Pretty sure one of the issues between Doug and Wentz was Wentz checking to passes too often at the LOS.

Thats possible-  to be fair I dont know. I have not heard that rumor.

The three linebackers selected after Kendricks (Wagner, Zach Brown, and David), all went to the Pro Bowl.

That said, we won a SB with Kendricks.  He was a key contributor.  And if we had drafted one of the other three, think of all of the subsequent timelines that do not lead to SB LVII.

I would not want to change anything before 2/4/18.

To Kendrick’s credit, it was his best season he had since signing his extension. Came at the absolute best time.

I mean picks can't fail repeatedly with the team that picks them but it's not like that's all because of the GM.

Actually, that's how it works in my understanding of the corporate structure of the team.  The GM hires the underlings, the GM crafts the scouting department, the vision for the organization and determines what the personality of that team will be... usually in coordination with the HC and the staff, but they are all supposed to be pulling in ONE direction.  What we've seen repeatedly here in recent years is a spastic array of different directions... and different philosophies in whom they draft from year to year.  One year its highly productive players from big schools, but with limited physical tools, then its lower production but higher athleticism... then back again.  It's tiresome.  There is no single vision, even though its been one guy at the top the whole time?  Seems odd and a lack of conviction to know what type of team they want to be.

Seems you bought the team's PR spin and put everything on Doug.  He's the fall guy.

But, even if it was 75% on Doug... then the other 25% falls on Howie, doesn't it?   So, in that case all of the people responsible aren't gone, are they?

Some of the 25% falls on Lurie.

if you want/expect a 100% house cleaning then you are right and I am wrong.  I don’t think that radical a housecleaning was necessary.  The primary contributors to the problem were purged.

if 100% housecleaning was the right approach then Stoutland would be gone too.

What really worries me about Reagor is Sirianni is a WR coach, thats his specialty.  If Reagor can't develop with him there's probably no hope.

Yes and no.  How much could you reasonably expect of him as a WR guru in his first season, when all of the HC responsibilities are new to him?

I would argue, however, now that Sirianni is very familiar with Reagor, we can see how his background with WRs will impact 2022.

And Jalen Hurts is being treated as the second coming.  Wentz had to do it himself and did not have a running game carrying him.

😄😄 By who?  Some people on Twitter and a few on here?

He still needs to prove he can be a consistent, quality passer.  We all know he's elite at running but everyone knows he's not locked in here for the next 10 years or something.  He still has much to prove as a passer.

If he doesnt, he won't be here beyond 2022 unless they cant get a better option.

Same question to you. Would those draft decisions have held Brady or Rodgers or Brees back?  They would have made the most of the cards they were dealt.  Wentz wasn’t able or willing to adjust his game and went down in flames as a result.

Tell me when any of the three of them had not one, not two, but their top THREE WRs ALL be players that started the year on the Practice squad?   Did any of them ever have that?  Or in 2020 have the top receiver in terms of yardage be a guy that was picked up during the season after being cut by the worst team in football?

It wasn't just a few hiccups in the road, it was historically bad WR roster construction, the likes of which we have never seen before in a professional football team, and hopefully never will again!

Nah, he's still here.

I agree and that was 100% on Doug.

Doug was responsible for signing players now?   The same guy who had no control over who his OC and WR coaches were?   That Doug?

He wasn't even put on the side of the stadium this past summer, even though he was going to be the starter.

Only a handful are licking his balls.

And don't confuse "pleasantly surprised" with "he's the guy".

Okay Matt, now explain to us what exactly was Wentz supposed to do to be a "better leader" when his team outright sucked that year 2019?

Play within the system instead of constantly going the road of "I know better”.  Follow a less is more approach and throttle back on extending plays.

Wentz had already fallen apart prior to the end of the 2019 season.  So drafting Hurts was incidental

That very well could be true.  And if that's the case then shame on both of them.

The stats don’t lie and in large part I see them as confirmation of Wentz’s conversion to hero ball.  That conversion exposed him to increased injury risk ant significantly increased turnover frequency.  Then when confronted with his own vulnerabilities he wasn’t able to handle not being the hero.

Just a point out Stoutland almost left the organization last offseason.

Somewhat agree.

If the 2017 draft had been better, we would not be in this situation.  Best player is Barnett and no one else is with the team.  If you want to sustain and try and get another title in that window, you can not draft a player you have to redshirt that year ( Sidney Jones).  Instead of an injured CB who was not going to play, could have drafted Mixon, JuJu, Kamara, Cooper Kupp ( something tells me Wentz and Kupp would have been besties ).  Instead of addressing skill positions in the 2017 draft, we traded for and extended aging WR's, and rolled with a running back group in 2018 of a broken down Ajayi, an aging Sproles, and Josh Adams and Wendell Smallwood were the leading rushers.

Because of the 2017 draft and resulting bad decisions, we draft Miles in 2019 ( not a bad pick, but that problem should have been solved 2017 ), drafted JJAWful, and put 1 pick into the defense and he was a bust.

Then because of more failures, we had to put multiple resources into WR in the 2020 draft, while still not appropriately addressing the defense, and then drafted a backup QB to make it worse.

Then, after drafting 4 WR's in the previous two drafts, and using multiple draft picks trading for Golden Tate, Desean Jackson, we then had to spend a top 10 pick on a WR in 2021.

So don't try to score? Throw balls to people who aren't open? Don't run when your makeshift oline breaks down again?  Wentz played like crap in 2020 there is no argument there. 2019 he did what he needed to do with the team that he was given or remained and drug practice squad players into the playoffs.

I get what you're saying but I mean teams passed on David and Wagner from the 1st round and some again in the 2nd.

I always thought Kendricks was a good player.  Not on their level but still.

I could see if Wagner and David fell to round 4 or later, but they were all grouped in the same round 2 range and all went in round two. Howie just selected the worst of the three and it's not as if those other 2 went before our pick. It bothers me because I really liked Wagner and David that draft and we were in need of a linebacker, so in typical Eagles fashion we took Kendricks. Still burns me after all these years.

Cool thing about joe burrow is that he has beaten the chiefs and Vegas. Won a division title while being sacked the most in the league (51 times). Also he threw for 974 yards the last two weeks and 8 tds.

I’d add he also lost his nameplate and went nameless last week. Lol

He's also only thrown for 4205 yards.

Luck - 5,032

Murray - 4,508

Burrow - 5,185

Playing within that system with that personnel guaranteed loses. The only hope was hero ball. Ultimately, it did not work but at least it gave the team a puncher's chance.

Wasn't that when Reid was still here?  I thought he made the picks back then or had a big say in who gets picked?

I remember hearing about David at Nebraska but had never seen Wagner play or heard of him in college.
