I don’t believe they weren’t going to at least attempt a 56 yard field goal when Carlson has crushed it from 55 and 56 this year.

i’m surprised the Chargers didn’t send a run blitz to try to make a loss of yardage on Jacobs to push it back from a 56 yard field goal and make the raiders really decide on if they should try a kick.

The Raiders kicking a 56 yard FG would've been idiotic given the circumstances.

It's probably inaccurate to say the timeout in itself cost the Chargers the game if the Raiders weren't going to run out the clock. Their run defense did. But it certainly looked like the Raiders were just content on letting the clock slip away before the timeout and basically had taken the foot off the gas. The Chargers run D gave them life and perhaps the timeout motivated them.

Either way, how the Chargers didn't completely stack up front and completely sell out vs the run there is still on Staley.

Ask Bama about long FG returns lol

After the TO, if the Raiders hand off and are stuffed, the Chargers could have called TO again. That would have forced the Raiders to choose between a really long FG that potentially could put the Chargers within striking distance of their own FG, or a punt, that would all but assure a tie.

The issue was the defense failed and didn’t put the Raiders in a tough enough choice.

3rd & 4 at LAC 39
(0:38 - OT) J.Jacobs left guard to LAC 29 for 10 yards (J.Jones).

If you're honestly trying to win the game, why run on 3rd and 4 from the 39? It worked so I guess you can say that, but come on man.

I don't have an opinion.  I have math.

With 2 seconds left if they let the clock run and call a timeout? It would only be idiotic if carlson didn’t have the leg to make it and it would wind up short. He’s Fing 9 of 10 the last two years kicking from 50+ And none of the kicks were short. He made a 56 earlier this year to beat the ravens in that stadium.

To set up his defense. He might not have liked the look.

I feel like if the Raiders were planning on kicking the FG all along they wouldn't have opted to let the clock keep running when they were 2nd and long at about a 60 yard FG attempt. Don't gain any or minimals yards then you give it back to the Chargers with time left or they have a chance to return a short FG kick.

Goodnight. I think you're wrong but whatever. Still zero reason to call TO. Not one reason

Two catastrophic decisions by the Chagers HC: going for it on their own 29 and the TO when the Radiers were running the clock out.

There was no way of telling. Raiders were playing OT super aggressively until they got under 2 mins and knew they could run the clock out.

Just to point out if the raiders didn’t gain a yard on that play. It’s a 56 yard field goal. Carlson has made it from 56 this year and 55. He’s actually 5-6 from 50+ this year. And the last 2 years he’s 9-10 from 50+.

And if he misses the Chargers have the ball at midfield with 30 seconds to win the game or they punt and it most likely ends in a tie.

Staley calling a timeout was fine it was the S_____ Defense they played on the 3rd and 4 run that killed them.

Boom. We have a winner!

Who knows what is true

Doesn’t really matter. It’s not like they were taking a knee.

The Chargers would’ve had to call a time out after getting that stop.

agreed though. The Chargers not getting a stop on third and four lost that game. If they get a no gain or even a loss I think that game ends in a tie. However they give up 10 yards to put the raiders in better field-goal position.

I think they were in shotgun with the slot receiver in motion running across the formation so they could kneel

They weren’t going to kneel unless the plan was to have the slot in motion run across the formations just so Carr could receive a shotgun snap and kneel

Yeah, but it’s easier to just criticize someone and believe nonsense.

This 100%

They ran on a clear passing down. It was about as conservative of a playcall as you could imagine other than a kneeldown. The Chargers run D crapping the bed didn't change the Raiders' intentions.

Either way, Staley comes off looking terrible. Should've basically had 11 up front on that down, under no circumstance can you let a run beat you.

The fact that he took a timeout and that happens makes him look bad.

I have no doubt Carlson could've made the kick. But there is no reason to risk a block in that situation.

They knew a tie was a fine outcome but that a win was optimal for playoff matchups. There was no reason to hurry or be aggressive. They could afford to slow play it.

Al is hilarious.
