September 13, 20214 yr I criticize Hurts a lot...and will continue to do so...but to go pro-Hurts for a minute: everyone tries to compare Hurts to Russell Wilson. I don't really think that's the guy whose tape Hurts should be watching and aspiring towards, nor do I think it's the ideal best-case comparison. Drew Brees is the comparison I'd want to mold into. Athletic, scampered well, not tall, didn't have a great arm...but he mastered a rapid release (both between the ears and mechanically) with great accuracy. Destroyed the blitz with a combination of that release and his footwork in and out of the pocket and became one of the best passers in NFL history. Russell Wilson may be an elite QB, but his career has been an unusual oscillation between efficiency, backyard improvised plays with too much running, being a system QB in a low-volume passing scheme, and tossing lots of deep balls. He's been very scattered without a true identity as a high volume unstoppable passer. If you've got a shorter QB with athleticism, leadership, competitive fire, and a just-good-enough arm...Drew Brees is the guy you want as your aspirational goal.

September 13, 20214 yr Assuming the Meyer rumor comes true, you'd have Meyer, Chip Kelly, and Bobby Petrino that all were big names in college turn into massive failures in the pros in recent memory. Might be a long time before another college coach gets a chance to make that jump. I sure wouldn't do it. At least not straight to head coach.
September 13, 20214 yr And a noteworthy thing about Brees...he had a couple early years where he just heaved the ball and had large numbers of INTs and mistakes. We'd have turned on a QB in those years, but that was key in his development as a high-volume blue chip passer. That's why I think Winston might be so good in NO. He cut his teeth making those same gaffes in numbers in TB. Now with the right coaching and weapons, I could see him making a pretty impressive transition. I can forgive Hurts for mistakes in year 2. I just want to see him become a passer. 2 minutes ago, Mike030270 said: Has a HC ever just left after the first week of the regular season? There are so many people in this country that don’t have fresh fruits and vegetables available year round. Grocers don’t tend to open stores in walking distance in poorer neighborhoods. Even in rural communities. Go in a Dollar Store sometime and check out the food they have available. Maybe hand out fresh food instead of money. Just an idea.

No to a owner, top executive in an organization for celebrating a employee’s success in his first opportunity? How horrible. You can bet that game ball he gave Sirianni is going to be displayed proudly by the coach for decades to come. Must we hate the success Jeff has brought to this team since he has owned it because he tried for a repeat (like none of us would have done the same).

A younger fast-rising college HC, assuming they are otherwise up to the job, would probably be fine. The college HC's who have made a career of it recruiting and coaching 18-22 year olds just can't adapt. Managing professional egos and coaching kids are very different. Bring the later approach to the former and it's going to be a rough ride. The head coach of an NFL football team should be called a manager like in baseball.
September 13, 20214 yr I think Kelce's pull and 2nd level double block on a long Sanders run up the right actually exceeds Mailata's now highlight reel pancake in both degree of difficulty and beauty.
September 13, 20214 yr I never thought someone who do something more selfish than Bobby Petrino, but Urban Meyer did some awful things at both Florida and Ohio State.

Perhaps so, but I could still see a team wanting them to at least serve in a coordinator capacity for a time first.
September 13, 20214 yr IDK that I can see much behind that rumor about Meyer though. Most of us are old and have no concept of the years that have passed but the USC job is one for an up and comer. Not an established coach. Much like (sorry to all the fans in here) Texas...the programs are almost 20 years removed from relevance now. Unless USC throws the absolute moon at him (Jon Gruden style contract or Dumbo's contract with A&M), I can't see that being an attractive position. It wouldn't be like he's following greats like Spurrier or *puke* Tressel. He'd need at least 3 years to cement a roster/recruiting classes.

Well, there was an attempt by the trial bar to profit from it but the Oreo suits got legislated away just like gun manufacturers suits. The consistent labeling helps but only if you read it. But the real issue is probably sedentary jobs and sedentary everything else. We drive everywhere. Our entertainment is sedentary. We literally exercise to burn calories that in past times we would have burned putting food on the table.

September 14, 20214 yr Already done with the Eli and Peyton thing. It’s interesting to listen to them talk but they keep cutting away from the game.
September 14, 20214 yr There’s been rumors of usc and urban for a couple years now dating back to 2018 after usc had a bad season. They should made that move after the 2019 when most USC alumni wanted Helton out.
September 14, 20214 yr This sort of thing rarely bugs me but the Eagles got almost zero coverage on the national level for their play yesterday. Rookie head coach/1st year starter at QB win 32-6 on the road vs a HOF QB. But everything is just taking a dump on Rodgers but that’ll be a 180 when he’s 3-1 in three weeks
