I’ve obviously got my own opinions about what’s best for the team, but I want to apologize for upsetting some of you earlier. I don’t dislike him personally, but I feel he is holding the team back. It doesn’t make what I said right, though and I won’t be saying something like that again.  I'm glad many of you can celebrate and wish you all well.

Eagles flexed to Saturday night.

Because we are currently #7.

It's likely that the Rams beat the Niners next week.  We end up #6 and Bucs end up #3.

Backwards

The Niners have beaten the Rams five straight times.

Howie did have a heck of an offseason, a few misses, but a lot of hits.

The draft of course, Smith (and Miami's 1st rd pick), Dickerson, Williams, Gainwell, and Jackson, Johnson, and McPhearson were key ST players.

Stoll (UDFA), Siposs P (UDFA), Chachere (SFA), Jackson (SFA), Scott (T-6th rd)

FAs:  Nelson, Harris, Wilson, Kerrigan

But also last year's "unknown soldiers", the waiver wire/street pickups who took a year to emerge:

Edwards (UDFA), Herbig (UDFA), Epps (SFA), Toth (UDFA), Opeta (UDFA).

Why they move our game to Saturday night? I guess cause Dallas can still get the 2 seed possibly?

That would require the Eagles beating the Cowboys when the Eagles will likely rest their starters and Dallas probably won't. Even if the Niners lose, the Eagles probably do too and remain at 7.

Not if the Saints win.

Most likely scenario is the Rams and Saints win.  That's why it's 68%.

I’m wondering if it’s Jimmy g or trey lance starting for SF. I think if it’s lance it’s a much tougher task for the niners.

Saturday night football

Excited to see us bench all our guys in another prime time game!

Limited options.  FOX isn't letting go of Rams/Niners.

Wait, the Niners didn't clinch yet?

If Niners lose and Saints win, Niners are out

Nope.  They need to win or Saints to lose.

That is very dumb considering that game is meaningless now and both teams will likely be resting players

Probably smart on their part. Saints-falcons and rams-niners are the only two nfc games with potential playoff berths on the line.

Afc is all over the place in terms of berths and seeding 1-7

I hope the Eagles rest their starters again and Joe Judge flips out about it.  Maybe the NFL is trying to guilt us into playing our starters this year by moving it to prime time after last year.  No matter what, we should rest our key starters.

Would be so gross, that team is unwatchable.

I may be in the minority , but I want the eagles to play everyone that isn't hurt. I believe long-term success means preparing and playing every game.

No. So if the eagles win and the niners and saints both finish at 9-8 then the tiebreaker comes down to conference record where saints win by being 7-5 and niners 6-6. Meanwhile if it’s a three way tie at 9-8 between eagles, niners and saints then the eagles and saints make it as their conference records would be 7-5 and SF would be just 6-6.

Dallas can still get the 2 seed. That does matter.

Random thoughts…

* The past three first halves have been excruciating to watch. What a disappointing trend.

* Sirianni’s 4th down choices are really inconsistent. It seems like he follows his gut a little bit rather than the guy in the headset. While his first fourth down failed, in the end his aggressiveness was the difference. We had two fourth-down TDs. Instead of kicking FGs, it led to 14 points instead of nine.

* I was shocked to see the OL and run game struggle so much today. Maybe it helped Washington that it’s defense faced us recently. Or maybe it was as simple as they whipped us up front. I thought Mailata struggled (for him anyway), Dickerson struggled and Lane had a few hiccups. Dickerson was on the ground way too much.

* Hurts was fine. He had some frustrating misses to Smith in the end zone and Watkins on the LB. The protection wasn’t as good as normal, and I thought he handled it well.

* Heiniecke (however it’s spelled) was feisty today. He made two big-time throws on third down — one to Sims and the second to Seals-Jones.

* We didn’t tackle well, and we’re incredibly slow and unathletic up the middle on the second and third levels. Edwards might be the Mike next year, so we’ll have to make due, but Harris and McLeod (today’s pick notwithstanding) just don’t have enough speed to close gaps and voids.

* Sweat was really good today, and is a fine No. 2 DE. Heinecke’s legs saved him from more sacks as Williams, Barnett and I think Hargrave all at different times had a decent shot at a sack.

* Good for the Eagles for making the playoffs. No one is fooled into thinking we’re going to make a deep run, but having a rookie HC lead the team to the playoffs has to build some real credibility in the locker room. He has some kinks to work out, but he looks like a good hire.

I said weeks ago that this OL is still climbing the learning curve, Mailata and Dickerson are raw, one in his 3rd season of professional football, the other coming off a December ACL who played center the last few years in college, learning LG. Herbig has done a nice job filling in, but he's a dropoff from Driscoll who's a big dropoff from Brooks. They faced a physical DL and struggled all day. Right now they're better at run blocking than pass blocking. Doesn't mean that will be the norm, but Stoutland's work isn't finished with this group. And Howie will add OL depth, maybe not the first two rounds, but enough to ensure competition in camp.

Edwards is physically limited but tough and really smart - but if you're going to keep him on the field on passing downs, you're better off blitzing him through the A gaps, (a Zimmer speciality, one of Gannon's mentors) than dropping him in coverage. Avery is fine in a part-time role as SLB on run downs and 3-4 OLB, but he's not a 3 down SLB in the 4-3. Singleton is a try hard guy who makes lot's of tackles past the LOS and has tight hips. Taylor and at least one draft pick will push these guys next year.

Absolutely need more speed at safety, what stands out is our safeties are smart, in the right place but always a step behind.

Faster LBs and safeties will make this DL look much better as QBs see tighter windows and hesitate, and those 10-15 yard dump offs for 1st downs become 5 yard dump offs for 3 and 6 or 4th and 4.

I could see Sirianni split the difference and have guys play a half and let the backups play the second half.
