Very off topic and random, but I was looking at the 2006 draft recently and it’s insane to me Marcedes Lewis is not only still in the league, but he’s making over $3M a year still. This is the same draft as players like Bunkley, Cutler, Ngata, Young, Jennings and DeMeco Ryans.

Oh and ask me about Jimmy Rollins one day.  I dare you.

The streak is pretty incredible compared with the load management pu$$ies of today.

Amazing right? Good for him cause most will say he never lived up to expectations of being a really good tight end for where he went in that draft (28th overall) but guy has had longevity. Kind of like Ted ginn who had a long career but i wouldn’t say he was ever worthy of being 9th overall pick.

i feel like younger version of teddy ginn could be cordarrelle Patterson. Where he was projected to be really good and went high but has a long career where he just sticks for over a decade

Isn't Mercedes still the only 1st round pick to ever catch a TD pass from Aaron Rodgers?

Polamalu has a defensive MVP to his name. That says something. Polamalu was not overrated. He was a great player as was Dawk.

Seems like awarding a guy defensive player of the year when he shouldn’t have been awarded is the very definition of overrated.

Polamalu had 49 solo tackles in 2010 when he got DPOY.  There were two other strong safeties that season with 96 each.  Polamalu had 7 INT for 101 yards that year — Ed Reed had 8 for 183 yards, despite only playing in ten games.

So, in Polumalu’s best season, he made 1/2 as many tackles as other league leading safeties, and almost had as many INT as Ed Reed, who played just over half the games.

If there was a stat for how many plays being way out of position, I grant you Polamalu would have been the league leader — but that’s not a good category

I heard his name called in Packers game last week & I had no idea he was still in the league.

I didn't say he was overrated or that he wasn't a great player. Dawkins was always better and the people would make it out as if Troy was the best safety in football by a landslide. It has always been a joke.

For their careers Dawkins had:

5 more interceptions

46 more passes broken up

22 more forced fumbles

14 more sacks

364 more tackles

3 more TFL

5 more QB hits

Again, laughable to say Troy was better. I get that Dawkins played longer, but that is also a feather in his cap.

Polamalu was a great safety, but it's really not close. Had he played longer it would've been more of an argument.

Greatest Philly sports stars ever…

Dawkins is my favorite Eagle of all time, or at the very least one of. Bias aside, it's laughable that people say Polamalu was better.

It's not laughable at all - it's very debatable ..

Dawkins played 16 seasons 224 G of possible 256 (87.5 %) - 221 GS ... 1147 tackles (71.69 yearly avg). 911 solo / 26 Sks and 59 TFL / 153 PD / 37 INTs 2 TDs / 36 ff 1 TD

Polamalu played 12 seasons 158 G of possible 192 (82.3%) - 142 GS ... 783 tackles (65.25 yearly avg). 583 solo / 12 Sks and 56 TFL / 107 PD / 32 INTs 3 TDs / 14 ff 2 TD

I know anyone can look up the stats but I think it helps to have a direct comparison. When you consider the games played the INTs and TFL really jump out in Polamalu's favor.

But overall -

Dawkins 5.12 Tkls per game - Polamalu 4.96 ... Dawkins 0.116 Scks pg - Polamalu 0.015 ... Dawkins 0.683 PD pg - Polamalu 0.677 ... Dawkins 0.16 FF pg - Polamalu 0.089

I would take Dawkins - he played longer with a higher availability rate and IMO a consistently higher level. But I'm an Eagles fan - I'm biased. I could certainly see why Steelers fans would choose Polamalu.

To say "bias aside" is ridiculous. Of course you're biased. You can't help it - and that's ok.

This is such a good and thoughtful response.

Polamalu was banged up for long stretches at the end of his career. When he wasn’t right, he was close to pedestrian. However, when he was healthy he changed the entire game from the safety spot. That’s almost impossible.

I watched both throughout their entire careers. IMO, Polamalu’s absolute peak is better than Dawkins. However, Dawkins brought it game-after-game, year-after-year, was more consistent, and made fewer errors.

Both men were gifts to their teams and cities and both are deserved HOFers.

The consistent story line here in Northern California is that the 49ers have had problems with mobile QBs during the Robert Saleh Defensive Coordinator years.  If that is indeed true, then it won't be only the O-Line that keeps Hurts clean ... his mobility may well be just as much of a factor in keeping him clean.

Just watching the battles between the 49ers two DEs Nick Bosa and Dee Ford and Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata are going to be worth the price of the game ticket.

So pleased to see you. 😍

I wont be around for tomorrows game. So posting during the game, about the game in here will be prohibited. Stick to the youtube live chat only.

Ill be working at a stupid youth football game instead.

I will try to watch when I get home unless the result is too stomach churning. Should be able to resume posting about the game around 9pm or so.

Scouting the youth again this year.  So nice of you to make that sacrifice.

I'm really, really, really excited for this game. It will give us a much better idea of who we are. Are we actually a pretty good football team or did we just beat on an extremely bad ATL team? Lets find out...
