I must be confused, since I'd didn't realize Goff was an awful QB.

He did flatline the past two years, but his first two years darn good, 63.6%, 8.2 YPA, QB rating 100.9, QBR 61.0. 24-7 record. One example (so is Wentz) why you wait a few years before anointing young QBs. Don't know if he hurt his arm or just incompatible with his HC.

Stafford to Goff is an upgrade, but not to the same extent as going from Whinston to Brady.

I'm going to guess you just got that backwards.

Not in response to you, per say, just to the topic.

Robert Kraft really has no place to call anyone an a-hole, he needs to take a look in the mirror. And, not that I like Belichek at all, but if supporting Trump is really what caused players to turn on him, those little children really need to grow up. Not everyone is going to agree on everything. Really kind of ridiculous if THAT is the reason players turned on him, over everything else.

Sorry, just had to put that out there...

As far as Hurts and arm strength, his arm strength is fine, nothing special, but more than good enough.

His problem with the deep ball is timing, he just doesn't get rid of the ball in time, but Stafford underthrew DeSean for the same reason, on those long passes the ball has to be in the air before the QB sees the WR pull away, otherwise the CB has time to catch up if the WR has to wait for the ball.

I'm willing to be patient with Hurts, it's a lost season in any case, and the key is improvement. Some QBs just have great instincts and vision, but most learn to see the field (or not) their first few years in the league as the game slows down. If he doesn't improve as the season progresses, uh oh.

The narrative on here has always been Goff only completed passes because McVay was speaking into his helmet until the communication cuts off.

Goff is very good when he's running plays on script and the ball comes out on time.  He struggles when plays break down and he doesn't respond well to being hit.  At the same time, Stafford is quite overrated by many on this board.

Goff is 0-11 without Sean McVay.

McVay made him, and he'll make things way easier for Stafford. Coaching makes a huge difference.

And Stafford is just way better.

No one said it was like Jameis to brady. However pretending it’s not significant when mcvay and the Rams showed you just how significant by giving up one first for Stafford and another just to rid themselves of goff’s contract to do that trade tells you everything you need to know about how much of an upgrade they think it is. Which that price is significant

"They" are often wrong. Stafford has a great arm, but I've seen enough Detroit games to know he's the **** child of Favre, makes games exciting for both teams.

I think his value may be less his QB skills than the threat his arm provides for McVay to game plan. That is, McVay is smart enough not to ask Stafford to do too much, but Stafford to DeSean is a great way to open up the field. But I think if you ask Stafford to carry the team, better have a lot of Maalox on hand.

this! Not only that they gave up two first for Stafford in that trade. One for Stafford and another just to get rid of Goff. They aren’t doing that if they don’t think Stafford is a significant upgrade. Heck Stafford had multiple teams wanting him. Meanwhile no one wanted Goff when they tried to trade him unless they gave up picks with Goff. Pretty telling by the rest of league that teams wanted picks to take on that contract.

Meh, he ran his course here in Philly.  He wasn't a great coach for a long stretch of time here.  Maybe turned into one.  But revisionism is easy now.

I don't know if there was ever a long stretch where he was a bad coach.  I don't know if any coach does much with those post-injury Donovan teams.  There was a long stretch where he had too much say.  I mean in 14 seasons he had 8 with double digit wins.  He had a top 10 scoring offense in 8 seasons.  He coached the team to 5 NFC Championships.  I think when JJ passed he should have pushed for Dawkins to stay.  If he had done that, then maybe the team doesn't look as bad defensively in 09 and 10.  When Castillo took over it created a void at the oline coach position and an inexperienced DC.  Kelce took over for Mayberry and that impacted Vick who relied on Mayberry to help him with the protections.  Vick's play declined and in 12 the wheels fell off everything.

PFR, raw numbers are given on the franchise page, but you need to correct by going to the team stats page and subtract defensive and ST TDs and their related points.

Might want to check your math.  If you use this link, it shows you all the offensive, rushing and passing TD's.

I went to the individual stats page for a couple teams to back up these numbers are correct.

https://www.nfl.com/stats/team-stats/offense/scoring/2020/reg/all

If you assume every extra point is made, 43 total offensive TD's, x 7, / 16 = 18.81 PPG.

But if we just go strictly by offensive TD's, Texans rank 17th, not 19th.

Guys were open.

Their #2 pick from last season, after chasing the franchise QB out of town, is failing to see them before escaping a pressure-free pocket.

This is all evidenced by Stafford being arguably the best QB in football this season, while being undefeated and coming off of a win over the defending SB champs.

I mean you can also just be wrong. There is that possibility.

If you don’t think arm strength being a cannon compared to Goff so you can open up the entire playbook isn’t a significant upgrade then i don’t know what to tell you. That changes everything you are able to do with the playbook and what mcvay can create. I also think Stafford can read a defense and doesn’t need mcvay doing so for him before the headset is turned off at around 15 seconds.

part of me now wants to see Stafford win an mvp and super bowl (cause i think the lions wasted his career) with the Rams just so we can come back to this discussion then.

I never said he was a bad coach.  But he had a long stretch where he wasn't a "great" coach.  But a large portion of this fan base picks and chooses their sides for whatever reason.  Love Cunningham, hate McNabb.  Love Reid, hate Kotite .....................that was a joke.   Hate Wentz....Hate Wentz.

I kind of hate the entire franchise right now lol

I love the franchise, team, memories, gear, brand....etc......I am loyal to a fault, 100% all in.  Hell, I have been one of the few all in on the Phillies until this week.  But when I am done with someone Kapler, Lurie, Reagor, Hurts, Howie, Andy Reid, Jimmy Rollins, Doc Rivers, Ben.......(I have had my hit list over the years) I am 100% out on them.  I am in on the brands though.

Oh i still love the teams. I’m a glutton for punishment. I just really hate where this franchise is and who is in charge and the direction it feels like it’s heading

And 4th in points scored, and #1 in QBR.  I mean, these are not the metrics I judge a QB by, but they are @austinfan's.

It will be curious to see what else I find when using the correct numbers.  And you wonder why I challenge him so much, when he is not even using the facts it draws his "I know everything" routine into question.

Woah!
