Yup.  The best part about Mailata for a teacher like Stoutland is that he didn't have to 'fix' any bad habits, but could just get him up to speed.

This was an interesting tidbit in an Athletic article:

Mahomes, Carr and Herbert are a combined 41-3 since 2019 when their teams finish games with positive combined EPA on defense and special teams. That 93% win rate is extraordinary. The league at large has won about 72% of those games. Fangio’s Broncos won 61%; they are 14-9 in those games, spread across six starting quarterbacks, none of whom are likely to be starters in the future (there was even one game, a 2020 defeat against New Orleans, when Denver played without any of its QBs because of COVID-19).

The difference between 41-3 and 14-8 is one part of the story. We also must consider the rest of the games, when AFC teams were not as good in combined defensive and special-teams performance. Mahomes, Herbert and Carr combined to go 36-47 in those games, compared to 5-21 for the Broncos. In other words, Denver won 19% of games Mahomes, Carr and Herbert won 43% of the time. The league at large won 27%.

NFL teams with a new starting QB Week 1 of 2022, starting with the Steelers: Mike Sando’s betting guide – The Athletic

Yes, elite QBs matter, but not as much as defense and special teams. .

I’m sure Fangio takes great solace in that.

Enter Brian Flores and Watson will stay.

That might be why Culley was fired... in an effort to land Flores.

I would have loved him last year as a DC.  I think Mayo and DeMeco are going to be very succesful HC someday.

He could do it on his own if he actually was feeling lingering effects.

How do you know he isn't?

Rewatchintthe Bucs-Eagles game on NFL Network.  It's so clear we can hang with them with our new offense that actually runs the ball.

Key will be to not have any turnovers and try to get one or two off of the Bucs.

Tuned into to WIP only to hear ESP’s voice instead of Ike’s.  He and Marks were discussing Jonathan Gannon and saying that neither one of them had an issue with Gannon and didn’t understand why people wanted him fired. Then they were discussing how the front four has not gotten a lot of sacks this year and said it was not Gannon’s fault that the front for was not getting home. I knew those two morons knew nothing about football but even that was a shock to hear. When your scheme has the back seven playing off and soft as much as Gannon‘s does, of course the front four is going to have a hard time getting home because the QB can just step back and find the open guy.   So yes, it’s on Gannon.  FFS.

Not to mention that he really did not do much early in the year to run twists or stunts up front.  He also had the DTs playing a 4i instead of a 3 technique.

Hang with them?  I fully expect ganggreen domination on Sunday!!!!

Wonder if we get the green uniforms or the black on Sunday.

Imagine trying to still act like the early season offense that didn't dare to hand off to running backs at all in the first half wasn't an issue.

I don’t. And neither do the people who say he hasn’t been right since.

Edit: I’m confident if there were any noticeable lingering effects, Doug wouldn’t have let his buddy trade a 1/3 for him.

So, speculation on both sides.

We will have our answers in 3 days.  There is nothing that tells me the Eagles will be in this game.

I would say one side is speculating quite a bit more than the other.

1) He cleared the concussion protocol.

2) There have been no reports of lingering effects.

Before trading for him, the Colts should have (and may have) insisted on cognitive and neurological testing as part of Wentz's physical, and compared the results to his base line test.

They would have access to all of his medical records as part of the trade too.

RTK is telling you, and his word should be worth its weight in gold -- if he or gold was weightless

People act like Carson didn't hold onto the ball too long, fumble, and make poor decisions before the concussion.

He literally turned away from a screen play and tried scrambling on a clear broken play that led to his concussion. That play is Wentz in a nutshell. Just throw the ball into the dirt there. He doesn't have a good feel for the game. Every play has the highest level of intensity with him.

Sure.   Except there is that giant area of CTE that offers very little information as to how it all works.  There have been no reports of a lot of players with CTE's lingering effects... until its too late.  Ultimately, there's not a lot of information out there about CTE.

I guess this will be my reasoning for every player regressing.

That’s now my defense for Jalen Reagor being a bust.

I had a very vivid dream last night I was doing the Griddy. I don't know why. I assume some sort of Jalen Reagor related trauma.

If he had a documented concussion, I guess you could.   I'm not saying that is what happened with Carson or not.   But, acting like we actually understand concussions to the level that we do ACL injuries, Achilles injuries, etc. is a bit of an overstatement.  That's all I'm saying.

I think Wentz' bigger issue is that he learned at NDSU to escape pressure and make plays against weaker competition... he got away with it in 2017 to great fanfare... and then the ACL happened.  Then he lost some mobility, and things haven't really worked out as well since.  But 2017 was a really fun ride, and I'll always have that to look back on and smile.  And when he comes back to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of that Super Bowl in a few years... I hope that folks can get past their hatred of him.

He hasn't been the same since.  His recognition and processing aren't what they used to be.

I doubt the concussion has had the effect you’re describing. I think it’s looking for excuses for why he hasn’t been the same, and the fact of the matter is 2017 is the outlier.

For the record, IP, this is the jumping off point for me in this conversation.

Conn is assigning blame for his regression in those areas to the concussion (I don’t think any of us could actually determine his processing or recognition). I said I doubt it. Of course it’s in the realm of possibility, but for a lot of reasons, Wentz is basically who he’s been from 2018-2021.
