So officiating huh?

I still lean towards INT, but in the college game thats a lot closer to a catch than it would be in the NFL.

You have to remember the rules, that the college kid is down as soon as his knee hits the ground. At the time the ball is in his hands, the defender only has 1 hand in there, and the WRs knees are down. Hes down before the defender takes the ball away.

Now, you can still argue that WR never really had control. But if the tie goes to the offense, that DB also didnt have control till after you could argue the WR was down.

Its bad all over.

In other news... I don't think that was targeting on Auburn.

I agree and I'm a PSU fan. Targeting is one of the worst rules to infect college football in recent years. Guys are going 100mph and if you graze a helmet, they throw you out of the game.

Nix is only 16/26 and 150 yards. The average yardage for him is 5.4 yards. Its like he is throwing to a bunch of Greg Wards. Didnt turn out to be such a good game for him.

He might have some arm talent and a lot of athleticism, but hes looking far from NFL ready as a junior. Hes going to need to come a long way in a senior season. If he declares early I think he will be disappointed in his draft position.

Their hearts were in the right place with the rule... but it's not enforced well.

These short yardage plays are just brutal.

 Franklin.. or whoever calls plays. How many years can they watch this guy cost his team big games? (I know they didnt lose this one, yet anyway. But jesus thats unacceptable in this situation)

Agreed. I’m not sure the best way to do it, but it sure would be nice if they left it for the truly egregious.

I think reviewing it in slow motion is unfair to the defensive player too.

It was Joe Douglas’ draft.

So Howie takes the blame for all the missed draft picks but Joe Douglas gets credit for the hits.  Classic Tate.

It was a joke. Aimed at HE.

Auburn needs to run a double move on #5 in the PSU secondary. Despite Auburn having hardly any passing yards, hes been beat like a drum all night on double moves.

So much for that Clemson qb lol

thats a real nice win for Penn State.

Still bad.  Used your top pick on a TE when we had a prime Ertz.  Lucked into Mailata being serviceable to good, hopefully great.  Still more to see on Sweat.  Just because they dumped money on Sweat and Mailata this week doesn’t mean they have shown to deserve it and it doesn’t make it was a good draft.   But you wouldn’t understand that.  We traded draft picks for Ajayi, Darby and Wentz in that draft.  So we had a total of 5 pics. So yeah. Not a good draft.  But by Lowie’s standards, I can understand why you’re keying on it.  Maybe.

31 other teams had a chance to take Mailata, but the Eagles were smart enough to bet on the raw tools — even if it was a long shot.

You can’t completely dismiss it just because.

That doesn’t even get to Goedert being a top-10 TE. Maddox in the fourth is solid value. Sweat is great value in round 4. There is no possible way anyone can objectively call that bad.

I don't know anything about him aside from his apparently prototypical frame and talent, but he probably deserves 2-3 games to shake off the pressure of filling Trevor Lawrence's shoes.

4 out of 5 are starters (or significant play time players) . 3 of which could likely start for the Eagles at a high level for the next decade.  "Bad draft”.  Do you even read what you type or actually think about what you type before your post it?

Looks good so far. I was very critical of the class with the limited picks we had. Mailata was one hell of a pick. I've always been a big Barrett fan but Sweat has been healthier and more reliable. Hopefully Goedert is next. I don't see Maddox on this team next season. We pretty much drafted his successor this past draft imo

I said it in April 2018, in the 2018 season, in 2019, 2020, and will again...

Dallas Goedert was a great TE prospect, will likely be a very good NFL TE that "checks the box" as a good pick...but his selection represented one of the biggest recent steps the franchise took in the wrong direction.

DJ Chark was a science lab prototype Z WR available at that pick (some ups and downs in his career, no one to throw him the ball).  They had recycled trash at Z for a few years at this point.

Instead of accepting the modern day NFL and investing in some speed and deep presence to their offense, they fully committed to 12 personnel by selecting Goedert...and also extended Alshon (first extension), giving them 12 personnel, a #1 WR who was a slow possession guy, and a bargain basemen old veteran as the token outside speed.  We all saw the result play out with that stodgy, slow, congested offense with zero separation.

Goedert himself is not the problem...but selecting him was their first major investment in that failed post-superbowl offense.

Drafting a player in round 2 who developed into a top-10 player at his position is never a problem. Our coaching staff failed to make it work, but the pick was a good one.
