I loved Mailata when he was drafted.  I love him as the LT of the future.  But this is complete and utter BS from PFF.

There is absolutely ZERO chance that he allowed 3 combined sacks and QB hits this year.  Zero.  He has had multiple games this year where he has really struggled in pass protection with both sacks and hits.  And that's OK given his experience and trajectory; I'm not riding him for it.  But that PFF analysis is just sheer fluff.  It was a running joke this year every time he gave up a sack that PFF would post something that he had the NFL's highest grade in pass protection for the week.

And for all those in the "these guys owe their school and their teammates to play in meaningless bowl games” camp, this is why they don’t.

And for the record, I am NOT saying that game was meaningless.

Are any college games "meaningful"? Maybe they should go right to the pros?

An NFL minor league would be good, the NFL doesn't want to foot that bill.  But the top high school recruits would likely still go to college if NIL's remained as they'd make much more than playing in a minor league.  I'd love to have 10-15 guys to follow in the "minors" like I do with the Phils and Flyers.  It would be a circus to start but it would be fun to have a minor league team in Harrisburg with players from the Eagles, Ravens, WFT and Steelers.

But they could get hurt there too, no? All of those games would be "meaningless" as well. Maybe they could opt out the games they felt were meaningless

Opting out of a contract us more difficult,  of course.  Though Antonio Brown is a trailblazer in that regard.

Sadly, I want him to get hired this year just so we don't have to hear all of the people crying racist that he doesn't get hired again.

He has some better choices this year.  He has connections to the Vikings.

Looking like windy and rain during  the game

Jags not impressed by Pederson, B.O.B. In the interview seat now lol

Sounds likes the Shah likes to draft his own players and set the 53 every Sunday too,

Antonio must’ve felt the rest of them are meaningless. Lol.

Interesting that the Eagles have 52 players on the active roster, having just placed Jackson, JJAW and Toth on injured reserve.  I would be surprised if they sign many players outside the organization.  I can’t see them going into the playoffs with just 4 WRs and 2 TEs.  My guess is that the elevate Rodgers, if for no other reason than experience.  Don’t know enough about Togiai as an Eagle to project him being elevated although he does have two years in the Colts/Eagles system so arguably more experienced with Sirianni than Rodgers.  May come down to who blocks better, as for all intents and purposes, JJAW was primarily a blocker.

WR is interesting. None of those WRs on the PS have the speed or size of JJAW.  Thus it probably comes down to hands and route running.  Anybody’s guess as to which of those players might fit.

With Bradley banged up,  I wonder if Taylor finally returns or if they might go with Jacoby Stevens.

With Toth down, who backs up Johnson?   Probably Clark.  Has Dillard learned to play RT or might they elevate Awosika to give themselves a little more T depth.

it may come down to protection.  It may also go to poaching.  For example, let’s say the Eagles know there is a LB they like that sat on another team’s PS.  Sign that player and just inactivate on Sunday and elevate a PS player.  By the same token, the Eagles may want to sign the PS players they like the most to the active roster to protect them while inactivating them and elevating another PS player for the game.  Yesterday was tryout Tuesday so we may get a hint today.

I look at last Sunday as a bonus PS like game.  We get film on most of the youngsters.  The game plan was a little more vanilla than with the starters, especially on D.  I am looking forward to JR’s comments on the OL that played.  They actually did better against the “#1 defense” than I expected.  I plan to focus on the secondary and a little on the WR play when I look at the All 22. If JR already commented on the OL let me know and I will search it. I was driving from Texas Sunday and Monday and missed most of the after game commentary.

Eagles - 31

The USFL starts this spring. I think it will be like a NFL minor league if it survives.  CFL does a little of that but not intentionally. The AAF was targeting that.  It is interesting that the USFL is bringing back some old names like the Stars, Gamblers, Stallions, Generals.  Hopefully they don’t try to compete again.  Not sure picking existing NFL locations was a good idea.  The Rock openly has courted a partnership and if the XFL really returns, I could see them as the minor league the NFL needs so desperately to develop players that just aren’t quite getting that at college. That said, I really like the Covid induced PS and IR rules.  NFL should keep those.

The problem with it is college football is big money and it is essentially a minor league training ground for professional athletes.  No one bats an eye at business students having internships and getting paid for summer jobs and then going back to school.   Schools could solve the problem by just paying players.  If schools want to see player elite players not sit out for a season and play in bowl games, pay them, buy an insurance policy that provides gap coverage if an injury diminishes a players draft pick.  I mean why shouldn't Alabama and the NCAA cover the cost of a policy for Jameson Williams if he moves from a first round pick to a second round pick. Treat these kids like you are developing them to be elite professional athletes.  Provide direction around that field.  It's no different than kids who go to school for any other very technical and specified field.  Stop treating college athletes like they are amateurs or need to be amateurs to maintain the integrity of the game.

Was he named All Pro again this year or it's just refencing how he has previously been named All Pro?

I don't have a big problem paying them I guess if for some reason their free education (which could be 100,000 or more) isn't enough for them. I do however have a problem with them accepting the free tuition and then "opting" out of "meaningless" games. When that was the reason they got the free tuition and they knew that going in.

Nobody wants to see them get hurt especially "minutes" before they are getting drafted, unfortunately that is part of the game of football and a chance that most of us mere mortals would gladly take for a free education and a shot to even get into the NFL

I believe Sirianni was asked about this and indicated that it would indeed be Rodgers who would take the spot on the 53. And last week he confirmed Davion Taylor wouldn't be returning this year due to injury.

The reality is that the fall semester is over by the time bowl games are over and many college football players that intend to pursue careers in the NFL leave college after the fall semester not intending to attend in the spring because they are going to be training for the NFL Combine and Pro Days during that time in preparation for the draft.  So, in essence you are asking a former student to play in the bowl games.   Seeing several players that are entering the draft be injured in bowl games doesn’t help your argument.   The bowl games in question are being opted out of by former students no longer receiving that free education (at their choice, not because it was pulled).  Want to solve that problem?  Play bowl games right after the college football season before the fall semester ends.  (Whoops, that interferes with travel after the holidays for alum attending the games or TV after the fall season which contributes so much money back to the coffers of Universities and the NCAA).  BTW, actual cost of the tuition and room and board for those players pales in comparison to the money their play brings to most universities.).
