Barnett has been an adequate starter for most of his career with the notable exception of becoming a genuine liability who walks the offense forward further and more often than he drags them back.

This is fair.

I don't want Barnett back either. It's just unfair to compare arguably the worst draft pick in Eagles history to a player who has had big moments.

Well if we are going to compare it to Hurts…there is no comparison…Brady still has a lot of green beyond the LOS.

But when you drop Hurts from the equation…this is a problem for Brady.  He’s dinking and dunking more than ever.  He’s not an elite QB anymore.  That worked against our defense, which is content to relentlessly allow 5-7 yard passes en route to the end zone.  But it’s not going to fly against real playoff teams.  This won’t work for them unless they luck into a low scoring game.  They are going to get torched in a high scoring affair with Brady under center.  It’s all mystique and accurate dunks at this point.

But that is the reality of what we saw today.   Their defense was tight. Healthy for the first time today at LB.  JPP was owning Mailata, who struggled with his speed on bull rushes.  The DTs were killing it against Opeta.  Defense wins in the playoffs and the Eagles D is just undermanned.  The Bucs OL is significant.

Blaiming Gannon, like many do in here, is misguided.  He got more with virtually the same players that Schwartz had last year.   He needs some horses.

What’s amazing about Derek Barnett, Jalen Reagor and JJAW Is I usually don’t hate players on my own team. I might get frustrated with them and I might have some grievances with them. But legitimately those three i absolutely hate.

Reagor isn't even the worst pick in Eagles history, unfortunately. You could easily argue Danny Watkins, or Marcus Smith for recent examples. But he's up there.

New ITB is worth a listen...they wore out this whole team, especially Hurts.

Huge inflection point type of offseason

Eagles need to start making decisions based on on-field play and not saving face for the FO

Free Agents
Unrestricted: Genard Avery, Derek Barnett, Anthony Harris, Jordan Howard, Jason Kelce, Ryan Kerrigan, Rodney McLeod, Steven Nelson, Hassan Ridgeway
Restricted: Andre Chachere (ERFA), Jason Croom, Nate Herbig, Boston Scott, Alex Singleton, Brett Toth, Greg Ward Jr.

Was busy typing up my post when you posted this.  Does Kelce count as a FA, I couldn't figure that out.

Based on the roles of 95% of these players and their talent levels, they can and should be replaced by draft picks letting you take advantage of rookie contracts rather than 2nd contracts.

Easily one of the most overblown and overused talking points, with zero proof.  It's like saying a fat girl has a good personality.

There's a ton of nice young men in the NFL.

There’s zero proof? But you’re exactly right, it IS the equivalent of a fat chick with a great personality.

I don't really hate JJAW, he's just sort of irrelevant to me. Which might be worse haha. But yeah, Barnett makes me seethe with anger, and yesterday was the final straw for Reagor for me. Good riddance to all 3.

My thoughts on Carr:

Would not be the longterm answer, but would give us a QB who is close to an equal of what Dak provides in Dallas, and Sadly Dak is the best QB in the division.

Again, not the long term answer, but a pretty good upgrade over what we have.

The issue is the raiders aren’t just going to give him away. If Carson Wentz got a first round pick and third round pick coming off a terrible year what do you think the Raiders are gonna ask for Derek Carr? I think the market will have multiple teams and you’re gonna have to give up more than what you are willing to do for just a bridge quarterback. Frankly i believe you are gonna have to give Derek Carr a new contract once you make that trade. Because I can’t see you giving up the type of draft capital just have a guy on a one-year contract and walk the following year

so unless you believe Derek Carr can take you where you want to go I believe the requisite draft capital that you need to give up to acquire him is going to be more than what you’re willing to pay.

Other than Slay, who from our defense would have been starting for the Bucs yesterday?

LOL I didn't notice. oopppsss.  I would take Carr as a stop gap.

Agreed. Less information since Sirianni took over (due to new coaching staff) + more arrogance = nogo.

Was it his the situation is still fluid or was it the I was told that but I couldn’t say anything to you guys after the fact comments he always makes? Or the constant boasting that they have the best podcast out there?

I would 100% take Derek Carr on this team. He'd immediately open massive parts of a playbook that will always be inaccessible to Hurts... which are:

1. Throws over the middle of the field.
2. Throws down the field.
3. Back shoulder throws.
4. Tight window throws.
5. Throws to the left side of the field.
6. Anticipation/timing throws.

Yeah, you'd have to live with the inconsistency every few games but he'd immediately make this team, with 3 incoming first round picks, a team that would challenge for the NFC title.

Zero proof that Hurts has better intangibles than Wentz.  That is exactly right.  Just speaking it into existence doesn't make it so.  Tell me how great of a kid Hurts is again.  And yeah, that Wentz.  He was a dirtball.

This is incredibly unfair to Barnett. Barnett has been productive throughout his career.

Reagor is the worst WR in the NFL.

Barnett has been as much a liability with his penalties as he has been an asset as a productive player.

Basically any sentence with the word "throws" in it.

I wouldn’t despise it but I don’t think it’s the route you want to go. In order to get their carr you’re gonna have to give up assets. I don’t think the assets required to get him are going to be worth him being a bridge quarterback. I do not see the Raiders just releasing him.

The other issue in just making him a bridge quarterback is he is highly likely gonna get you stuck in a position where you’re not gonna be picking high enough to get the quarterback you truly covet and youre going to have to trade for the quarterback again which means giving up assets once again to solve the position.  If you make that trade for Carr it is really unlikely you’re gonna be bad enough to be picking high enough to just select the QB you truly covet. Which means you’re giving up asses for Derek Carr and then additional assets to just get your quarterback after Derek Carr. How many assets are you willing to give up in order to get your quarterback?

if we were going to go with a bridge quarterback in 2022 that’s not Jalen hurts then I’m just gonna go with minshew. We already gave up a sixth round pick for him so you don’t have to give up any more assets. Additionally I think it’s gonna be tougher to maneuver up the draft and in future years with less assets than what we have in 2022 to trade for the quarterback. I think the Carson Wentz trade skews how some are thinking that they’re just gonna be able to move up to get the quarterback they want. That was a unique draft where there was enough teams that did not believe in Jared Goff and Carson Wentz so the Eagles could maneuver up and they loved Carson Wentz. They might have the situation they ran into this year where they were trying to move up from six to get high enough to try to take Zack Wilson and they ultimately couldn’t pull it off due to circumstances outside of their control

This is exactly how I feel.

Add the fact that he's a stat compiling loser and always has been.

Yes.

What would be the goal of bringing Carr in here? To be a bridge QB until the Eagles can find one in 2023?  Or do you anticipate Carr would be here longer until they can find a "Franchise" QB?

If you keep Hurts on the team, you are accomplishing the same thing except you have spent zero additional resources to do so.

I can understand being frustrated with Hurts and knowing he isn't the long term answer, but you would be spending resources to acquire someone that is going to give you similar results. Plus, if Carr is a significant upgrade over Hurts (which I believe he is), you put the team in a "worse"  draft slot to go and get a top QB prospect.

Of the Eagles upcoming FA, what do you all want to see done?  I'm not sure any of these players are priorities to bring back.  Chachere, being an EFRA, should be brought back and was a core ST player.  Steve Nelson had a quiet but good season.  What does it take to bring him back?  Howie has proven that he has no clue how to draft CB even though there are going to be some good players available in round 1.  The rest of these players can be, and should be upgraded.

Jordan Howard UFA - vet minimum

Nate Herbig RFA - resigned

Alex Singleton RFA - wait until after the draft and decide what to do with him after that

Greg Ward RFA - Time to move on, consider bringing him back post-draft

Genard Avery UFA - let him test the market

Hassan Ridgeway UFA - Good depth, but not a guy that they can afford to overpay - test the market as well

Boston Scott RFA - again... let this go until after the draft to find out what happens there

Jason Croom UFA - bye

Andre Chachere ERFA - retain

Steve Nelson UFA - bye

Rodney McLeod UFA - thanks, but goodbye

Derek Barnett UFA - don't let the door hit you on the way out

Ryan Kerrigan UFA - was he ever really here?

Anthony Harris UFA - bye

Some of the 'byes' might need to be brought back after the draft if the draft doesn't go well, but I don't see many of them having a big market.

I don’t even think he’s good fit for this D. Can’t win quick from the outside - not built for the 4i.  Basically, a guy who can get effort sacks if the DTs get a really good push up the middle and the backend holds up.
