It's an internship for the NFL. Most will get a free education, which is worth a lot of money in many cases. Others will get jobs in the NFL. They know the risks and that's how business works. As for class schedule...lots of single moms handle more than practice and classes.

If it's a business then let the free market decide what they should get.   Allow student athletes to make as much money as they can as an athlete for their likeness.  Allow them to do TV commercials.  Allow schools to offer more than scholarships.  If schools could offer cash or boosters were willing to pay athletes, let them.  Stop pretending it's not big business and there's some integrity to not paying these players.

I think the NFL has to own its minor leagues otherwise any other league will be competition.   Not inconceivable for another league to do well and force the hand of the NFL.  USFL will definitely be competing with the NFL for bottom half of rosters to begin with and if they do well and don't have a rookie wage scale a few years from now and NFL 2nd round pick can make 3x as much in the USFL as a 1st round pick....

My point is don't count on others to do your job for you because they will always be gunning for your job.

I would love for the Eagles and every team for that matter, to have a minor league team.

Be the perfect spot for Reagor to play.

As a teenager my dad gave me two pieces of advice I wish I had followed in hindsight.

The first was a pipedream -- do a walk-on tryout with a Pacific Coast League baseball team (I could throw about 90 mph at 16 years-old and LH), but I preferred both hockey and football at the time.  The second was to either learn a trade or go down to the rail yard and get on with the union.  This was back in the early 80s and might have worked.

I'm assuming trade schools are still the less expensive educational option -- that may not be the case now.

Trade schools are a good way to go for a lot of kids.  They are way less expensive than most 4 year colleges and the jobs pay more.  Far too often kids choose to get a 4 year degree and they should just get a trade.  I mean UPS drivers make great money compared to starting salaries for most 4 year degrees.  It's a union job with a retirement benefit. Truck drivers are getting paid a ton although that industry is much more volatile.  The only trade I think that doesn't do great is carpentry because most residential work isn't using highly paid carpenters.  They are using rough carpentry and pre fabricated molding.  Even experienced carpenters aren't making that much unless they are doing really custom work.

They would then also need a AA team for JJAWful...............

I'm not going to go down this rabbit hole because it's a football forum but how screwed up our schooling system is (from a cost perspective) shouldn't be a defense of how students in general are taken advantage of. Who cares? Just keep the money rolling in. The fact that insane education costs are looked over or defended is beyond me.

I think this is as safe a topic as we can discuss in the blog.

He's a summer league player if I ever saw one.

My community college has technical programs and each three credit course cost me about $500 which is still ~$30,000 for a two year degree which isn't nearly as bad. It's also way easier to get an employer to pay for education in a trade which is an added benefit. I didn't pay for any of mine because it was either paid for off the bat or I got reimbursed. We can't all flock to trade programs though and still need people to go through traditional 4 year degrees so having it gatekeeped by cost is still bad.

Are any college games "meaningful"? Maybe they should go right to the pros?

If they could, they would.

NCAA football is just athletes using the schools to get to the pros and schools using the athletes for $.

the closer you get to the end of the relationship the more the balance of power tips to the athlete.  Other than "loyalty” and "commitment” (and I’m not personally discounting that), for those top players there’s almost nothing for the athlete to gain and tons for them to lose for playing in those games.

I think if the NCAA relationship was more like a minor league system where they were paid to play it would be a completely different t situation.  But it isn’t and this is what you get. And I think it will keep getting worse.

That sounds more like 2017 lol did he even watch film this year?

How would you people feel if Giants hired Doug Pederson?

I wouldn't like it. I would hope he never coaches in the division

It's a thing guys like him and Brady learned in NE. You compliment and talk up your opponent so that when you beat them it makes you look better. If all they did was talk trash and then didn't deliver it makes themselves look bad.

Firing Joe Brady to hire Mike Groh.

Oof.

That's why the NCAA puts a limit at 20 hours 'in-season' per week.  And it's not really that different than students who have to hold down jobs while attending school to help pay for their education.   My wife and I both held part-time jobs while attending college... both of us working more than 20 hours per week.   Are you suggesting that my wife and I couldn't get the full value of a college education because of our commitments to the part time jobs?

I can promise you that these athletes are spending significantly more than 20 hours a week. That doesn't include travel time, studying the playbook, extra workouts, extra medical care, etc. I'm not even including the mental stress it takes focusing on playing for a power 5 school compared to working a part-time job.

It's really not the same.

Depends on how you look at it. I don't think it's nearly as big of a benefit as most think

Anything that helps keep Tampa under 50 is a benefit.

I'd argue it doesn't help Eagles score more than 20 in their current situation.

How many games in rain does Hurts have?

Usually you run the ball but you should also expect slipping at times

Anyone have stats of Sanders in the ran? Does he slip a lot when he's trying to juke people at the LOS?

The games and practices that improve the team are to the benefit of the school.

And to the benefit of the player... because that's what gets them drafted and the big bucks they are dreaming of.

Hoping Doug gets a job in the AFC so I can actively root for him.
