Devonta Smith is just flatout better than Waddle and that's just all there is to say

Not sure that such an assertion can be made so matter of fact without some extra support.  Personally, I don't know which is 'better'.  They are different, but both are talented.

3 elite players, a future Hall of Famer, and a solid LG on that line. Oh, the persecution!

I guess there are nutty Wentz fanatics among Colts fans too.

Wentz didn't leave because of the OL and rash of injuries on offense every year, although those factors didn't help.

He left because the organization drafted another QB in the 2nd round and benched him in favor of that QB.  The organization refused to give any assurances after the season his job was secure, so his agent requested a trade to a team where his starting job (and contract) was more secure.

Good business on Wentz's part.

Yeah I don't think GB drops a game, but the NFL has been wild this year, it wouldn't shock me in the least if they did.

Lemme run the ESPN playoff simulator

GB almost "dropped" the game yesterday.

Nothing odd about that.  Happens every year.  NFL is based on parody and if a team throws out a clunker, they can lose any game... and if any team gets their act together they can beat any team that's not on their top game.

Actually I figured Wentz would be a bit better this season than he's been -- he's 19th in passing yards, 26th in comp%, but 10th in TD passes and a very good 23/6 TD/INT ratio.  8-12 might be a bit high for his overall performance; I'd say he's been 15-18 range.

Next season will likely be a good indicator of where his ceiling is.

I think the Eagles offense would be better than the Colts offense if we could swap Sanders for Taylor.

Taylor, not Wentz, is carrying that team.

Wentz is in that #8-12 range, good enough to win, not good enough to carry a team.

Which is what I predicted after the trade, he's basically reverted back to 2018-19 form, but he'll never be the shooting star of 2017 again.

Only thing Wentz is top 10 in is QB sneak.  As far as that, he's elite.

Don't think I've ever seen him not get a 1st down on a QB sneak.

I would also add the Saints (last night) really benefit from the fact that the Buccaneers lost their two top receivers midgame and then lost Leonard Fournette in the beginning of the third quarter. It is a much easier team to defend the Bucs when they are missing their top three wide receivers (with Antonio Brown also out) and their best running back.

There is a lot more that goes into that than just the WR.  I mean, JJAWful averages 4.0 more yards per reception than Smith.

In all seriousness though, Kyle Pitts averages 14.6 per catch with more catches than Devonta, would you trade for Pitts straight up ??

Van Jefferson averages 16.6, would you trade Devonta for him ??

Only if Pitts and Jefferson maintained those numbers with Hurts as QB.

Saints also beat the Bucs twice last year.   Simply stated, the Saints know how to beat the Bucs.  That sort of thing happens with division rivals as well.  The NFL often comes down to matchups...

An ELITEZZZZZ QBZZZZ CANZZZZ CARRYZZZZZ A TEAMZZZZZ!1!1!1!1!

If we somehow get into that 7th seed then right now we would play Dallas round 1. Knocking them off in their stadium is all I care about now.

Well let's break it down and see where he really ranks:

Inarguably better than Wentz: Rodgers, Brady, Mahomes -- There's no debate here at all. That's 3.

Likely better than Wentz -- Allen, Herbert, Stafford, Murray, Wilson -- I'd take these guys above him, but maybe someone can debate. 5 + 3 = 8 ahead.

Same category as Wentz -- Jones, Carr, Burrow, Lamar, Prescott -- 5 more. So at WORST I'd have him 14.

I guess people could try and argue Baker, Tannehill, Jimmy G and Cousins...but c'mon.

8-14 is the range to me.

15-18 is the rank for his play this season -- not where he ranks as a QB overall.

His play this season with the Colts has not been top 10 in the NFL; he's a middle of the pack QB this season.

If the guy is nervous about beating out Jalen Hurts then I don't want him on my team anyway.

If......that's the case.

Give Smith 30 more targets.  Let him play in an NFL passing offense

Im confident he could gain another 150 yards and equal Waddles numbers.

Aside from that, Waddle runs really fast.  Thats it, thats why the True Fans say our guy isnt as good.

It's not a question about beating out Hurts; I don't think any rational person would believe Hurts would win a starting job over Wentz in training camp.

It's about the head coach (Doug) saying after the season he wants to move forward with Hurts (reported by Aikman and corroborated by Brett Favre), and the GM not giving an assurance on the security of his contract.

It does. And yeah if GB drops one game and Dallas wins out, Dallas is #1

But if Dallas were to lose their week 18 game ...........

At some point gotta have someone out there that can make a play. Ronald jones and gronk at this stage of his career aren’t going to be enough. Brady always has issues with New Orleans. The playoff game they really benefitted from Brees turning it over as much as he did.

None of this proves that Smith is better than Waddle.   It's not exactly like the Dolphins are a juggernaut offense or anything.

I'm not arguing that Waddle is better than Smith, but I certainly don't think that there's a definitive case to be made one way or the other yet

Imagine you're Wentz, you lift the team into the playoffs in 2019. With hot garbage at WR. Then in the offseason, instead of drafting you help, they draft a guy to ostensibly replace you. The head coach seems to like him more. They re-sign Alshon, and even after Wentz showed chemistry with Fulgham, they bench the guy for Alshon who has been nothing but a snake to Wentz. Then, after the season, as you note, they want to move forward with Hurts. Why the hell would anybody want to stay in that situation?

A reasonable post with Wentz as the topic? A rarity indeed, good job.
