New GM and new head coach with the NYG probably means new QB.  Wouldn't be surprised if they grab Corral with one of those two top 10 picks.

If it's a business then let the free market decide what they should get.   Allow student athletes to make as much money as they can as an athlete for their likeness.  Allow them to do TV commercials.  Allow schools to offer more than scholarships.  If schools could offer cash or boosters were willing to pay athletes, let them.  Stop pretending it's not big business and there's some integrity to not paying these players.

I am on board with that... but, the interesting thing is that right now, only certain schools can actually compete for the NC.   Is that going to get better or worse moving forward with this model?

My only issue is that a commitment should be a commitment.  You committed to do 'x'... so you do it, even if you don't like it.  Or, pay back what you got but didn't complete.

Trade schools are a good way to go for a lot of kids.  They are way less expensive than most 4 year colleges and the jobs pay more.  Far too often kids choose to get a 4 year degree and they should just get a trade.  I mean UPS drivers make great money compared to starting salaries for most 4 year degrees.  It's a union job with a retirement benefit. Truck drivers are getting paid a ton although that industry is much more volatile.  The only trade I think that doesn't do great is carpentry because most residential work isn't using highly paid carpenters.  They are using rough carpentry and pre fabricated molding.  Even experienced carpenters aren't making that much unless they are doing really custom work.

My BIL is a painter... owns his own business and just bought an expensive house in West Chester... he's making more money than I am as a teacher with a Bachelor's degree, Master's degree and more credits on top of that.  He does his own carpentry and is essentially a General Contractor at this point.  When he needs more 'specialized' carpentry skills for a job, he just calls his brother, who is a licensed carpenter, and he does the more intricate stuff.    Together, they build a cabin (which is actually way nicer than my house) in the Poconos from scratch.  They did all the work themselves from clearing the trees, foundation, drywall, etc.  They did all the steps in the process... although I think he had to hire an electrician and plumber to inspect his work before he could get the township to inspect it for code.   He's since sold the cabin to investors from CA because he got sick of the headaches of renting it out.    All in all, he's in a far more comfortable financial situation than I am.

If I was Doug, I'd prefer a place that has a QB already in place.  Only ones that don't are NYG and Denver.

I think if the Raiders job became available it would be perfect for him.  They already have a QB in place, good weapons.  But most likely they stick with their current HC.

I'm really starting to change my mind on Doug.  After seeing what happened with Wentz in 2020 I thought Doug was most to blame but maybe it was the QB that was the problem.

NCAA football is just athletes using the schools to get to the pros and schools using the athletes for $.

the closer you get to the end of the relationship the more the balance of power tips to the athlete.  Other than "loyalty” and "commitment” (and I’m not personally discounting that), for those top players there’s almost nothing for the athlete to gain and tons for them to lose for playing in those games.

I think if the NCAA relationship was more like a minor league system where they were paid to play it would be a completely different t situation.  But it isn’t and this is what you get. And I think it will keep getting worse.

I agree.

That said, I don't think ALL of NCAA Football is just athletes using the schools to get to the pros, but there's definitely a portion, just as it is with the NCAA and D-I basketball.   I shutter to think about what would happen to the tournament if this started to happen there.  It would just crumble... and quickly.

Does anyone know a website that archives the local radio brodcast calls of NFL games over the years?

I think Doug will have to have a much better coaching staff lined up than what he suggested to Lurie.  If he lands a job it will be quite interesting who his coordinators would be -- hopefully Nagy isn't his go-to OC.

I can promise you that these athletes are spending significantly more than 20 hours a week. That doesn't include travel time, studying the playbook, extra workouts, extra medical care, etc. I'm not even including the mental stress it takes focusing on playing for a power 5 school compared to working a part-time job.

It's really not the same.

Oh... there's plenty of mental stress working the part-time jobs as a college student.   :P  You ever work in the college cafeteria?   lol.

Pretty sure that's what will happen.

How many games in rain does Hurts have?

Usually you run the ball but you should also expect slipping at times

Anyone have stats of Sanders in the ran? Does he slip a lot when he's trying to juke people at the LOS?

Did McCoy slip a lot when he had great games in the snow?

Then of course he dooms himself and will only have 2017

I think that was a flex to get out of this situation after being steamrolled by Lowie on his coaching staff the year before.  That made him look really bad, he and his QB seemed to have a falling out and it was time for him to move on.  I don't think that it was a move he believed in as much as a move he knew would get him fired... and I think he was absolutely fine with it.  And... he got paid anyway not to coach.  He certainly didn't seem to be in a hurry to jump back in, but got to travel a little, see everything from a new perspective and just take a deep breath from where he was.    I have zero doubt that he'll go somewhere else and be successful again.  Maybe not a SB, they are hard to come by and no coach that I can recall has ever won a Super Bowl with two different teams... only have gotten to Super Bowls with multiple teams.  Vermeil, Parcells, Reeves... any others?

Different runners have different levels of effectiveness in bad weather.  For 'move' guy, Gale Sayers was an all-time great 'mudder'.  John Riggins was much more power matched with speed and was another great 'mudder'.  Barry Sanders is a guy I don't recall ever having much success in bad weather.

Doug PETERSENS

I would be ecstatic if the Giants hired Doug Pederson. His game plans are already stale and his team fell apart once his assistants left.

On the plus side: The lockerroom does seem to like him.

My phone just now tried to CORRECT THE PROPER NAME to Peterson. That’s so incredibly annoying.

I’m not sure why he asked that🤷‍♂️

Eagles only forced 4 fumbles all year; TB forced 12.  A wet field and footballs is probably not to the Eagles' advantage.

Windy conditions would be advantage Eagles -- Brady's passes being affected by wind, while Hurts' ..... runs ... not so much.

Dude played in NE for years. I dont think the wind will do anything to him.

Bucs defensive game plan is going to be "Make Hurts throw". If it's raining and windy, the defensive game plan is going to stay the same but they can now go even more all out to stop the run. IMO, perfect conditions benefit the Eagles more where they have a chance to be a balanced offense and complete some passes in the passing game to keep the defense honest. Add in Sanders with a broken hand and Howard with a dinged knee and bum shoulder. Leaning on the run game isn't going to be a way to win for the Eagles when the drives face 3rd and long in bad conditions.

Bucs have Brady whose good enough to still have a balanced offense regardless of the conditions, even if it's not at its peak performance.
