I like Wilson, but you're essentially saying he's an elite route runner because he's not a plus athlete.

I have seen some scouts use the dreaded "Slot" term when describing his transition to the pros.

Maybe so. I made that mistake with Jefferson. I don’t think he’ll be that elite kind of player in the pros, but I think they were similar prospects coming out.

I think you’re underselling his athleticism. He is really fluid and has really good body control too.

He was left off the initial pro bowl voting and was later added. This would be his very first pro bowl year at age 29, so it's not like he's a perennial first ballot pro bowler.  If we can talk about using a 1st on a LB then there's no reason why we can't contemplate a FA signing. Both are a bit far fetched.

Age 29???

Dude just made All pro and is 29 he's going to be looking for a pay day for his likely last contract.

Though teams could balk at the idea if paying a 29 year old LB big money and eagles could get him for cheaper 🤷‍♂️

My ideal LB is big and fast, and goes and attacks OL and sheds them to make a tackle. Thats why I fought for Kuechly when people said he wasnt athletic, and why I loved LVE so much when a lot of people were slow to come around on him too.

There arent a lot of LBs like them in any draft. These little guys who run around blocks have become athletic enough to actually have success.

I havent watched Dean closely. I dont have a feeling specifically on him yet one way or the other. But Im past the point of knocking LBs for size and being run around guys because thats the new way the position is played. And Ill still look for stack and shedders. But I dont expect to find many who will be athletic enough to be 3 down LBs anymore.

Height matters at LB where they are expected to cover TEs that are 6’4”+.

Good for him, Watson can lead us to a Superbowl.

Watson’s legal team tried to reach a settlement with his 22 accusers before the trade deadline and were unsuccessful.  Reports are they are redoubling those efforts now.  He’s insisting on a strict NDA to be signed by his accusers, which is unlikely to happen.  There’s more money in it for them to tell their stories than the 5 or 6 figures Watson is offering them, plus the NDA basically stipulates they agree Watson did nothing wrong.

There are also 10 criminal complaints that are due to be handed over to a grand jury soon.  Both of these are immense hurdles to clear.  It’s already mid January and the draft is coming up in April.  If the civil trial proceeds depositions don’t even begin until late February.

If any trade is to happen by late April then Watson is going to have to pony up some serious coin to settle, in the millions — and that’s making the huge assumption these civil suits are just a money grab.

How could you forget his stupid bow ties and banjo dance?

Sydney was a calculated risk given the injury history

Yup. He’s been an O-line coach since 93, and you don’t hear a peep about him wanting something more. Just how he loves teaching O-line. He’s like Jim Johnson in a way.

He has been the run game coordinator for a couple of years now.

Unless something changed, I think you have that backwards. There was a settlement proposed but Watson didn’t want to settle and he was also adamant against a NDA.

I had a friend who was a huge Giants fan. When the Eagles signed Dhani Jones, he gave me the scouting report that "Jones is always there, you see him on the field, yet he never makes any plays." After he was with the Eagles a couple of years, I commended him for his excellent report. It was spot on. Jones was about as productive a player as Ryan Kerrigan has been this year. We see Kerrigan line up. We see Kerrigan rush the passer. Yet we never see him actually do anything. That's what Dhani Jones was like as an NFL linebacker.

Yes but as an extension of his primary job of O-line. What I meant was you never hear about him wanting to be an OC, run an entire offense, call plays, etc.

Their defensive rosters?

Frankly, I doubt we lose Gannon quite this quick.  Suspect Howie throws him a bone and hires Zimmer as a consultant.

All pro. Not pro bowl. He is 1st team all pro. That's better than pro bowl.

Agreed.  Just playing devils advocate.

I hear ya Mike. Can you imagine if we were going into TB this Sunday with Watson under Center? We'd be pumping our chest and foaming at the mouth thinking of taking down the GOAT.

I appreciate Hurts for all he's done this year, he helped stabilize us from a disaster of a year, and has helped change the perception of the Eagles back to being a functioning franchise around the league.

But his limitations are evident, and ultimately fatal if championship contention is our goal.

So as much as I like the kid and root for him, if given a chance to get a QB of Watson's caliber and age? It's a no-brainer.

Eagles should be much more attractive of a landing spot compared to last off-season.

Agreed. The best O-Line and running game in the league, emerging franchise WR paired with a beast of a TE, and a good offensive minded Head Coach.

We have done quite a turn around from the dumpster fire of last year, just need a franchise QB and a functioning WR2 to take this offense to the next level.

I think Burks ends up being drafted 30 -45 range .

a few mid round guys I lik

Christian Watson

Keataon Thompson  , stats aren’t what they could be , VA had a cpl nice TEs and a WO

Jalen Tolbert

Wan dale Robinson

They are a dumpster fire, and don't have the assets.

We have the better coach, O-Line, division, market etc.

I’m not disagreeing with anything you just said. I don’t want him. I’d rather build the defense, bring in a good veteran receiver, and keep the small Hurts contract for now.

Watson has 1 playoff win, latest record of 4-12, hasn’t played in a year, and his problems most likely won’t be solved by the draft.

Definitely don’t have it backwards.  The articles I read indicate the settlement agreement offered by Watson’s side include non-disclosure and non-disparaging clauses — meaning they’re forbidden from even discussing the other party going forward — in verbal or written forum

Is no one juiced up for the playoffs ?   Might be the least buzz on the board for a playoff game since I joined 15+ years ago.

For me it's hard to get excited when it's very likely we lose this game before half time. This team didn't exactly inspire a ton of confidence down the stretch despite winning most of their games against crap teams. They had a terrible loss against the giants and an awful first half against WFT.

Every time they've played a legitimate offense they've given up 25+ points.

We have a QB that can't throw, and if it is supposed to be raining they're going to be stacking the box even more. The bucs have linebackers fast enough to spy hurts, I doubt he has a lot of running room.

All that said, I will be watching and praying they can pull it off. I just don't expect it to even be close

That could say a lot more about the coach than the people saying/not saying it.  Maybe he’s a lifer O line coach and has no desire to elevate into an OC or HC job. Just because someone is a good position coach doesn’t mean they want to be something more or would be good at a higher position.

Oh I get that but just something I had been thinking about.

Yea I think at some point his attorney said he wasn't going to sign any NDAs but then his legal team was sending them to the women so I guess they changed their minds.

1000% yes.

What are people's thoughts on Jordan Davis?  DT should be a position of need and the big fella will probably be available in the second half of the first.  Don't seem him in a lot of mocks though.
