It evens out for a player over the course of multiple games, but at the individual game level the sampl;e size is too small to promote any data smoothing.

But it did even out this game. Goedert snatched an INT out of a DBs hands.

This isn’t wrong and it’s fair to criticize, but this is a middle of the road team who loses to teams they’re supposed to lose to and beats teams that they are supposed to beat (outside of the NYG game). That’s the definition of average and that’s what they are. Given expectations coming into the season, they’ve outperformed. The biggest goals that I had coming into this year was finding out if Hurts can be the guy moving forward and who Sirianni is as a coach. I’m still not sold on Hurts, but I think he’s going to end up buying himself another season as starter because he just hasn’t been bad enough to move on from. And that’s somewhat the scary part because that’s how you end up in the doldrums.

But after a rocky start, I’ve been happy with Sirianni the past two months. He’s shown that he can adjust and design an offense that can remain competitive and win games. And the players play for him. That counts a lot. He doesn’t have a franchise QB yet, but if he eventually gets one they will be a contender.

This off-season will be interesting as far as what they do with the picks. Part of me wants them to use them to help solidify the defense, but if you don’t have a franchise QB in this league you’ll never have a chance to go all the way. That’s the challenging decision that they’re going to have to figure out.

Your bolded sentences are why I'm all in for trading down in the 1st Round to get an additional 1st round pick in 2023.  If they do use the picks this year to fill the holes, then they are indeed going to be "in the doldrums" with their own 1st Round picks going forward, so the only way they can find themselves high enough in the Draft to be in a position to draft a Franchise QB is by using some other team's pick.

I think that’s extremely scary cause it’s how you get stuck in purgatory if hurts doesn’t take the next steps in 2022. I think they still attempt to get someone like Wilson or watson and ultimately fail. And it means he’s likely back as the starter next year. That said you have to go into 2022 you should hope he’s great because if he’s about the same this year in 2022 and then they are likely middle of the pack. So now you’re picking in the middle of the first round. It makes it much more difficult to get your franchise QB and move up to get it.

Like, the next Sam Darnold, or Josh Rosen or Haskins, or Daniel Jones.   Throw out what you have in order to hand the keys to one of those guys?    There are a lot of QBs drafted in the first round recently who have not done particularly well.

The Eagles are 7-7,  up from 4-11-1 last year.   I don't think that the defense is much better.   The offense, with Hurts, is better.  And the Eagles don't have to spend $30 M a year for the next few years.  and the Eagles are getting a first rounder.

Stay the course,  spend mostly on defense, the defense improves.  Add some run parts like the Ravens have,  a FB,  a blocking TE.   The Eagles might be able, at some time, to sign a free agent QB, instead of having to trade for one.
Next year, maybe a Free Agent Wide Receiver, who meets the needs the Eagles might have.  Look for one of those great RBs,  big and fast.   If there's a great one,  could use and early pick,  but a sufficient one could be found on day 3, probably.

Why? He's still young.  Great athletes at positions go to college and get switched there.  Even heading into the pros. Matt Jones from QB in college to 1dt round WR in the NFL. Greg Ward and Tyree Jackson.

Put it this way, if Reagor got recruited to Alabama they would have out him at CB rather than WR.

QB’s, the good ones know every position on the football field, and how each position is supposed to be played.
Good CB’s typically have higher football IQ’s than WR’s, the WR knows his route, the CB has to figure out the route through studying a multitude of formations, mannerisms, etc.., of the few WR’s they have to play against each week.  Reagor has never displayed these kind of football smarts, and his lack of skill running routes only confirms what everyone else already knows.  DeVonta Smith on the other hand would probably be a very good corner, but he’d have to gain 30lbs.

Corners don’t need to be Safety or MLB level smart, but a good example tonight was the only player on defense who read the WFT 3 and 1 mess of a pass play that got them 29 yards, was Slay, and he was late because it’s not his job to figure that out.  Since this organization devalues LB’ers, and Safeties, the highest IQ players on defense,  that and a ton more plays this year fall on Howie Roseman’s shoulders, no one else’s.
Another example, when Malcolm Jenkins was here except for 2014 his first season, (not the leader yet) the Eagles gave up no more than 20 points per game, in his final season ‘19 when he’d lost a step, they gave up 22.  In 2020, it was 26 w/o him.
Kansas City, switched S Dan Sorensam to Juan Thornhill, a vocal leader who like the Honey Badger, is football smart, and their defense has improved to the point of it being a strength.
It’s not their play in particular, and a LB can do it, but good ones get everyone into position and hold everyone accountable.
Just some reasons why Howie has to draft Kyle Hamilton if the opportunity presents itself.

Or like the next Mahomes, Watson, Herbert,  Allen, Burrow. I can cherry pick good QB’s too. Draft picks fail, so do QB’s. Doesn’t mean you play chicken with pulling the trigger on someone you think can be an upgrade. If the team has Hurts as a higher graded player than potential draft QB’s, fine. If they think they can upgrade, do it.

I really hate the argument well there’s been some busts so we shouldn’t do it. No crap it’s not a perfect Fing science. if all 32 teams had a perfect science on how to do it then all 32 teams would have a franchise quarterback. There’s a risk when you do it just like any player you select. Just like there was a risk when they went and got Carson Wentz. and if they didn’t do that they don’t have their only Super Bowl. If there is a quarterback that they love, you don’t dick around. if you think he’s a potential franchise changer and better than what you already have then go get him. Now they don’t think that don’t force the issue.

also hurts is eligible for a contract extension after the 2022 season. So if they think he’s the future and he’s the guy to lead them forward they aren’t  going to wait to give him a contract after the fourth year like Dallas did with Dak. he doesn’t have a 5th option. So the cheap quarterback is cheap for 2022. Then rent is due.

If you want to make a good troll post at least suggest Reagor at S because him converting to CB would be a beyond failure.

I love smith but that’s asking a lot. Jefferson is a top 5 WR in the league. He might eventually be the best with how his career has started.

And we could have had both......

Watching the replay of the game on NFL network......Eagles defense is ranked tied for 9th overall?  Kinda surprised by that.

I would really like the Eagles to look into Atlanta usage of Cordarrelle Patterson. Not that he is Cordarrelle Patterson but at least get some ideas and try to get creative to get him going and maybe a light bulb switches on

this is the benefit of facing siemian, Gilbert, Zach Wilson, Daniel jones, Matt Ryan (who’s not been good this year), Sam darnold, bridgewater and Jared Goff. They were solid against Jimmy G. But bad against Dak, mahomes, herbert, carr, brady.

One of the reasons why I want that Dallas game in week 18 to have a lot of meaning for both teams because I want to see how far the eagles have come since week 3 where Dallas throttle them. If the Eagles are able to play it close and even win that game it tells me they’ve come along way. If they get absolutely obliterated again that’s an issue.

Haters gonna hate.

Hurts has the game of his career against a legitimate defense, despite Goeddert dropping two passes and Ward a TD pass. Made a couple mistakes but otherwise the game of his career.

20/26 with three drops for 296, but it's not good enough. Bring on Mishew!

Team spots WFT 10 points then outscores them 27-7 the rest of the way.

Guess they should have won by 30.

I certainly think those Goedert drops left points out on the field. 1 passing TD, 2 run TDs and overall he looked after the ball well. The INT was a freak play too.

Hurts is a good choice, and a cheap choice, for QB for 2022 and 2023.

You are not going into 2023 without giving him an extension or moving on from him. He is eligible for an extension at the end of 2022. If you think he’s the future you are not going into 2023 without giving him extension. And you’re not giving him another year in 2023 if you arent sure at that point. you are moving on. Also when you give him that extension he is no longer cheap which would be at the end of 2022 season he’s eligible. So really you have 2022 to make a decision and 2022 is the last year he’s going to qualify as "cheap” if he’s extended (as they aren’t going into the last year of his contract without making a decision on his future). So really he has one more year of realistically using his cheap rookie contract and then you got to pay him or move on.

The point is they are not going to go into the last year of his contract without knowing if he’s the guy going forward or not. So that means if he’s the guy they’re paying him as soon he’s eligible (they’ve shown that with the wentz contract and mcnabb) and he’s not cheap anymore. If he’s not the guy, you better believe they’re gonna go out and get a quarterback so doesn’t matter with him in 2023 being cheap.

The eagles aren’t going to give him an additional two years just to answer the question if he’s the future of the organization. Their answer should be pretty clear after he would have 38 starts under his belt. At that point it’s pay him or you’re moving on

Cause i don’t see teams like the Texans or lions if they are picking 1 and 2 trading out to do it nor us paying the price it’d cost to move up that high.

But a better option is NOT to gamble on a first round QB.

The Eagles take 3 first round picks and spend them on defense.   Defense is better.   Eagles have good defense.    The Eagles have a very good run blocking oline, and maybe the Eagles spend to make sure that stays true.   Eagles have very good run blocking.   Eagles could use an additional power back.   Eagles have good running backs.  Eagles have a top QB at running.  That should be good enough to get to the playoffs.   The Eagles won the Super Bowl with a backup, so Any Given Sunday.

At any time,  the Eagles could get out of these imaginary "we can't get the next Baker Mayfield" doldrums just by signing a free agent QB.   With a good defense,  with a very good run blocking oline, and a new, good power back to add to what the Eagles have  (Keep Howard) a free agent QB might want to play for the Eagles.   If Jalen Hurts is taking the Eagles to the playoffs,  the other QB might think it an easy job.   Each of Wilson, Rodgers and Watson are said to be going out.  The Eagles might just keep an eye out to see if they become free agents, where the Eagles don't have to spend anything to get them.   That is, if Hurts isn't what they want.  It's not hard to sign a free agent QB if you're a playoff team.    The Eagles could very well be a popular destination at some time in the future.   The Raiders are paying Mariota very little.   You have a great running back (trade for one?) you should be able to get to the playoffs with Hurts.

Make the team not very reliant on the QB, or the QBs arm.  This particular QB has good legs and a good run blocking offensive line.
