I'm not going to pretend when it comes to Dawk that I can be impartial.  Easely I can allow to be in that conversation.  I just always saw Kam as an in-box SS.  He couldn't cover half the field as a FS, let alone be the lone high safety.   Dawkins was every bit of that as a FS, but hit like a LB and could play in the box and even man up on WRs when called upon.  True swiss army knife safety.  Kam didn't have that versatility, nor Reed, nor Polamalu.  That's why to me, Dawk is the top... because he reinvented (or more exactly, Jim Johnson reinvented with him) the safety position.  Reed was almost exclusively the centerfielder.  Polamalu almost always SS (when he knew what he was doing).

I made that list from an impartial standpoint...Dawk certainly holds a special place in my heart, but I'm forever scarred by his attempt to kill Fitz instead of just tackling him amongst other playoff appearances.  Dawk revolutionized the game, but athletes like him are few and far between.  I was more trying to draw the link between people discrediting how good Adams actually is.  I'd love to call Dawk the GOAT, but I view him like I do Peyton sometimes...WTF are you doing when the playoffs come?  Blasphemy?  Yea probably...he's certainly in there as one of the GOATs.  Honestly that list is Easely and then pick em.

Considine did carve out a nice career for himself...he was nothing more than a 3rd S and a top ST player though.

@Iggles_Phan I do have to add as well, JJ reinventing things...the job JJ did hiding Dawk's age his last 3 years in Philly as well.  Dawk was pretty much cooked his last 2 years here.  That man really did some amazing things...until the playoffs lol.  Dawks best game as an Eagle was 44-6 game, and Dawk was a SAM at that point.

Nope... its Dawk 100%.   Completely partial and unapologetic.   There are very few players I'd go to see enshrined into the HoF.  It wasn't even a question for me to go for Dawkins.  And he did not disappoint.  Granted... he wasn't perfect.

But, if you want to talk about playoff impact.... what exactly did Easley do?  3 seasons, minimal impact.  If we are knocking Dawkins for what happened in the playoffs, then we have to ask where Easley was.  And longevity counts for something.  7 years is nothing to sneeze at, but it pales compared to Dawkins' tenure.    Dawkins = GOAT (completely biased and I don't care a bit!)

The discussion of safety play is certainly a change of pace from the spirited cheese debate of yesterday:

Yes, he did.  JJ was a great DC, and he needed Dawkins on the field, for his leadership.   Dawkins was the heart and soul of that team, and frankly, the greatest mistake they made with Dawkins was letting him walk.  Yes, he was shell of the player he once was at that point, but he was respected like no one else in that locker room.  With the passing of JJ that same year (they knew how critical JJ's health was), it would have been a much easier transition to Sean McDermott as the DC if Dawkins had been there, because we know he would have had Sean's back.  As it turned out, no one did and he was quickly dismissed because of it.  And to me, that was the reason the house of cards with Reid came crashing down.  They turned to Washburn, who only wanted to be a reckless DL line coach, not a DC, and then went to Castillo when it seemed no legit DC wanted anything to do with Washburn.

They should have paid whatever they needed to keep Dawkins and maintain that respect through the transition to McDermott.  Would have been a much different ending to Reid's tenure if they had.  The money was secondary at that time, it was more about what Dawkins brought to the locker room than the field, but it would have translated in some tangible way.

IMO , Houston  and Reed were top 2 safeties , Lott would be close  too

I've always wondered how rated Troy Polamalu would be if he didn't have long hair that stood out to fans.

I will always remember the very loud groan from the crowd when Dawk drilled Crumpler in the nfccg

I asked Alge about the hit. He didn’t want to talk about it. All he said was  "It must have been a good hit, everybody talks about it.”

That’s what I said.  Good.  But not great.

It always frustrated me that because Brian Dawkins didn't have the hair and the misguided missile thing, that some people didn't rate him.

Gators might have the next great QB in Anthony Richardson , not eligible until 2023 , but man is he a talent .

Nate Burleson predicted on NFL.com that Jalen Hurts will account for 5 TDs vs the 49ers (3 passing, 2 rushing) and the Eagles will win to go to 2-0.  TFWIW

i just remembered kerrigan was signed here and never saw him during the game in the rotation but saw he had 35 snaps. i must be blind or he was JAG on the field.

My guess....Sirianni wants the new guys to appreciate that this is their house before the home opener.

Maybe a little campy, but if it provides a sliver of additional motivation/inspiration, then it's a smart move.

Explanation at the beginning of the video.

The 49ers are banged up and we're healthy. The Linc is going to be ROCKING this weekend.

I think we beat the 49ers and we go into the Dallas game 2-0 against the 0-2 Cowboys.

I wonder if Jason Peters congratulated Malaita on his contract.  Not sure if he is salty for him taking his job or if he would be happy for him since he definitatly took on a mentorship of Malaita since he was drafted.

Yup, if the line can keep Hurts clean they can go off.  I think Smith has a day.

Agreed. My bold prediction was him going over 100 receiving yards and the Eagles having 2 50+ yard plays. With their decimated secondary it very well might happen
