Ahh.  Ok. I’ll have to try that spicy one.

This is the one I’m talking about.

I must of not have been paying attention to the other flavors that came out because when they first hit stores it was just the spicy garlic and standard Buffalo.

Now usually buffalo sauce over powers other flavors it's combined with but, the spicy garlic has a nice garlic finish to it. I'm not a big fan of spicy and I love this.

Little jitterbug kid out of Utah State, got to watch him tonight...he looked every bit of 5'8 couldn't tell weight wise cuz they're playing Air Force, but my god is this kid fast and smooth.  With a decent QB he would have went for 400 tonight.  Reminded me of young Desean, sticks his foot in the ground on a break and just hits 6th gear instantly.

I don't remember the reactions on the old EMB to the Eagles drafting Mailata.  I don't recall any vibes that they were negative.  Myself, I was pleased we took a chance on him.  It surprised me that we did, that we were the ones to roll the dice on the big kid, but I thought it was cool that we did.

IIRC, Stoutland either had something to do with the setup/coaching of the International OL players at that camp in FLA or he was there and got a sneak peak at Mailata.  Thus, the rumour goes that he was banging the table for the Eagles to trade up and draft him instead of waiting to sign him as a UDFA.  And if anyone watched that 15 minute video that shows Mailata's story as he started on the path to entering the NFL International camp, when he does get drafted by the Eagles and they show his phone conversations with both Howie and Stoutland.  He calls Howie "Howie" and not "Mr. Roseman" and the conversation he has with Stoutland makes it seem like they know each other at least a bit and have talked before.  IMO, they had their eye on him and talked with him before the draft and went and got him.  Good work by everyone involved:  Mailata, Stoutland, Howie, etc.

Upon doing a search for that video, I found a link to McLane's recent article on Mailata and this snippet from it:

The Eagles knew they would have competition for Jordan Mailata as the seventh round of the 2018 NFL draft unfolded. They had identified four other teams that could have interest in the Australian rugby player who had never played American football.

But Jeff Stoutland was fixated on the Steelers, who were four spots ahead of the Eagles, and for two reasons:

  • They were the only other team that had attended the private workout the veteran offensive line coach had conducted in March.

  • And they were the only team of the five that had the roster exemption the league allowed for one international player.

Stoutland relayed this information to Howie Roseman. But to be safe and to account for other possible suitors, the Eagles general manager traded up 17 spots to land Mailata. Stoutland’s instinct, just like his evaluation of the mammoth would-be tackle, proved to be correct.

"I later talked to the [Steelers] coach,” Stoutland said, "and he goes, ‘Son of a ****!’”

"I think every team was trying to find out, ‘Who is this guy? What’s he all about?’ Is he really any of these things?’” Stoutland said to The Inquirer. "But they missed out on the workout.

"I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t done that workout. I’m so thankful I went there because I was really blown away.”

Credit to Brandon Brown, at the time the Eagles assistant director of pro scouting, who was the one to initially meet with Mailata, talk to him, watch him do the 'combine' drills (which would have put Mailata in the top 5 of OL in that draft class), and then convince the FO to keep an eye on this kid.

Either Sweat or Barnett needed to be extended, the Eagles chose upside and high risk/high reward over a guy who's good for a personal foul, blown contain or two and an accidental good play a week.  Barnett didn't pan out to be BG 2.0 as they hoped...it happens.  We can all go back and recount much of a reach the pick was, but it's water under the bridge at this point.  Thanks for the fumble recovery in the SB, see ya later.

Abahahahahahaha.  I knew you were going to bring that dope into the discussion.  He’s your favorite guy.  PFF is constantly misguided with their rankings.  They had Hargrave ranked higher as a pass rusher this past week then the guy who had 5 sacks.

I don’t need a source to know that you don’t justify taking a TE in the 2nd round because of his blocking acumen.  Just as much as I don’t need to celebrate how an offense looked in a practice that no one saw.

Wasnt Goedart about to be drafted by the cowboys? And we got that awesome speech from akers?

Heck, Matt.  You have been around long enough to know some posters, me included, are invested all the way to the bottom rounds and through UDFA.  I suspect some of us thought any inexperienced rugby player would be available in UDFA.  So yeah, probably initial disbelief as the pick was made and then immediately researching the why over the next few days.

Ya and hindsight is 20/20 for us, but based off limited sample this year, the progression, and the most persuasive reason to not risk it is stoutland a unanimous top 5 ol coach begging for the opportunity (my perception of what went down lol) I think it's worth any risk. We have no idea his mentality or willingness to learn but seems we struck gold in all aspects with him. It Will be fun to watch against bosa

I’m taking Eagles 29 SF 14 @LeanMeanGM

Not trying to take away anything from the Eagles, because what they did is what you’re supposed to do against bad teams. Just thought this was interesting.

Def cant say were sb contenders based of Atlanta's performance but cant say we didnt take atl out of the game mentally either. Sf can help us a little bit find out more about our young team in many aspects moving forward

Can the offense score 27+ points versus SF defense?

Can the defense hold SF to less than 21 points?

Regardless of the outcome, those metrics will be interesting and say a lot about the trajectory of the 2021 Eagles.

I suspect the answer is no and no. I think it'll end up 23-16 to the Niners. But I do absolutely think we can win this game so I wouldn't be surprised to see that score reversed.

Hard to say so early but I dont believe the Eagles will hold the 9ers to less than 21 points...I think less than 31 is possible

I do believe we have more than enough talent to score 27+ on a healthy 9era defense let alone a hurt defense that favors us in the matchup department. Turnovers and response to adversity our the 2 keys for the young eagles offense and will decide the outcome

Really do think that Mailata will minimize Bosa, and that the Eagles OL will show up like a Top 5 group. Penalties there will be cut in half, and the run game will be off to the races.

Just hope the Eagles defense starts strong and gets to Garappolo/Lance early. Sermon and Mitchell contained. They hold the keys in my opinion.  Defense gets a few early 3 and outs, and I'd bet the farm Sirianni has a gameplan on offense to punch in some 1st half scores.

Would be nice to kick off and start with a defensive TO.

We didnt need any blitzes against the weak beat up atl oline..but I bet we see quite a few exotic blitzes this week. Early drives, than base through the 2nd quarter..than mix base and some wrinkles in the 3rd..and than based off game flow complete aggression if we are struggling to hold them

Slay, Singleton, Sweat.

One of those 3.

Either cox singleton or Graham is my prediction...

Singleton it is

I've lurked here for years.

Really value the insight from everybody, and the drama and trolls dont bother me a single bit. I get more frustrated when trolls are fed and accurate posts by accurate posters are too righteous to let the obvious go. It can be funny tho.

Anyways been a diehard since 2001 and want to try and contribute a little more this year instead of just reading everything.

I named my dog Pedey after Doug pederson..will always respect Doug, feel like he got crap on a little bit..but was necessary. There was a lot of breakdown in communication and after the superbowl I think pederson wanted more control and less instruction, (reich deserves a lotta credit for the sb, and losing him exposed Doug imo.

We will learn more about this squad in many ways tomorrow, but as of this post I am giddy with optimism for the future of our beloved Philadelphia Eagles...

GO BIRDS!

We stole Dallas from Dallas in Dallas.

Howie’s best pick.

Isn’t the SF secondary really banged up? I think smith will have 100+ and 2 TDs

Verrett is out. I think they've got a couple of half decent vets but it seems their 5th round rookie is going to start so perhaps their vets have struggled.

@LeanMeanGM

Eagles 27 - 49ers 24

We win on a last second, 50+ yard FG

It’s human nature to have a letdown after a performance like week 1.  It will be interesting to see how this team handles that success today.  Hope to be wrong here…

49ers 24

Eagles 20

Howie also deserves credit for deciding to devote a 53-man roster spot to Mailata and sticking to it despite Ostman punking him repeatedly.

How quickly I forget the great Joe Ostman... practice Reggie White.

I put my prediction in but I don't think I said anything to

@LeanMeanGMb

Eagles 27

Niners 24

Bonus 4 sacks for the defense

              1 interception for Slay

Their secondary is beat up, but no weakness trumps Nate Gerry playing at LB.

Dallas Goedert 300+ yards and 4 TDs

@LeanMeanGM

It worked last week:

49ers - 27

Birds - 23
