And when/if he does, he will cost a lot more. That’s how it works.

You can practice patience and prudence all day from a keyboard, but it changes dramatically when you have to sign guys to deals, and it’s your livelihood on the line.

Well, we know how accountable Howie is, don't we?

I didn't say it was a bad contract.   I said it was too early for that number.   Yes, if he plays up to the hope that many have for him, then it might be 'an absolute steal'.  Meanwhile, if he is what he has been, it will be an overpay.  If he gets injured, it's an overpay.   He can't command 'market value', when he's not on the market.  And the Eagles rolled the dice on this one.  The odds may be 40-60 against... it might be 20-80 or 60-40... but this isn't a slam dunk.  There's inherent risk (more than normal) for this, because at this point in the process, the Eagles were bidding against themselves.  And Sweat does have a knee history.  Will the knee hold up if he's used for more snaps, as a contract like this would necessitate?  That remains to be seen.

Sweat has never been a starting DE in the NFL, but he was just paid like he's not just a starter, but a top half starter in the NFL.
For reference...

You have to assume some risk with players when extending them. You have to offer enough to get them to sign and forego FA.

Do I think Sweat has earned a contract worth what he signed for based on previous performance? Nah. But we’re signing him based on our projection over the next 4 years.

Let’s say Sweat has a big year and plays up to a $13M a year deal, we’ll, he’d be so close to FA that he wouldn’t sign for $13M. Then it’s more like $17M. Possibly even more if he decides to test FA.

See above.

Lol

Not many QBs can do this , Richardson has all the ability in the world  , future star , I was hoping he would have started against bama .

I'd rather pay $17M for a guy that I know can produce at that level than roll the dice on a guy and get stuck holding the bag.  This team has a recent history of a lot of poorly structured and poorly evaluated contract extensions.  This one is far less egregious than others, but there's more risk than I would be willing to take at this time.

Alshon Jeffery, Malik Jackson, Desean Jackson, Darius Slay are all guys that were recently overpaid for their value, due to the team giving them contract extensions that likely weren't warranted.  Brandon Brooks and Lane Johnson were given mega-deals two full years before they were due to hit free agency.

All I'm saying is... let Sweat play a few more games this year before putting ink to paper on this extension.  Let him play more snaps and see how the knee holds up, let him actually produce at a slightly higher level... and then, maybe you do have to knock that number higher... or maybe make it less guaranteed money and more incentive-laden with higher overall payouts if he meets them.  I hope he proves himself to be worth this and much more... but I think that this was too much guaranteed money, too soon for a player that is currently more 'projection' than he is 'production'... and going into year 4.    There's risk in signing any player.  I just think the risk here was higher than the potential savings in locking him up now.   That's it.

I'm not sure if I would have done these deals yet. I certainly see the upside in doing them now, and you have to consider that they might not be Eagles at all if you wait.

I’m confused. (I know, right).  Is that just being used as a chat (text) room?  Or are people able to actually speak live on that thing.

I could be wrong but I think the goal is to make money for the board off of youtube. You know how you hear about these millionaires from youtube?

Here's the full play of the INT in the Oklahoma/Nebraska game.  OU/NU just looks the way college football should.

Oh, and Gus Johnson just brings so much energy.

An amazingly athletic and stupid play at the same time. Situational awareness. Never pick off a pass on 4th down unless you have a clear path to the endzone.

Gators playing bama tough

Sure are.  Emory Jones is an impressive QB.  He's a guy I'd have my eyes on if I were the Eagles.  If Hurts is the guy, Jones could be a great backup.

So take him 2nd round?

haha yep! In all seriousness though, I thought Jones might be a decent starter in the NFL but the more I watch him and his style, I think he's built to be a high end backup.

Gators best QB isn’t playing , IMO Richardson the better QB , and the next top QB , rs freshman , so still has another year .

I’m not a fan of Jones , doesn’t have a big arm , and really raw still , I don’t see a nfl starter

Bs flags on gators

2 drives in a row bama gets the flag in their favor

Very interested to see his snap count this year vs last. Jumped from 38% last year to 54% week 1 so clearly the team wasn't just talking when it said they wanted to play him more in the preseason.

There was a 2nd test chat on youtube, yesterday. It has 11 views. 4 likes. 3 comments. We have over 1400 members on this EMB.

Lets pad those stats guys. This could be something very helpful for the sustainability of the EMB, and it costs us nothing. Even if you dont go let that video play for a half hour, which I am doing in a separate tab while I type this, leaving a like and a comment will take about 5 seconds. We need to do our part to help boost the popularity of these videos so youtube begins recommending them. The more they get recommended, the more money they can make for the boards. It can also help drive traffic to our site as well. So also more from adsense, and possibly the affiliate links too.

Didn’t realize I could run it any time.  Running now.  Subscribed and added like and a comment. Pretty easy to do.  Even able to use my name from in here. Now I viewed the day is was set up so does this get counted as a separate view by YouTube?

I'm happy with the contracts. More than likely, I think they'll outplay them and they'll look like bargains.

That is how I feel as well.  Definitely more of a measuring stick than the Atlanta game.  I'm really looking forward to watching Lane and Jordan battle Nick Bosa and Dee Ford.

One question I have is whether Slay will follow Samuel from side to side.

I'm really, really, really excited for this game. It will give us a much better idea of who we are. Are we actually a pretty good football team or did we just beat on an extremely bad ATL team? Lets find out...

Yea I agree completely.  I’m not saying we suck if we lose or that the stench of 2020 is gone and the window is open with a win.  But this game really sets the narrative.  A decisive win and it’s tough to doubt them…do they even become division favorites?  A decisive loss and then they just beat one of the worst teams in the nfl last week and are back to being an underdog in nearly every matchup all year.
