If your argument is contact while the ball is in the air, it can't be illegal contact.  It's pass interference, or it's not.

No my argument was illegal contact which is before the ball is in the air.

There's some stigma about former starters transitioning to backups with the same team.  I'm sure there are examples out there, but it just feels like they typically get moved.

But I agree that Hurts would be worth more to us as a backup.  Without trying to incite those of us who want him as our long-term starter, Hurts is a prototypical backup.  Your starter gets out, game plan falls apart...backup comes in and is able to improvise with his legs, keep the defense off balance.  Hurts clearly has proven to have the attitude and mentality that the moment isn't too big for him and that he can step in cold and step up.

Doesn't matter if your starter is Lamar Jackson-style or Tom Brady, that's who you want coming off the bench.

Interestingly, I think that fits Minshew too.

With the way this team values QBs, I don't think we'd give up Hurts as a backup unless we got at least a 3rd round pick. And even then, we might not trade him. I think that would be the right move, and Hurts has that team first attitude to make it work. He'd probably leave as a free agent and we'd probably end up with about the same comp pick as we'd get in a trade, which to me is better value any way. Basically a low level starter/high end backup for 2 years + a 2024 4th or 5th vs a 2022 4th or 5th in present. Easy decision in my mind.

Gardner Minshew was traded for a conditional 6. If Hurts doesn’t show enough for us to want to keep him, what could he possibly be worth?

These things are tricky. What did Kolb show to net what he did?

2 back to back 300 yard games fool!

I agree. Been saying since the offseason if I were the Ravens I’d offer a 3rd for Hurts. It’s only a matter of time before Jackson gets hurt in that offense and Hurts is as close to a perfect backup as they’ll find.

Well that falls in line with our superior blocking #2 Tight End.  You know it’s because of him and the fact that we extended JM and Sweat that the 2018 draft class is a great one now.  Cool huh?

Apparently you can.

The "tell me you... without telling me you..." trend is on a "I didn't have... on my 2021 bingo card" level of annoying.

That’s strange.

I wonder if teamrankings takes into account sack yardage?

EDIT: Jalen Hurts has 454 passing yards, according to Rotoworld (now it’s called "something” Edge.)

This is crazy. According to the "passing yards” stats I’ve followed my whole life NFL.com is wrong (as lost sack yards count against team passing yards in the NFL. In college they count against rush yards).

By the way, 27th isn’t bottom 5. It’s close enough, though.

27+5 = 32

Once you include the rushing stats, his value is clearly higher.
If you don't value QB rushing, then sure Minshew will look better.

And this is exactly why people have an issue with Hurts.

1. 32

2. 31

3. 30

4. 29

5. 28

27th is 6th from the bottom. When adding, you don’t count 27 in the equation. You start with the next number. 28.

There was no contact before the ball was released.  Reagor gave up that ground on his own.

Turned the keys over to Vick for that fun 2010 season.

Oh man there are so many social media trends that annoy me like no other.  This is one of them.

Another....picture or video of someone doing something with the words....so and so is all of us right now.

I get it. Unfortunately, you can't just turn off rushing.

Another quality extension by Howie.  Brandon Brooks has played 9 of a possible 26 games since signing his extension.

That was a long time ago. I prefer looking at more recent examples for comparisons.

You can access the list of historical NFL trades above.
Ex: AJ McCarron and Trevor Siemian went for 5s. No one thinks they're better than Hurts. Tyrod Taylor got traded for a 3rd. That's a pretty clean comparison. If you think Tyrod is better, make it a 4.

Lol I think there's 2 posters who keep insisting it was PI.

I don't think you do. Having to use rushing yards as well, because his passing has been sub-par thus far, to make an argument that he's "shown more" than a current third string QB isn't exactly a strong argument.

I doubt anyone thinks Tyrod is better now. But at the time of that trade Tyrod had a perceived higher ceiling. I'll maintain that the most valuable trait of Hurts is his work ethic and desire to be the absolute best version of himself. A lot people push this off as barely relevant - "everyone has work ethic" - no they don't. What makes HOFers in any sport is that above their talent (which they must have as a prerequisite) is their work ethic and desire. Hurts probably doesn't have HOF talent but he definitely has HOF work ethic. What ever his ceiling his - he will find it. The question any prospective trade partner should have is - has he reached his ceiling or is there more? - how much?
