Yaieks! Mexican food out West, is infinitely better than anything on the East coast. After a few good Carne Asada burritos, in California or Arizona,.. Taco Bell is equivalent to 49 cents burger at a truck stand. Also, Most people in Philadelphia...never really tried a great cheesesteak..other than eating at Italian market. I know because I used to own a Pizza store for years. Very few places buy a sliced steak meat, the way it was originally made, because it is just too expensive. Most pizza stores buy cheaper meat for cheesesteaks. People eat and just do not know the difference. There are a few gourmet places that advertise, but you really need to find them.

I don't eat fast food often and prefer to avoid chains, especially places like Subway.  Surprised no one has mentioned Primo Hoagies yet.  For a chain fast food place, they have some darn good sandwiches.

As far as Cheesteaks go.  I wouldn't even bother with one from Jersey Mikes, Subway's or any other national chain.  I just like Mike's for their Italian Hoagie.  

They call it subs, because of NY.  Jersey Mikes started in Mount Pleasant a shore town of NY losers.  It has nothing to do with the country, but their roots.

The only way to get good Mexican on the East Coast is to find the places owned and operated by Mexicans.  They exist, but they are not chains.

I have one pizza shop that makes great cheese steaks just had one for the eagles game Sunday. They use real sliced steak and amaroso rolls ( go to hell of you don't like amaroso rolls lol) 

It was mostly the cold subs I was speaking of when talking about not having any real delis around here.

No need to mention them.  Living in the Philly burbs there's a mom and pop shop all over the place.  No need for a chain.  I prefer the smaller shops, and normally, you get to be known by the owners/operators.  It's just being part of the neighborhood.

I'd rather them call it that then sub's.  

I'm spoiled.  If they use the wrong name, I don't trust that they know how to make it, so I avoid ALL "Philly" cheesesteaks, "Subs", "Heroes", etc.   Frankly, there's no reason to buy any of that in a different part of the country, because I have so many options here.  And when I visit other places, I want to try their local cuisine, not their version of mine.  Nothing to be gained there.

Unfortunately East coast Mexican restaurants do not have access to fresh avocados and tomatoes that are grown locally , in California where i live, and delivered right from the field to most local restaurants. They have the frozen/ delivered stuff. I tried, and it is not the same. I am sure if you find a good Mexican restaurant on the East coast..you will be delighted over what you had previously.

I frequent Arizona.  So, I'm familiar with the local Mexican fare.  It is better there, no doubt, but I can still find some very good stuff here... the local tomatoes here will rival anything California has to offer, but its limited by season.  Can't argue about the avocados though... but my understanding is that avocados don't actually ever ripen on the tree.  Not sure if that's true.
