If he had a documented concussion, I guess you could.   I'm not saying that is what happened with Carson or not.   But, acting like we actually understand concussions to the level that we do ACL injuries, Achilles injuries, etc. is a bit of an overstatement.  That's all I'm saying.

I think Wentz' bigger issue is that he learned at NDSU to escape pressure and make plays against weaker competition... he got away with it in 2017 to great fanfare... and then the ACL happened.  Then he lost some mobility, and things haven't really worked out as well since.  But 2017 was a really fun ride, and I'll always have that to look back on and smile.  And when he comes back to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of that Super Bowl in a few years... I hope that folks can get past their hatred of him.

Well we agree. I think there are many issues for his decline in play from 2017, and I don’t "think” the concussion is one of them, and I wouldn’t say with certainty that it is a driving force.

For the record, IP, this is the jumping off point for n this conversation.

Conn is assigning blame for his regression in those areas to the concussion (I don’t think any of us could actually determine his processing or recognition). I said I doubt it. Of course it’s in the realm of possibility, but for a lot of reasons, Wentz is basically who he’s been from 2018-2021.

I don't disagree.   It might be.  I might not be.  I think he's regressed from who he was in 2018 and 2019... which was a regression from who he was in 2017.   In 2018 and 2019 I think he was still the same guy in his own head that he was in 2017, but the legs didn't respond the same way.  And in 2020 and 2021, I think we saw a greater regression...  and its very plausible the concussion in that game could have been a catalyst, if not a cause.

None of that matters anymore though.  He's gone and he's not coming back.  There's a lot of vitriol over him that I just don't understand though.

I don't think there's a lot of vitroil, outside of a few people. He handled things badly, which doesn't look good at his age.

I think he was pretty much the same QB as 2018 and 2019 this year, the finish was bad, but the overall season was similar. An issue is that his tall frame and tendency to run high sets him up for big hits, and he may have been hurting more than was revealed by the end of the season. That would explain the "stiffness" people have noted, and the decline in accuracy. But that also suggests he won't age well.

What did he handle badly?

For all you thinking run game and low scoring game for this weekend, just posted this in another thread after doing a little research.

Tampa scored 30+ points in all 4 playoff games last year.  Brady has scored 30+ in 11 of his last 14 playoff games.

Eagles are going to have to score 30 points to win on Sunday.

Even with the Dallas "joke" game, Eagles ended 18th in points allowed, 8th in yards per play, 16th in NY/A, 5th in yards per attempt.

Year before, 20th in points allowed (33 more), 14th in yards per play, 20th in NY/A, 10th in yards per attempt.

Faced a similar schedule both years - Gannon substantially improved the defense with basically the same talent as Schwartz.

I would say one side is speculating quite a bit more than the other.

1) He cleared the concussion protocol.

2) There have been no reports of lingering effects.

I don't think it's necessarily speculation.  We know he had a concussion and he his worst season after that concussion.  Being cleared to play isn't necessarily evidence as to whether there isn't a long term effect from the headache.  It means he is not symptomatic and that he passed baseline testing.  I mean he could not play if there were reports of lingering symptoms.  I do think there's plenty of medical evidence that there are long-term executive functioning impairments for athletes that suffer concussions. That's not speculation. His play in 2020 was a significant drop off from even past years of mediocre play.  His play this season wasn't that different than 2019.  It would be hard to say that this season looks much different from that one but for the yards passing.

Afan agrees with me that it's unlikely Tampa will score in the double digits because of Gannon.

I would argue he and his agent handled things extremely well.

He kept any discord out of the public view, he remained silent on any ill feelings even in interviews after he left, never said a bad word about Doug, Howie, Lurie or anyone else in the organization, and most of all was able to have his agent orchestrate a trade to his preferred landing spot.

The alternative was to go back to the organization he didn't trust, which had already replaced him with another starting QB.

I think there are a lot of reasons for 2020’s implosion, and many of them extend beyond Wentz.

Yeah it seems like a real long shot that he returns.

I mean the owner, coach, and GM have all publicly refused to commit to his future.

We won that trade going away.

I'm not sure how any NFL GM still talks themselves in to trading the Eagles for a QB.

100%.  Just in the last 15 years.  Feeley for a second ,  McNabb for a second and a fourth,  Kolb for a second and DRC and Wentz for a first and a third.    Pretty nifty.  Also we did manage to get Foles using one of those fourth round picks from the skins... good stuff 🙂

I don't understand why they did it so early either.  Also seems like they went overkill with it.

I see that Tankathon has the Eagles taking Ojabo, Dean, and Drake London in their mock draft.  I watched some Drake London highlights, and wow -- Do Not Want.

That guy pushes off every-single-time to get separation.  Might work against kids, but it won't work against men.

Then that’ll be Howie’s guy!

After watching this, I am convinced Brian Flores is going to Houston.

Wentz’ issues started well before the concussion.
