Staley's worst decision last night was going for it on the 4th and 1 from his own 18 yard line. That was dumb.  The other one isn't stellar, but hardly a crime. He's made a bunch of other odd decisions this season that have cost his team points, etc.

I'm sure Wentz was happy that it removed him from the WTF is he doing stuff that was going around.

I didn’t love the decision to go for it but can understand going for it if you had a good play call. I Fing hated the play call. I love ekeler but he’s not ideal for short yardage at his size and the raiders played them to call that simplistic run up the gut. It was a double whammy. If I’m going for that in a long 4th and 1 then I’m trying to fake Justin jackson getting the hand off up the middle and pitch it to ekeler trying to get him off tackle where he can utilize his speed and agility or allowing herbert to sling it as he’s my best player.

Can't help but feel this is a mistake for them.  He had that franchise on the right track for relevancy.  They must be big game hunting and have their eyes on Harbaugh.

Brian Flores should not have been fired.

However, he should have tanked the Dolphins season by trading assets at the deadline. Congrats on 9-8!

Not his call.  That's up to the GM.

The guy we really want them to keep is Gettleman.

NFL Teams rarely tank

It's dumb from your own 18 at that stage of the game, regardless of the play call.   Just criminally stupid.

I agree. Ross thinks he has a good shot at Harbaugh.

yup.  But to pin not tanking on Flores makes no sense anyway.

Consider him for DC if we part ways with Gannon.

I would’ve punted given the situation and time left. However i hated the play call as much as he went for it. The play call was as bad as the decision to go for it. The raiders saw it coming from a mile away. They compounded a bad decision with another equally bad decision on the play call

frankly I was really surprised Staley didn’t go for two at the end of the game considering he went for it in that situation. they just scored the improbable td and the raiders defense probably shocked,  gassed and who knows psyche of the raiders in general after that craziness. With how the chargers were converting 4th down and in general finding ways to convert I was shocked he didn’t go for it considering earlier in the game he went for that.

SD should… for having a former DC as HC - that scheme stinks.

Staley must be a master administrator.

Need Eagles, Bills and Rams to win in the playoffs.  3 points off the lead in a pool with one of my suppliers, and am the only one in the top 10 with multiple playoff teams.

Winner gets choice of these two items.

These are decisions both the GM/HC make.

Why didn't they trade Howard? The HC has pull too.

Even if it was a good play call and they convert that first down, it still doesn't excuse the stupidity of the decision in the first place.  The outcome doesn't change the stupidity of the process in that decision.

Going for 2 or not going for 2 is a different story altogether.   They get in the playoffs with a tie, but not a loss.  That likely played into that decision.  Of course, it's all irrelevant as that stupid 4th and 1 from their own 18 gift wrapped a free 3 points to the Raiders.   Remove that and the whole ending changes dramatically, that TD at the end is to win the game, not tie.   That's where they lost that game, and not in the play call, but in the decision to go for it.   Just foolhardy.

Seems there was a power struggle, but the coach's job is to win games, the GM's job is to build the roster.  Coaches don't want to tank.  Why should they?  Their next job is dependent on their win/loss record in their current one.  Miami winning in the second half of the season makes a strong case for Flores' next job.  Tanking wouldn't.

I’m sure it’s been talked about here, but Eagles front office needs to fire Gannon & throw stupid money at Fangio for new DC

I'll add... why tank when your highest asset (a first round pick) doesn't actually connect to YOUR results?    The Dolphins' first round pick isn't theirs, they own the 49ers' pick.   So, what's the benefit in tanking for upgrading the 2nd round pick from the 50s into the late 30s?   Makes very little sense, and kills your rapport with your current players.

True. However if I’m going to call it there and do that stupidity, I’m not doubling down on the stupid. I’m going with my best play i got given I’m dumb enough to go for it. not my worst play that everyone in the world knew they called.
