I can and will complain about the Defense … and did so throughout the game last night.  Gannon appeared to revert back to the soft zone scheme he deployed in the first seven games of the season.  That was a recipe for the coverage disaster we saw.  I don’t care that the defense of backs were the scrubs put them in the position to be aggressive. As was pointed out by Brian Griese over and over again to the zone coverage is that Gannon had schemed up require coordination between the defense of backs and the linebackers. That coordination simply wasn’t there. And I don’t think it was the personnel that was the root cause of the lack of coordination.

Yup it one is going to give up 50+ one might as well take some chances I stead of playing a soft zone the whole game, especially In a meaningless game,I'd understand if Gannon came out and blitzed 7 every down and gave up 50 I'd say hey they tried they just weren't talented, instead Gannon had them sit back and drop 7 all game while rushing 4 and just let the cowboys do whatever they wanted.

Then again it was basically an extra pre season game and as such was just as vanilla.

I thought the animations were pretty cool and it wouldn't surprise me if they made them better this season

I haven't looked to see who all will be commentating during the game. I don't remember who did it last season but it wasn't bad

It was awful but in a good way. It was Noah Eagle and some 13 year old girl, but they just stuck to the bare basics that it was actually tolerable compared to Vilma just talking nonsense to hear his own voice.

All these games that mean something today and I get football team at Giants. Yippee

few observations from that debacle , we have no depth at DB , BACKER and DE, only 3 WR's (smith, watkins and ward) the rest should be cut. OL has decent depth . gainwell , huntley and ward should be the return men.. team needs to add DE , BACKER , S , CB , WR and RB in the draft early and a vet WR. with that many holes i'm surprised the team is in the wild card. howie needs to  step back from the talent evaluation

My game lineup today is Pitt/Balt. and  NYG/Wash.   Garbage.

But, there's no great 1 PM game today.   At 4:25 I get 49ers/LAR.  Not too bad, I guess.

2021 is shaping up to be one of our best draft classes of the past 20 years. Smith and Dickerson look like studs, Williams has looked really good too. McPherson, Gainwell and Jackson have all showed promise. Johnson and Stoll both look like solid role players. Great job by Howie et al in the early returns.

It's wild how inconsistent he is. 2021 and 2018 we're great drafts, while 2017 and 2019 we're absolutely awful. Guy better get 2022 right with all the firsts we have.

The run game and beating up bad teams has helped get us to the playoffs

We have a ton of holes and Howie is drafting. This could be a disaster if he tries to be the smartest guy in the room again

Good for Doug. He saw how ugly things could get with a GM great at self preservation and politics.

i should have mentioned  if the team can upgrade the DC i would do it.

Eagles should ditch Gannon and go after Fangio or Zimmer if he's fired.

Most drafters are inconsistent, people are hyper focused on the Eagles, but unless you're picking in the top ten, most teams land 2 starters and a top reserve out of most drafts, and even for top 10 (b/c 3rd rd is 70 or so) it's more like 2.5 starters. Drafting is hard.

What this year shows is Howie is dependent on the people around him, which is good and bad, when he has to deal with AR or Pederson/Schwartz he often struggles, when they're in rebuild mode and the HC fades in the background he has his best years. There was definitely a SB hangover where he got away from BPA, trying to win now. Greed is NOT good.

It's not surprising he does so well drafting/signing OL, because he has Stoutland as the primary advisor, and Stoutland is a hands on coach.

He didn't draft a lot of players on defense under Schwartz, because Schwartz preferred to trade for/sign as FA established players rather than coach up players.

And that unwillingness to stick with young players cost them Poyer, Douglas, and a few others.

Which is why I'm optimistic about drafting with Siri and Gannon in house, Siri has the confidence to throw out a bunch of scrubs, give them game experience and take a beating - both to rest his starters but I think they also saw this as a great chance for player evaluation going into the offseason, not just who to replace, but what they need to coach up. Both Siri and Gannon are hands on coaches (they still coach up players instead of sitting on a tower at practice watching from a distance), which gives them a better feel for the players who'll succeed.

He was a bad hire to begin with, but what on earth did they expect him to do with this awful roster?

good to see dallas with cap woes and players to sign

Not choose to decline a 3rd down penalty, and then punt on 4th down instead.

Yes, we know.  Howie is somehow above average in this make believe world you've created to buffer Howie from any criticism.  But, what we found over Howie's tenure is that he can't draft in Round 1 when his pick lands at or after #14.   He's very consistent in that.

Here they are:
Danny Watkins
Marcus Smith
Nelson Agholor
Derek Barnett
Andre Dillard
Jalen Reagor

6 times picking at 14 or later, 6 misses.   That's very consistent.  And this year, he'll get 3 first round picks... likely all at 14 or later.   Yay!

Was tossing and turning a little before falling asleep last night and started thinking about the Eagles drafting Reagor over Jefferson.

At some point you guys will have to accept it and move on. It’s not healthy.

DeVonta has made it way easier. I've forgot about Reagor almost as much as I've forgot about JJAW.

If fans aren't over Danny Watkins or Marcus Smith, what makes you think they will ever be over Reagor/Jefferson?

This team exceeded the expectations of many this year.  But unless the Saints win today, they get to wear the crown as the playoff team with the worst ever record against 0.500 or better teams in NFL history... 0-7.  That's a concern.   Good news is they basically swept the bad teams they faced (one Giants' game excepted), but also got swept by every good team they faced.  And even that Saints game, which could buoy that record all the way to 1-7... and that was basically only a win because they were matched up against Trevor Siemian at QB.

The rest of the post was mostly fair.  Howie is probably middle ground overall though he tends to be less consistent than many others and has more highs and lows the way I see it.

As for this passage, you can look year in and year out and this topic is always overrated.

As long as the guy responsible hasn't moved on... why should we?

There was just a report a week ago they were retaining him. He somehow managed to eek out 4 wins, he should stay.

So if Howie got fired you’d instantly stop talking about Jefferson?

Cold turkey?   Probably not.   But, it would be less of an issue, because the new GM would have his own picks that would need to be overanalyzed.  :P

As painful as last night's broadcast was, I am glad they chose to shine some light on Kelce.

Well deserved in front of a national audience.
