It's the stupidest take on why we shouldn't trade for him.  The biggest concern is his character.  He is potentially a serial sexual predator.  His ego is so big that he is not playing because he has been trying to force a trade.  I mean the fact that he doesn't want to play despite having signed a very big contract is troubling. He basically is throwing a fit about not having a say in the coaching hire and is ignoring any obligation he has to do a job he agreed to do.  I mean that kind of ego, while not unheard of in sports, rarely plays out to a player having long-term success.

Agreed. Add in the fact he doesn't want to come here. I understand it may come down to he doesn't have a choice so he settles. But then it opens the scenario where the legal stuff gets put behind, he has a decent year and then he doesn't want to be here and demands a trade.

Is Lesean starting a fight at the game?

No, but any time we honor a former player we get destroyed in that game.

Conflicting reports on that g Cobb who’s covered the team for years says he has a source close to watson saying he would. I think the bigger thing is if it was down to Miami or eagles watson would say he won’t come here. I think if Miami didn’t want to pay the price and it was basically the eagles he’d make the move here. That’s just my personal feeling on it. I think he much prefers the Dolphins over the eagles.

That said I’m not saying they should go for Deshaun Watson. I’m just irritated at the fact we have people on here who seem to think he’s not really good QB. And that’s the reason why they don’t want to. That’s a bs argument. If you didn’t want him because it was off the field issues or the fact he is a prima donna that I could understand. That I can’t argue with. However telling me he’s not that talented or top 8 quarterback in the league that’s beyond ridiculous. There is not 8 quarterbacks better than Watson in this league (mahomes, rodgers, brady, Wilson, Allen, Dak and Herbert are the only ones you can make a case for at the moment)

If the Eagles trade for him, I am assuming they know more about the accusations and his character than I do.  I don't want him.  I would rather they try for Rodgers or another veteran in the offseason.  I don't care that Rodgers is 38.  Pay him whatever he wants and spread it out over 5 seasons with the hope he can play 3 of them.

I think rodgers wants to be on the west coast tbh. That’s where all the teams he was rumored to want to go too. If carr wasn’t playing as well as he was i think it would be Denver or Vegas. If carr falters as the season progresses i believe Denver and Vegas will be in on that and that’s where he’d ask to be traded too.

side note: Hats off to Vegas. They have some pretty good weapons on that team besides Waller. Edwards seems to make big catches in big moments. Renfroe is a first down machine in the slot. Ruggs has really played much better this year as carr has given him more chances to make plays. Then you got Waller.

We just went through this crap with Wentz, Wentz in 2017 was better than Watson ever was, in 2018-2019 they were similar (Wentz took this team to the playoffs in 2019 with a "practice squad" offense group), when things went bad in 2020 Wentz wanted out instead of leading the rebuild. Same thing with Watson in Houston.

If Watson was an elite QB, and was a driven competitor who'd take the responsibility of leading the team back to respectability, it would be a different story. Then you pay the price, spend a couple years patching a team together until you get some high draft picks and clear out cap room. A true franchise QB (top 3-4) gives you a decade to get it together and lightning to strike.

But he's not special, he's just good enough to lead you to mediocrity. Like other QBs in that 3rd tier group, put up big numbers, win 9-10 games, maybe win a PO game over a couple years. And if some injuries hit, or you lose guys to FA, without the picks to replace them, it's easy to see the same 4-12 type year Watson had in Houston - and the same outcome.

If the goal is to get back to the SB, a shortcut like Watson is a great way to prevent reaching that goal.

The Eagles could land 3 core players in this draft, the guys who can anchor a team for a decade. Get me a top DL, S and OL in this draft and I'm a happy man. I don't mind losing for a couple years if by 2014 we have a young, talented team with some probowl level talent - because odds are we're never gonna land a prime time Rodgers or Brady or Peyton. But good QBs come loose all the time (Brady is a shadow of himself, but on a team with great talent . . .). Build it and the QB will come.

That's my point. He would be just settling to come here because there's no where else. Eagles weren't one of 4 teams he initially wanted to go to and based on the reports, it sounds like if he were to agree to come here it would be reluctantly vs willingly. So why waste time and draft capital on a guy with character red flags who already is pissed at his current team because he wants to be co-GM to come here which isn't even a preferred destination? Feels like you would just be adding a ticking time bomb that will continue the dysfunction in the FO, and he'll probably want to bail sooner rather than later.

Very loaded question. If I'm the GM, I get rid of Siriani and I back a brinks truck to Daboll or Joe Brady.

I then use the 2, top 15 picks in 2022 to go get someone they want thats in the league, or figure out how to get up for Matt Corral.

I also have ZERO problem not drafting a QB in 2022 and waiting till 2023. You can probably get a kinds ransom for the Eagles first round next year.

NFL teams want to draft a QB just to draft a QB. as mentioned, I'll punt out top 5 pick in 2022 for a kings random in 23/2024.

No, it's not a loaded question. You said "IS HE WORTH THE DRAFT PICKS NEEDED PLUS TAKING ON HIS CONTRACT. The answer to that is no. he's not" So, minus the legal problems, yes, he's absolutely worth it. And why? Because, regardless if you draft a QB this year, or wait until next year, there's still no guarantee you're getting someone near the talent level of Watson and you're expecting Howie, to go out and draft someone that would be close to Watson's talent.

Having said that, I'm not here advocating they trade for him, but I'm not against it either. I still think Howie and Uncle Jeffy will try to trade for Russell Wilson.

@austinfan are you going to respond to any of my questions ??

So, minus the legal problems, yes, he's absolutely worth it.

I was told he is not worth it, because the Texans are middle of the NFL in PPG, even thought they have a pro bowl LT and have a high yards per carry.

Sanders, who also caught three passes, said Wednesday that "I do believe to have a successful offense, you have to run the ball” while noting that he was a bigger part of the plan during the week and understood how the way things played out changed that plan.

"I didn’t dwell on it too much,” Sanders said, via Josh Tolentino of the Philadelphia Inquirer. "It is what it is. I can only control what I can control. The game was pretty much out of hand early. So I can see how the game plan didn’t go as planned. There was kind of a panic from the whole team based on how the game went.”

That's the Sirianni Dawg mentality, to panic from the coach on down when things go bad early.

I’m not going to argue against that. But you damn well know lurie wont and doesn’t view it that way. He views it as he’s getting a top 10 QB that he probably really covets. who’s still relatively young at 26 and can be their franchise QB for the next decade. This organization wouldn’t view it like that. Just go back to the chip Kelly hiring. He didn’t want to be here originally. They had to convince him to leave Oregon after he turned them down once. So it tells me even if this wasn’t the place he really wanted to be theyd still make the move cause of his talent and the position he plays. Therein lies the problem.

Oh 100% agree with that. Lurie think's he ishes gold covered roses. I have no doubt that he thinks all that. He is the epitome of the "this is fine" dog in a fire.

Yeah.  I don't know about losing the sweet tooth.  Because when 8pm-9pm come calling....it's there.

I didn't claim it is "lost", but it changes as we age and becomes less pronounced.  I would guess that some of the candy you liked as a kid is no longer as interesting to you as it was, and some foods you didn't like as a kid have become more favorable to you.

If Deshaun Watson had zero character concerns, I'd trade 3 1sts and 3 players without hesitation. Franchise QBs are worth that and more. Due to the character concerns though, you can't pay that price. Let Miami take the risk.

If i had to bet on the eagles QB next year if things keep going to the direction they are with Hurts, then i think it’s either watson or if Wilson asks to be traded (which might very well happen cause Seahawks in that division are staring 1-3 right in the face this week. Frankly i think seattle was overrated to begin with. Their defense stinks and they overpaid for Adams)

You think the Devil in this situation is can lead you to the promise land, i do not.

So, No I dont know "the devil" behind door #2. But with 2- 1st this year, (probably both top 10) 2 seconds this year, 1 first in 2023 that'll be top 10, a 2nd next year, I'll take my chances.

And this is why you take Watson (legal/character issues aside) as opposed to assuming you can get his talent level out of the draft, especially with Howie making those selections.

His thread is worth a read.

this is a reasonable take. I wouldn’t trade 3 firsts and 3 players but i get why you’d to to pay that price for his talent. Imo talent is not the issue with him

That said i still don’t see him going for 3 firsts. I think it’s likely 2 and a player and mid round pick unless the allegations and investigation completely goes away.

Tyrod Taylor had a 84.6 QBR with the same Houston team before he was injured!

Stafford is off to a great start, maybe talent makes the QB? He's as good as Watson.

Murray has steadily improved, I'd say he's caught up to Watson.

For those who like gaudy QB stats:  Cousins QB ratings since 2015:  101.6, 97.2, 93.9, 99.7, 107.4, 105.0, 4000+ yards five of those six seasons.

Guys who are playing as well as Watson the last couple years, Derek Carr (from the pits to the top ten), Tannehill, Garropollo (when healthy).

Watson has been in that 8-12 range for three seasons, top third but not elite. Like Stafford, put him on a talented team and he can win, put him on a bad team, well . . . 4-12.
