I hope this doesn't sway Mara away from sticking with that clown, Joe Judge.

He didn't write the letter.  I am sure his agent wrote it for him for a specific reason  in order to document the complaint against the team. I mean what did the NFL do to fix the turf at the Vet? I don't think the NFL can do anything.

WFT 2.0 thinks WFT 1.0 was an a-hole too.

Agree.

This is a play to highlight what he's improving in... not the 3rd and 14 that was bandied about yesterday by ESP and his disciples.   This is good pocket discipline... I'll even give a little extra props on that throw... was all arm, as he couldn't really step into it.

Pretty cool right? No matter where you stand with the kid, it’s encouraging to see tangible and discernible improvement from him.

"my first reaction was to help....however I displayed a calm composure"

That reminds me of a line in The Gods Must Be Crazy:  The guy giving a girl a ride says "That was very sweet of me".

Looking back at teams that have had 3 first rounders:

Giants, 2019:

6 - Daniel Jones

17 - Dexter Lawrence

30 - Deandre Baker

Raiders, also 2019:

4 - Clelin Ferrel

24 - Josh Jacobs

27 - Jonathan Abram

Brown, 2017:

1 - Myles Garrett

25 - Jabril Peppers

29 - David Njoku

Vikings in 2013:

23 - Sharrif Floyd

25 - Xavier Rhodes

29 - Cordarelle Patterson

Rams, 2001:

12 - Damione Lewis

20 - Adam Archuleta

29 - Ryan Pickett

Jets, 2000:

12 - Shaun Ellis

13 - John Abraham

18 - Chad Pennington

It seems to me difficult to hit on all 3 picks. This really makes me want to trade one of them for a future first if we can. It also seems there's been greater success in selecting defensive players, which bodes well for us. The Giants and Raiders really screwed up, the Browns did well in 2017 (then blew it later by trading Peppers for Beckham), and the Jets 2000 draft I thought was excellent.

That has always been my hope.  I was not a believer in him when he was drafted.  I thought he was a 3rd round prospect.  But he gets to prove what he is.  He still seems to leave a lot on the field in terms of missed reads or late throws.  Against better competition, he'll have fewer opportunities like that and will need to capitalize on them more frequently.

I want to see more first half of the Denver game Hurts, and less of the free wheeling running around, and I want to see even fewer and fewer designed QB runs.  (Those fall on Siranni though... he called a QB draw on 2nd and 6 at mid-field last week.... gross play call.).

Yup. We're not going 3 for 3. I'm hoping for 2 for 3, which still sets us well for long-term success.

Trading down is the right call. Use the premium assets to get more bites at the apple.

As an aside I was looking at the Freddie Mitchell draft (2002?) and like 28 of the top 64 picks became pro-bowlers - that’s an amazing hit rate.

I have been saying for weeks we should trade one of them for another 1st + in 2023 if we can.  That way we will be in position if the next great QB becomes available in that draft.  Because this draft doesn't have that guy.

Let's say we do this. With our two remaining picks, what positions do you target? DL/LB/CB? Probably dependent on who's on the board when we pick I suppose.

EDGE & CB is the right answer.

  • Premium positions that are hard to find
  • Most value from a contract perspective
  • We have big needs at both spots
  • The 1st round will have lots of guys at each spot. 5 EDGEs may go in the top 12. There are at least 5 CBs that could go top 25. We could EDGE/CB and legitimately have it be BPA.

Use the other 1st rounder to trade down and attack, S, LB, OG, WR, etc.

Agreed.  Hitting on 3 first round picks in a row is always tough.  To do so in 1 draft is nearly impossible.

For all we know he could have been shaken by the incident, which I know I would have been if a railing broke and bunch of people spilled out near me, and his agent/PR person suggested that writing a letter to WFT would help make sure this wouldn't happen again, so he signed off on it.

I don't think the letter is bad at all. I also don't think it is greatly written either and agree that we the people should have never seen it. It would have been fine if a letter went out and we knew that he sent a letter, but the contents never needed to be seen.

His PR/Agent did him wrong IMHO.

They can't be so foolish as to pigeon hole themselves on a position.  They really need to take the best defender on the board.  They can use help at EVERY position on defense.  There's not a spot where you could say... a rookie can't step in and play here.

In terms of trading down:

- Only trade down with the top pick if you can stay in the 1st rd + 2023 1st

- The middle pick will most likely net you a 2022 2nd + a 2023 1st

- The lowest pick will be a hard sell for a 2023 1st, unless a QB falls that a team wants to trade up for.

This is my only problem with it.  Making it public doesn't put any more pressure on the Washingteam or NFL.  That part is grandstanding (if you'll forgive the pun).

Um, your years are screwy, but we get your point. We're in 2022 now, friend.

Yes agree, I would hope the team wouldn't pigeon hole themselves. I was asking more as fans, what positions would you prefer to see addressed.

Ojabo, "Sauce” and Lloyd please

Hurts does seem to have a little Lebron "me,me,me” in him.   I’m not saying he’s a dooosh like Lebron.  But I see some similarities.

I don't think he's a ****, just part of the "everything I do is great crowd"

This is a good play, but is it representative of his overall play?

How often does he plant and throw against pressure, and how often does he get happy feet and vacate a solid pocket?

If this is what Hurts is doing consistently then it points toward real development.  If he’s doing it once for every 7-8 times he’s not going through reads and progressions then it’s a different conversation

Well, as a fan, I'd prefer to see them take the best defender on the board.    They make mistakes when they look for positions to fill.

They want a deep threat WR... so they go after Jalen Reagor, who was never really 'that guy', but he was supposed to be fast... and end up missing on a half a dozen guys who are just flat better WRs.

They want a DE... so they zero in on Derek Barnett, and miss on a bunch of DBs and even an all-time great pass rusher in TJ Watt.

They need to stop worrying so much about 'value' and start worrying more about 'talent'.  This defense needs TALENT, not value.

True, although as fortune would have it DE and CB are the best potions in this draft, both in quality and quantity. Other than Hamilton or Leal, I don't see another defender that could warrant an Eagles selection over the top CB and DE left on the board. Dean is great, but Eagles and 1st rd LBs, enough said.

What you are saying is... he needs to do it consistently.   Agreed.   But, he needs to do it sporadically before he can do it consistently.

That's why the Denver game was so encouraging to me... and why every game since then has been rather disappointing.   In the Denver game he did do it consistently and it worked out great.  Since then it's back to sporadically.
