I went to college at Drexel.  I can't go over to the UPenn campus.  It just turns my stomach.

I'm a Delco guy.

La Spada's in Parkside and Ridley is the classic for hoagies.
Leo's Steaks and Hoagies in Folcroft is great.
If you are looking for more of that 'high pressure' ordering experience, try Jim's in Springfield.   (same as the place on South Street)
Phil and Jim's in Parkside is also a nice one.

And then there's Cocco's Pizza in Primos.  Order from there and you get 10% off at the Gelateria next door (owned by the same family).

I'm not up on the Main Line.  My wife went to Eastern, but we didn't eat there very much... too expensive for a couple of college kids back then.

You lost me with Jim's on South Street. Execrable. The whole area stinks of burnt grease.

Hard pass on a food truck cheesesteak

I can understand that... but I had a truck on Drexel's campus that was our go to.   He'd cook us a cheesesteak as we were walking back from class a lot of times.   And on the occasion that we didn't have the cash at the time, he'd comp us.  Nice guy.  Pete's Little Lunch Box.  He and his mom ran it.  Lovely people.

That's why I don't go to South Street.  :P

My suggestion remains, avoid the chains.  Search out local specialties.   Ask locals what is unique to the area and where to get it.  If you like precooked and warmed up or deep fried then continue to go to the chains.  Best fried chicken sandwich I ever had, I probably couldn’t find the place again. Little fried chicken joint northeast of Memphis, not on the freeway. Had a vinegar based slaw on it that was to die for.

This really is the best way to go about it.  I love the mom and pop's.

About to cancel NFL Game Pass. No All-22 and no word on when if ever it comes back. Without that it's a rip-off.

Back then I wouldn't eat off of a food truck. Now it's the in thing and there are some great restaurants that are closing up their restaurants or at least expanding into running food trucks, especially now.

Not being stuck in one spot and paying outrageous rent on brick and mortar is the way to go now.

Yaieks! Mexican food out West, is infinitely better than anything on the East coast. After a few good Carne Asada burritos, in California or Arizona,.. Taco Bell is equivalent to 49 cents burger at a truck stand. Also, Most people in Philadelphia...never really tried a great cheesesteak..other than eating at Italian market. I know because I used to own a Pizza store for years. Very few places buy a sliced steak meat, the way it was originally made, because it is just too expensive. Most pizza stores buy cheaper meat for cheesesteaks. People eat and just do not know the difference. There are a few gourmet places that advertise, but you really need to find them.

California puts freaking bean sprouts on "Mexican” food.  Birthplace of Del Taco, which makes freaking Taco Bell look good.  Best Mexican food is in Texas and New Mexico but areas of the east coast aren’t bad.

That’s Philly.  Not in NC.

I totally get that.

On a side note... my family and I went down to Washington DC pre-Covid back in 2019.   Stayed about a block or so off the Mall.  We went to check out the monuments at night all lit up... which is lovely by the way, for anyone that's never done it.

Anyway, as we are walking back to the hotel, my son and I are about 6 feet ahead of my wife (no one is on the street), and I hear my wife scream.  I turn back and she's standing there panicked.   I come back and ask what happened... she says, in a breathy panicked voice... "a rat just ran over my foot as I was walking".   "Really?!"  I didn't see anything.  So, we walk back together the rest of the way, all together and we see about a DOZEN in the next block... rats running from under the food trucks parked along the street, running to the construction site next to us, or to the trash cans along the street.   (We were only walking along here for about 2 blocks.). Since then, I haven't looked at the trucks the same way again.

Cali is all about the fish tacos

Just curious...I posted an article with sources that seem to back up the fact that obesity is a common underlying problem in Covid cases and deaths.  Here's the link again.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-obesity/obesity-a-driving-factor-in-covid-19-deaths-global-report-finds-idUSKBN2AW1X0

What exactly is the mis-information?  I'm not being a smart ass, I'm trying to figure out what's wrong about the numbers I shared?

What you said was "90% of deaths worldwide having obesity as a comorbidity",,,  what the article said was that 90% occurred in countries with a high obesity rate... those are two different things...  but, there's no doubt that those numbers suggest that obesity has exacerbated the problem...

I might have to cancel mine too. That’s what i used it for. That’s ridiculous.

More Mailata madness.  Subtle, but look at him shove the guy with one arm.

That's the NFL for you.   Find a good thing and take it away... then make you pay for it through the nose.

They don't even need a left guard!

Dude is a freak of a mountain of a man.    That's crazy functional strength.

How many years does Mailata buy Howie?

He had at least 2-3 years without Mailata. He didn't need him to buy anymore time. Now add in the rest of these guys getting off to a great start. Buckle up buckaroo Howie will not be going anywhere for a long long time.

Provolone. Otherwise it's inedible...unless you like Taco Bell, Chipotle, Wendy's McDonalds, Arby's, Chik-fil-a(sp?), Popeye's, etc. in which case you can hoover anything.

The nice thing about not being from Philly is I can experiment with my cheesesteak. I have started using my griddle on my grill.  I usually use provolone but I used a Havarti recently with excellent results.  There is a local dairy that makes a jalapeño aged cheddar. That worked out real nice.  I use thin sliced ribeye for my meat. (I have a professional meat slicer that my mother gifted me years ago.  What a great gift).  My problem is finding good bread.  Just not readily available in the mid state.

I appreciate that... but I just ask that you not call it a 'cheesesteak'.

Good bread is the secret.  Soft inside... crusty on the outside.  Without that it's just a sandwich.

Be like those bums on YouTube that put arugula on cheese steaks 🤮

NFL hinted the first week or two that it might not be up until Wednesday. Patiently waiting.

Speaking of bread, who else here likes Liscio's rolls over Amaroso's?

Does Sarcone's ship? Sadly, I don't think so.

I didn’t call it a Philly cheesesteak, call it a steak sandwich then. I can say I have never had a steak sandwich with Cheeswhiz just like I have  never eaten canned cheese and I doubt I ever will.

I would kill for good bread.  Like a Po’boy. You need New Orleans French bread.  If anyone knows a good bakery in the mid state, let me know.

By the way, I ask that you don’t call anything with chicken or shrimp a fajita. That’s a made up marketing thing.  Tex Mex will make it out of Texas when I can order a Taco al Carbon.

The trouble with all these breads is that the best ones don't use the preservatives... and they have a great flavor for about 6 hours... after that it changes to being less delicious.   Getting one of these breads from the bakery within hours of being baked and made into a sandwich immediately is the ultimate.
