That should go for ANY position and EVERY position as well.  In the NFL, if you aren't moving forward, you are falling behind.  You have to look to upgrade constantly... and that goes for any position.  It always comes down to the cost analysis and the risk/reward calculation.

Yes, but I'd advise against spending premium draft capital on a position like QB a few months after you hand the guy you currently have one of the highest paid extensions in the league

Thats an inappropriate topic of discussion and the league will fine you for that.

I mean, you would advise against it... but that won't stop the QB factory.  Gotta keep the inventory up.

They will quickly become the Washington "A"s.  and we all know how much fodder that will provide.

He's showing more signs of growing in to Cam Newtons ego than he is signs of being an above average passing QB.  Keep in mind, Cam was a mentor for him.  There are small mannerisms in him that make me think he could go the Cam route but I think he has a better head on his shoulders and has great leadership in his life to steer him away of becoming Cam.  However, we have no idea how success can change people.

OBJ wasn't OBJ at LSU.

Cam wasn't Cam at Auburn.

Antonio Brown wasn't AB at CMU.

The list goes on.  Success changes people in different ways.  You can see it in both DK and Justin Jefferson.  The more success they both see, the more diva they become.  I think DK is going to be a headache, especially when it comes to next contract/team.

Hurts has shown that he has A LOT of the look at me generation traits...will be interesting to see which direction he goes.

OBJ was a dewsh at LSU (not the NFL level but still)

Cam was a smug, thought he was above everyone POS dating back to getting kicked out of Florida.

I’m not an extreme Hurts Supporter. I want him to get better and develop but there are times im really not happy with his play. Id be okay keeping him and building the team. I’d be okay moving on with a new QB. The only people who are extreme are the haters who turn him writing a letter about fixing a stadium into a bad thing.

 I think some look at all the Positive Hurts hype and wonder what is the deal? Like why does everyone feel the need to really push his high character and good team mate to everyone?

It's unusual - odd. So people remark about it.

A heck of a lot more posters in here saying Hurts is the answer then there are guys saying we need an "elite passer", as you proclaim.

Really?  Loud doesn't mean many.

Just a fan thing but how funny would it be if their logo/mascot was an anchor and they just continued to be bottom of the division for years to come

Well, those guys can state their positions if they want to, I just haven't seen it.

I would agree looking at the $ side, but from a play on the field side? You would want to upgrade that position.

Hold on folks.  Restart every conversation we've had in here just in case Parrot Head didn't see it.

🙄

"Is Jalen the long term answer".    Well he's on a rookie deal.   Why spend Draft capital fishing for Rodgers or Wilson when we do need upgrades in other positions?  We have a QB that's being successful in this new system and he's on a rookie deal.   I honestly think Jalen should be good to go for next season with some upgrades on offense and defense.   And let's see where we go.   After next year he will have been with the team for 3 years.  Then at that point we can see if a Long term contact is in order.   I just think this rush to "Upgrade" is premature.   I think Jalen is just getting started.   We have a golden opportunity.  3 1st round Picks from a Playoff team.

Yea, Cam had D-Bag tendencies but he also presented himself as a very clean cut guy, did really well at his press conferences and in a way charmed reporters...not the Andre 3000 character he created himself to be.

And, yes, as we both said, Jalen Hurts seems to have a great mental makeup to him.  However, I'm not just talking about the letter. Send the letter, keep it to yourself.  Don't send it then blast it on social media. I mentioned it last night but for me at least, it goes back to the summer when he was releasing heavily produced workout videos, talking in the 3rd person and such.   He's also been so damn coached up that he talks in cliché's and quotes.  It's almost an act.  That's not a knock on Hurts, just an observation of a coaches sun who then played for some legendary and great college coaches.

I don't think we know who the genuine/real Jalen Hurts is. That's what makes me question what he could become.  He knows that he's a brand now.  He's going to market himself.  The Philly media is GUSHING over him and you know damn well he knows it.

I think this off-season we're going to see the next step in marketing of Hurts.  I'll bet money that he signs on to become a Jordan Brand athlete.  You'll notice that he came in to the league wearing UA gear.  He's now wearing Jordan cleats (I know a lot of guys do but only a few are signed on)...just something to keep your eyes on.  He already has the Oakley deal.  Jordan is next.

I don't disagree that Jalen is playing the game, and playing it well. I find his press conferences to be insufferable because he never actually says anything -- just all cliches as you said. He's clearly been very well coached to present himself a certain way. Honestly, I kind of respect it -- he is doing what he can to increase his brand value. To me, that shows intelligence, even if it is infuriating - the man wants to maximize his earnings potential.

I'm just pointing out that we haven't seen any of the concerning character traits we saw with Cam.

Disagree, if you can get an established, elite QB at a reasonable price. Wilson, Rodgers or Watson -- you pull the trigger unless the cost is insane. Those guys just don't come available, and three of them may be possibilities this year. You don't change just to change, but if you can get someone elite, you do it.

This is exactly why I don't get the "he's extremely likeable!" talking points. I feel like it's just getting parroted because someone else constantly said it. Every PC he just sits there mumbling like a moody teenager, throws in some cliches and then just kind of acts like an a-hole to some of the questions.

In fairness he spends 2 minutes every other year in here so he should have seen it. How's that for hyperbole?

If they think  Lloyd is better because he beat up on worse competition it'll be a huge issue.

At the end of the day you have to grade these kids from smaller schools/weaker schools on a curve.

Having 30 sacks in the pac 12 is like have 10 sacks in the SEC.

Playing Auburn, Ole Miss, Bama, LSU and playing well is better than playing AMAZING against Washington state, Hawaii, Utah and Boise St.

That's a bit hyperbolic but ok sure

One can also say a kid coming from  a school where he has  blue chip talent all around him needs to be graded on a curve

Take for instance McDougal and green from Miami, that d line was stacked in college and it was a big time program in a power 5 conference yet McDougal and green both sucked in the NFL??? Maybe be side they were a product of playing next to Vince Wilfork and having great LBs and DBs behind them and week in and week out even though they were playing too teams they are still playing against a bunch of scrub college O lineman whom the majority will be selling Insurance In a year.

Those guys need to be graded on a curve as well, are they good players or products of being surrounded by other good players?

The draft is a crap shoot and it comes down to more than what school a player played at.

Like I said If I'm looking at Dean and Lloyd on my board in the same place I'm taking Lloyd all day every day, I don't think the competitive difference between the pac12 and other power conferences has such a gap that I would take a 210 pound midget LB over a LB like Lloyd with real NFL size.

It works on most people. That's why people talk in cliches, coach speak, etc. -- morons fall for it.

I like Nick's press conferences because he actually tries to answer some of the questions. And what happened to Nick for being honest -- he got crushed by the media and fans.

Huh?

I read pretty much every post in here.

But, yeah, if you think it's some kind of gotcha that I don't live in here like some of you, then you got me!

If he keeps winning I'll like him. If not he can move on down the road. I'll say this , I like him more now than I did earlier in the season.

1st of all, Rodgers nor Wilson will be "Reasonably" Priced.   They will command a high premium.  Watson might be but his Legal drama present an issue.   So if you mark off those three whose left in the Draft?   Why give up Draft Picks for an expensive Rodgers or Wilson?  Even if you don't feel Jalen is the answer, there are clearly other issues on our team that need to be addressed.   I think this debate about QB would make more sense if we had a record like the Giants or we continued to fall apart after 2-5 instead of being in the playoffs.
