Sanders was over 4 yards per carry till the 3rd quarter, and then finished above 4 yards per carry by the end of the game.

Pretty damn good game overall, with a rough 3rd quarter.

WRONG

We had 10 carries for 75 yards in drives that began in the fourth quarter, which is two drives. That’s both Gainwell and Sanders. (Doesn’t count a minus-1 Sanders run because it was the first play of the fourth quarter and we kicked a FG the next play and I’m counting that as part of the first three quarters for all intents and purposes).

We finished with 41 carries for 185 yards.

That leaves 31 carries for 110 yards, which is 3.5 yards per carry.

Yes, for the first three quarters we averaged 3.5 yards per carry. That would qualify as a large portion of the game. And that’s not very good.

Did we not score on every drive?

Minshew with 3 "dudes” and a couple "Bros” in his post game presser.  He’s exactly who we thought he was.

Entertaining and easy to like?

Apparently that's not effective.

And when clumping the 3 quarters together, you lose the story of how he ran in the first 2. Which I have brought up numerous times but you appear disinterested in actually looking at.

I keep a box score open during games. One think I pay attention to is the YPC for the RBs. Sanders was excellent through 1, still above 4 through the entire 1st half.

Its just that the 3rd quarter was so bad it brought the entire average down to 3.5

Eagles were down to one back (who was hobbled) and missing an interior lineman, who had been playing well.

"Well if you remove this quarter for some reason they only ran for 130+ yards!"

They didn't average 7 yards per carry, so obviously running was a waste of time.

Sound logic and definitely worth griping about.

It's amazing what people will complain about.

I would say Minshew’s 9.7 yards per attempt (and not counting a 21-yard DPI) was actually effective.

Yes... the entire package was effective.

@ManuManu I did this for you. here is the link to the play by play. https://www.espn.com/nfl/playbyplay/_/gameId/401326517

And here is what it shows.

1st drive

1. 5 yards

2. 9 yards

2nd drive

3. 2 yards

4. 1 yard

3rd drive

5. 4 yards

6. 7 yards

4th drive

7. 9 yards

8. 4 yards

9. 0 yards

Average through first half 4.5 yards per carry.

The 3rd quarter was so rough it brought his average down from 4.5 to 3.5 per carry. Which I commented on in this thread at that time.

And then he ended up finishing with 5 yards per carry.

Damn good game all except for the 3rd quarter.

The REAL story is not that he was just ok through 3 quarters and got his stats padded with a good run in the 4th. The REAL story is that he had a heck of a good game aside from a rough stretch in 1 quarter.

Its amazing that people can watch a game, completely miss how good a RB looks when we focus on the running game so much, and just continue to buy the BS that stupid philly talk radio has brainwashed you on. Then you even find a way to slant the stats to make it look like the BS is the truth.

Actually... the 3rd quarter was really good too, just in a different way.   13:50 TOP in 3rd quarter.

I swear mahomes every week now has an interception that hits his receiver in the hands and goes right to the defender.

You’re right. I looked at the game book. I was too focused on the third quarter when we failed to put them away because we ran too much.

The Eagles could run the ball when they needed to and that's what matters.  The marginal improvement in the running game is definitely not worth sticking with Hurts.

theres no way he goes from 4.5 yards to 3.5 yards and its good.

Lukcily they gained just enough yards for our co-MVP FG kicker to tack on a few points. The offense as a whole pretty much completely stagnated.

I think thats when Gainwell made a few plays which helped.

Playoffs= 70%

Non Playoffs= 75%

That’s what I meant. He made it *if* they make the playoffs. He needs another drive or two to guarantee he makes it regardless of what happens next.

We are so used to seeing gigantic holes with not only an elite OL, but a running QB to open things up even more for our RBs dating all the way back to the final Andy Reid years.

The run game felt claustrophobic as there were creases rather than freeways to run through. Worth noting how a RB with average vision still found those creases, and also created his own yards. This is what a run game looks like for most of the NFL. We have been lucky (when we have actually chosen to run the ball) over the years to have it much easier on the ground.

Moving forward Im ok with a backfield that looks something like Fournette, Howard, and Robinson in the draft. Maybe Gainwell still around as a passing down back.

Seriously … did he take the short bus to school?

I prefer his legitimate excitement and way of showing it to the lady yelling support the troops repeatedly (which I have no issues with).

This is why people are going to love or hate him.  He has that Koy Detmer/Jeff Garcia feel to him.

With that being said, Minshew, just like Hurts is best suited as a high end backup quarterback rather than starter in this league.  Minshew would be the perfect backup in Philly if we had a sure thing, unquestioned starter. He's a bad backup to have if we have questions at QB because he can do JUST enough to make people want him in there.

If we have to pick a bridge QB for 2022 and it's between Hurts and Minshew, I want Minshew because he can run Sirianni's offense as it's intended (this is HUGE in coach development) and he will get the most out of the WR/TE/RB by spreading the ball around.

I'm talking about ball control... they owned the 3rd quarter.  The down side was the lack of points.  13:50 TOP and only 3 points (second FG came right at the start of the 4th.)

First drive:
3rd and 1 - converted.
3rd and 10 - converted.
3rd and 10 - converted by bad penalty.
3rd and goal - not converted, lead to FG.

Second drive:
3rd and 4 - incomplete, followed by 4th and 4 - offsides.
3rd and 3 - 2 yards, followed by 4th and 1 - converted... barely.
3rd and 2 - not converted, lead to FG.

So, while the running game may have lost yards per carry, they still managed to remain in 3rd and manageable most of the time and kept possession of the ball.   That's why I deemed it 'good'.  For a running game to be 'effective' to me, it has to contribute to keeping the clock running and keeping the 3rd downs manageable.  On those 2 drives, they only had 2 3rd and long situations, and converted both.  The other 3rd down situations were all 5 or fewer yards... that's manageable to me.

Whatever Minshew gave in the passing game + todays run game > whatever Hurts gives in the passing game + past few games run game.

Thats what it boils down to

all this minshew talk is dribble at this point, siri says hurts is the guy, i see us winning one more game with hurts as the starter, agains the giants

I dont think anyone else would agree with you that a running game that lost yards was still good.

Jason Kelce in a walking boot after the game. Will have the bye week to get it healed up.

Less so if he gives Dr. Rogan a visit, who cured Rodgers of COVID in 3 days.

Not saying it never happens.  But, IMO, its not a trait anymore.

Yeah, this year was wishful thinking. More about limiting the number of years in the future.
