Not sure I'm following your point on this... A power outage made the Ravens suddenly unable to defend a mobile QB?

Not necessarily the power outage but just because there was such a long break in game action.  Baltimore was rolling and had momentum.  Then there was a long break when the lights went out.  49ers seemed to benefit from it.  Had extra time to go over game plan, strategy, make adjustments, etc.  Maybe the 49ers would have made a comeback regardless without there being a break in the game but it sure seemed to help them.

Just here to break up the Hurts talk.

At this point would your rather have DeVonta Smith/Landon Dickerson

-or-

Micah Parsons/Rondale Moore and pick 82 (used on Dyami Brown btw)

Yeah, again, I think I'm seeing a pattern.

Eagles traded away the #84 pick for Smith, so Dyami Brown is irrelevant as he would have been gone.

Smith and Dickerson -- no contest.

If Hurts ends up sucking, who cares no harm no foul, we move on after the season. With the last one who still can’t even walk yet again we were locked in to paying ridiculous money.

End of Discussion.

What?  How dare you bring up Tom Brady and Drew Brees, they are outliers!"

I didn't say it didn't have any effect on the game, I said adjustments are made at the halftime of every super bowl and those periods always provide time for coaches to regroup. And a kick return by Jones is something I've already brought up before as a point that should not be used to prove Kaepernick didn't play well enough to win that Super Bowl. You even referred to the niners as a team when describing things that happened in their favor or against their favor. Why? Because it's a team sport. Your argument isn't that the blackout didn't help Kaepernick, it's that it helped the NIners "as a team". Jones scoring TDs didn't hurt Kaepernick, those TDs hurt the Niners "as a team". Unless you think Kaepernick should be out there on the kick coverage unit, or trying to defend Jones as a safety on defense, he could only control so much of what happened in that game. The bottom line is, he played really well against a very tough defense and the Ravens still only won by a very slim margin (if Crabtree draws a flag on Smith, the Niners likely win the game, imo.)

Is Colin Kaepernick part of the San Francisco 49ers during that game? So yes help him and the niners. also hurts the ravens who had a bunch of momentum after that jones a touchdown and came out flat on offense and defense after that delay. go look at the stats for the first 35 minutes for Kaepernick. They scored six points on offense.   So based off momentum of the game, the ravens having a all of it, Colin Kaepernick before the lights went out was not good, the defense was bad for the niners, and harbaugh saying it helped kaepernick, the defense, the niners turn it around. Meanwhile John harbaugh has also stated the ravens came out flat after the 34 min delay. You’re right ravens all the momentum being up 22 after a huge KO return td and the niners playing horribly on all 3 unit and completely deflated was just halftime adjustments.  But screw the 34 min delay that both harbaugh brothers have discussed saying had affects on their teams performance afterward.

Dont agree there.

its a function of supply coming out of college. Real qbs are scarce

and getting even more rare since less programs run/teach pro offense.

Well, here's a thought. I think Hurts should run more, not less. It was pretty clear to me that the 49ers had no answer to that.

Another thought: As I recall quite clearly, Sirianni spoke several times about working on Hurts' footwork. That's the area where he needs to improve. He needs to develop quiet feet. That will come with practice, drills, more practice, and game experience. Arm strength and accuracy are not the issues, despite the chorus that sings here daily.

Arm strength is not a strength.  So, he needs to have better footwork to compensate for that.   But, yes, they need to work with him a lot

As for the running more... I'd prefer not.  I'd rather he work on the footwork, the reading of the defenses, making decisions within the pocket.  Of course, he's going to run.  But, I want him to work on the things that don't come naturally.  My goal for this season isn't W's vs. L's.  The goal for me is to develop the younger players and make them better.

I can't wait until we get to the point where the "Speak Hurts into Existence Crowd" admits they were wrong or "Negadelphia Crowd" (myself included) admits they were wrong.  I know one thing, it will be a lot less painful with the latter.  That would mean we have a real QB.    But there is a trend where some posters hated the last guy so much....that they over-value the current guy by comparison.........guess what...it's ok.   He's not coming back.

We're still going in circles. Momentum is difficult to quantify, sure it's a factor but trying to pin that as the primary reason for why a mobile QB played well in a given game is still a reach. There's an ebb and flow to many games in this league, there's nothing unique about mobile QBs that allow them to benefit from stoppages of the game. That the niners allowed 28 pts (including a kick return and bomb to Jones) up until that point has little to do with Kaeprnick, agreed? Are you agreeing with me that it's a team sport and judging QBs primarily on wins/losses isn't ideal? Do you agree that Kaep played well enough to win and he didn't lose that game?

Yup, everything in college is shotgun spread RPO stuff.

I was blown away by how many times SF lined up with a FB with the QB under center

Most teams don't run 2 back sets anymore and especially with qb under center.

Eagles have like two Run plays, I miss the power traps and counters or just straight up power lead.

I'm surprised more teams don't occasionally incorporate a FB as I think doing so just gives a defense one more thing to prepare for

The eagles run game isn't particularly difficult to prepare for, it's Inside/outside zone with an RPO, always single back from the shot gun and the side the RB lines up on determines the direction of the run which can be remedied by going pistol though I'm not sure how often if ever sirrianni calls pistol formations

Saints having a rough season at home

Well, I mean, we spent a premium draft pick on him, and he was presumably a factor in the decision to trade our current QB at the time. Not that Wentz was necessarily the cure to what ails us either, but the harm to me is clearly more than nothing if Hurts is a flop.

The Ceasars Dome??  😄

WTF is that?

Just the 14th overall pick DE getting pancaked by a TE, nothing to see here....

And also Eric Wilson, whose knocks coming in were he couldn't tackle or play the run. Not quite an encouraging start...

I'll say first and foremost, Howie had to do that trade-up from 12 to 10.  If he had passed on Justin Jefferson and allowed the Giants to take DeVonta Smith in back-to-back drafts he'd have been vilified by the fans/media -- and for good reason.  He might be in the basement by now.

Having said that, if I was armchair Howie I'd have let Parsons go to DAL and Smith go to the Giants, traded back with CHI to #20, then with how the board played out I would have drafted:

#20 -- Newsome or Farley CB

#37 -- Trevon Moehrig S

#70 -- Hunter Long TE (Ertz would have been released)

#84 -- Wyatt Davis OG

Then you have either 3 or 4 1st round picks for 2022 in a deeper college draft class.  Still nothing at WR, but ammunition for a true rebuild.

Your point, which started with Hurts, is the NFL is moving to something new, which it is not.  There has always been mobile QB's, I gave you the names.

Fact is, you win in the NFL passing from the pocket, and no matter how many times it tries to change, it never will.

I didn’t say you don’t win from the pocket first.

Well considering kaepernick threw a pick in the first half. I think Colin Kaepernick played pretty mediocre to below average for 35 minutes of that game. So he had a pick. And he and the offense failed to score touchdowns in the red zone (twice in the first half). He and the offense also had multiple three and outs that gave the ravens short fields of 49 and 56 yards.

defense not play well either. Neither did the special team. However pretending like the only reason they were down 28 to 6 was because of the Niners defense and special team when karpernick couldn’t convert touchdowns in the red zone, he had an interception and his offense giving the niners short field position didn’t play into that score is ridiculous. He was below average for the first 35 mins of that game just like the defense and offense.

So I don’t think he played well enough to win cause he was below average for 35 mins along with the niners defense and offense. This is like saying mcnabb played well enough to win the nfc title game vs the cardinals cause second half he was good meanwhile first half they scored 6 points and looked bad and got down 24-6. It wasn’t just mcnabb either cause defense stunk and special teams wasn’t great. However just because you play well for 25 minutes of a 60 minute game does not mean I think you played well enough for an entire game to justify winning. Games are 60 mins and not 25. Maybe if he, the defense and ST showed up prior to the delay they are super bowl champions.

Allen averages 547 rushing yards per year, Rich Gannon ran for 529 yards his age 35 season.

I feel like you continue to miss the point.
