Schwartz was the king of average defense.  I say that half as a compliment, half as a jab.  If you want to invest less capital in your defense and just keep things as controlled and average as possible in an offense driven league with a not-so aggressive defense, then Schwartz is your guy.

Anyone who tries to get too cute and too exotic is going to look like Mcdermott replacing JJ.   So the Gannon soft zone isn't really the worst thing in the world for the 2021 NFL.  Not exactly impressive right now though.

It’s early, and maybe he’s not comfortable with being more exotic. I just haven’t seen much of anything to be excited about.
