It's better than fine for now, it's excellent value for the contract he has.

However, that level of production will not be good enough for a 2nd contract.

So either he dramatically improves, or sooner or later we will need a new QB.

Agreed.

I'm fine with Hurts in 2022. In no way shape or form do I want to extend him. Hurts' major value is average QB production on a 2nd round contract.

We don't want the be the Vikings-Kirk Cousins team.

Ha, no it wasn't that guy or any regulars. Though Chuck is pretty entertaining when he's talking about ringing necks.

People have just assumed that the Eagles can get one of the top QBs in a better draft class. Punting on pursuing Rodgers/Wilson/Watson is a huge gamble.

Say the Eagles bring back Hurts in 2022 and have a similar type season and their pick is in the same range it is now. And there is a QB they absolutely love in the 2023 draft class. For one, other teams will also be pursuing those QBs. Teams like the Steelers, Saints, Browns, Dolphins, Giants, WFT, Seahawks, Packers(if Rodgers leaves), Broncos, Lions, Vikings, Colts could all be pursuing QBs in that draft. And that implies the teams in those spots even want to trade out.

Going into 2022 with Hurts could actually end up backfiring. If Rodgers, Wilson, and Watson all find new homes this offseason, and the Eagles can't get a top level QB in the 2023 draft, then they're basically stuck having to re-sign Hurts or take a lesser QB in the 2023 draft and hope he works out. Both bad options. If you re-sign Hurts, then he's your QB at least for a couple more years after that, and same likely for a QB you draft. You aren't going to invest in one and then move on in a year.

And these are going to be valuable years of players' primes you're essentially just wasting without any real chance to contend.

Few things.  First off The Eagles don't have to re-sign Hurts in 2023.  He is only on year 2 of a 4 year deal.  He is signed until 2024.  You say punting on Watson is a huge gamble, well trading for a guy with over 20 rape/sexual assault investigations on him is a much larger gamble.  As for Rodgers and Wilson, you assume they want to come here.  Wilson because of his wife would much rather pick a team like the Giants over the Eagles.  Rodgers is going to want to go somewhere that he can play GM like Brady and that isn't going to be here with Howie.

The defense needs to be rebuilt.  The draft picks need to be spent there instead of trying to bring in some old QBs.

Agreed, if you have a change to get a legit QB, don't punt on it. Especially if your backup plan is "hoping" to get one in the 2023 draft.

If you can get Aaron Rodgers, but Howie is the sticking point, then Howie should be fired immediately.

The thing about Jalen Hurts as a franchise QB...is that you don't have to make a decision this year. We can decide next year with a better draft class + other QBs available (we just don't know who they are yet).

1.  I don't think anyone assumes this

2.  They won't punt on those guys; those guys will punt on the Eagles

Yeah but clearly that isn't going to happen.  Jeffery loves Howie.

You say I assume Rodgers and Wilson would want to come here, and you follow that up with assumptions of your own, that Wilson would want to be coached by Joe freaking Judge and play for that absolute clown show up there in NY. I highly doubt it. The Eagles are a ready-made playoff team with a great offensive line. Something Wilson has never had. And the Giants don't even play in NY anyway.

The Eagles could go into 2023 season with Hurts as a lame duck QB, but most teams don't do that. They lock them in. Regardless, if the Eagles don't get their QB situation figured out by the 2023 offseason, it's going to be bad. They have a leg up on the rest of the NFL with their draft capital, it's the only advantage they have right now over the rest of the league. They need to use that advantage to find that elite QB. One way or the other. Whether it's getting a star veteran, or trading down multiple times and loading up in the 2023 draft and hoping one of the teams you trade down with lands you a top 5 pick. Squander this, and they're on even ground fighting with about 10 other teams for a QB. Don't like those odds.

You don't have to make a move this year ... but it's very possible Nick has already made a decision.  Some head coaching hires only get one shot in the NFL; Nick might be tying his fortunes into a QB (Hurts or otherwise).  That's why a lot of head coaches, especially OC promotions, get to draft and develop their choice.

But against this defense, they really won't punt against the Eagles.

See below. You have no idea who is in the class, what picks we have, and how those picks will be slotted.

Having the ammunition to trade up for a QB in 2023 means jack s*** if the team with the pick likes the QB. MIA and CAR were willing to unload a load of picks for Burrow, but Cincy said no. There were reports that Howie kicked the tires on a trade up for Zach Wilson, Jets said no.

Hoping to trade up for a QB in 2023 is not a strategy, it's a shot in the dark.

Russell's wife wants out of Seattle.  She is a singer.  She wants to go somewhere for the social life.  NYC would be far more appealing to Wilson's wife than Philly.

If the Eagles and Hurts are entering 2023 and at that point Hurts has earned a new contract then that's a good thing.  If not then you can still play out the year with him if need be.  He isn't someone like Pickett who would hold out demanding a new contract.  They have draft capital but the QBs you have interest in have no trade clauses.  The Giants also have better draft capital.

They need to use that draft capital to improve this team and continue to rebuild it.  They have invested a lot of draft capital into rebuilding the offense and now they need to do the same on defense.  I really don't understand this logic that people like you have where hey if trade the farm for one of these teams then we will suddenly be winning Super Bowls.  Except Rodgers hasn't won in over a decade, Wilson in nearly a decade and Watson never.  Our defense desperately needs an injection of young blue chip talent because all of our best players are on the wrong side of 30 on that side of the ball.  Rodgers/Wilson/Watson don't play defense.

I think it's likely Rodgers stays in GB now probably, it feels like their fighting phase is over. But if he or Wilson want out, the Eagles make a lot of sense for both of them. Aggressive owners who care about winning, a head coach that seems well-liked by players, and an offensive line and some young offensive weapons.

Can't think of many better situations.

If they stay on top of the league, the Eagles have made an impression.

Have you talked to Ciara? How do you know this?

First of all, Philly is right down i95 from NYC. She can get there in two hours. And I don't think a QB is going to approve being traded to a miserable situation because "his wife wants NYC night life." Especially in a COVID world. Think about what you're saying.

Just going off of the reports since last offseason.  If you're being real with yourself the city of Philadelphia is not viewed nicely around the country.  Deservedly so lately too.

He's exactly the type of person who would hold out heading into the final season of a contract.

This is way more of a thing in the NBA than the other 3 sports. In the other sports players go where the money is in free agency and in trade they go where they think they can win. I really don’t think Philly would be a problem for Wilson, and the giants per Schefter aren’t looking to move on from Jones anyway.
