This would be an interesting poll. I honestly wouldn't trade Hurts for Wentz even if the Colts add a second. At this point, I think both QBs are decent, not great, but Hurts doesn't make the dumb mistakes and has a higher ceiling. Wentz is what he is now.

I would very much disagree that Hurts has a higher ceiling than Wentz.

But Hurts at 1ish mil a year > Wentz at 32.5 mil a year.

The Bears, Jets, and SF just used 1st round picks on QBs... They would not switch to Hurts. No GM or HC with half a brain would currently take Hurts over Fields, Wilson, or Lance. Not a chance in hell.

You mean like the vast majority posts in this Blog over the past 10+ years?  Might as well shut the thread down.

Playing crap teams helps but 7-2 is still an accomplishment considering we got a 1st year coach and average QB.

Hurts was amazing on this drive.  That 3rd down scramble and throw to Greg Ward for a first down on 3rd and long was incredible.  Then on that same drive he has able to get that pitch back to Scott off even as he is falling down on 4th down to get the TD.

I missed this but apparently he didn't even hear the play call and basically had to call the play himself on that 3rd and 14th.  The kid is just exploding with that "it" factor that the great ones need to have.

"We kind of operated a little faster in and out of the huddle, especially going into third downs because you can expect a whole bunch of different looks. What actually happened on that play is that I didn’t get the play. I didn’t get the play. I thought I heard what he said, but kind of had to pull one out of my hat. G Ward made a hell of a play on the scramble drill, adjusting to catch the ball.”

If we are sticking with Hurts, we'll need more youth and durability at the RB position.

I see the logic and we have the picks, but too many rookies for me - the Howard replacement, sure. I’d roll with Boston Scott on the vet minimum in ‘22 as the 4th back and then use a day 2 pick to replace Miles in ‘23.

I keep loving the drafts with 5 defensive players in the first 5 picks. And no matter how much the defense needs that infusion of youth and talent, I realize that if we want to take a step forward on defense, we cant actually start 5 rookies (assuming they even all panned out).

I might have to start mixing a WR, or an earlier RB in to my mocks.

Some of the defensive talent is going to have to come through free agency.

What are you talking about? These are the EXACT teams who might look to fix their mistake with a young QB.

I think the 49ers are stuck, though, because they already traded away 2022 assets for Lance.

They would be smart to explore a Miles Sanders trade.  I'm just not sure how much they will be able to get for him entering the final year of his deal.  I thought he might be traded at the deadline but then he got injured and it erased that possibility.  I think it would be a really wise move to target a RB in the 2nd or 3rd round whether they trade Sanders or not.  Hopefully Gainwell satisfies Roseman's thirst for a tiny swiss army knife RB and they draft a more proper RB like Sanders or Howard.

Ok… you really think these teams would take Hurts straight up for their rookie QB?

There’s actually a decent FA market if the eagles choose to go that route. the value might be there as you don’t have to break the bank at RB in FA if the eagles don’t choose to bring back Howard. Outside of fournette who’s the big RB FA, you have James Connor, chase Edmonds, marlon Mack, Darrel Williams and Sony Michel.

Their limited cap space should be spent elsewhere than a FA RB.  They are all used cars.  I think draft is always the way to go and drafting RBs is something this organization under Lurie has had a pretty solid track record with.

A 100% healthy Wentz in his prime is a near-elite level NFL QB.  Unfortunately he hasn't done that in several years and the injuries don't help either.

Hurts has always been a "scrambling QB" so his "passing game level" was raw for a rookie QB and slightly better this year.  If he can become an "above average" passer as the game begins to "slow down for him" with experience, combined with his evasiveness behind the pocket and running the ball...plus his leadership skills, he has top 10 NFL QB potential.

You don't need a canon arm to be a great passer in the NFL.  DeShawn Watson (which half the board is ready to sell the franchise for) has a weaker (or similar) arm strength.  Joe Montana (although fine for his era) would have been considered "average or below average arm strength" in the current era and he's in the Hall of Fame.

i kind of think someone like marlon Mack isn’t going to get all that much anyway. He rarely plays for the colts and likely gets a 1 year prove it deal. Might be low risk high reward the second year removed from that Achilles.

Why would we get rid of a RB that's likely better than most those guys?  You guys want to let a near pro-bowl level RB go (when healthy) so we spend slightly less on a RB like Michel?  No thanks.

Letting Sanders walk or trade is playing with fire.  With the way these RB's get banged up, we could easily fall back into the Smallwood days of RB's.  And what will that do for this new offensive scheme?

The problems with Wentz are not the damage to his body from the neck down, but rather the damage to his body above the neck.

I would argue it's both, but you raise an interesting point. This season he is in a perfect situation - Great O-Line, MVP running back, his hand picked genius playcaller/HC, no Foles/Hurts looking over his shoulder.

Yet, he is nowhere near his potential that we saw in 2017, it's to the stage where the Colts had to take the ball out of his hands and go to a run dominant attack.

I’ve been going with multiple defensive lineman as they can be used in the rotation/sub packages (estate planning for Fletch, BG - and we will have vacancies after launching Barnett/Kerrigan into space) . I like Burks a lot as an early offensive option based on the kind of throws Swag makes - contested, varying accuracy, bubbles. In terms of free agency - I keep landing on safety, as they aren’t prohibitively expensive but plugging a rookie right-in is really dicey for a team that wants to compete.

What?!?!?!? No!!! It would cost them a 1st round pick. Their guys aren’t NFL QB’s. They’re worthless to me. I’m sure someone would give them a 5th or 6th, though.
