When exactly did I say he was "unproven" as a franchise QB? Before last season he had all of two years as a starting QB. That's not a long track record - as we saw with Wentz, a young QB can look great for a short stretch. Now Mahomes is in his fourth season, if he gets through this season he'd combine both excellence and durability, and he's hands down the best QB in the game.

All you had to do is ask, February 5th of this year.

It was the day of the super bowl against the bucs when he said he wasn’t proven to be elite yet cause he still could get hurt and change his trajectory. And then @ManuManu made a good point saying even if he got hurt and wasn’t the same even after those 3 years as a starter he had then he was still proven to be elite during that time.

Close buddy, it was two days before the Super Bowl

To change the subject... who's watching tonight's Thursday Night match-up?  Bengals vs. Jaguars.   If it was real bengal tigers taking on real jaguars, it would be can't miss TV.  But, as it is... I think I'll just go to bed early.

Yeah.  Great model.  Let’s get an all time great QB to come join us.

Exactly.

So what distinguishes the franchise QBs, careers that last a decade or more!  Peyton, Brady, Brees, Rodgers, before them guys like Young and Montana. Even guys a tier below like Favre and Rivers and Eli and Big Ben. Durability is the hardest to predict, but it's the key to greatness - because a couple great seasons isn't a great career, but the capstone to a great career.

So three seasons? Maybe. Four seasons, much less likely to be good luck. Five or more, pretty good bet that the QB will start for a decade even if they have a serious injury (i.e., bad breaks happen, but durable players aren't plagued by constant dings or numerous injuries).

Only QBs I’d take over watson right now are

brady

Russell Wilson (not the elf on the shelf)

rodgers

mahomes

josh allen

dak

close with Herbert (if legal stuff involved I’d take Herbert over watson).

Stafford— older at 33 and had back injuries that concern me

murray— has more talent around him the watson had in Houston (better oline, Edmonds/Connor, then green, Hopkins, Moore ans kirk). he also constantly makes 2-3 bad decisions per game that hurts the cardinals. Eventually Might get there.

lamar— not near the passer watson is. I rather have Watson’s passing ability than lamar’s overall athleticism

elf on the shelf— he’s looked god awful. I get he’s on the Jets but he’s been awful along with the rest of the team. He make hurts last week look like a pro bowler

lawrence— possibility a couple years from bow

cousins— lol he’s not clutch and his stats before this year are always hallow stats.

carr— rather have watson. He’s doing well this year but watson has more talent imo.

I think Watson and Allen are pretty comparable but Allen likely has better intangibles. Allen hasn't been nearly as productive as Watson and you have to wonder if his big jump in completion percentage was an aberration.   I think Hebert is probably a better prospect than Watson.  Murray is also kind of a push decision although he is someone that have some exponential growth if his recognition grows.  Hebert in 3 years may look better than Watson does at his best.  I think Carr would be higher on my list than Cousins.

Maybe watching the Jags will make me feel better about the Eagles.

Until you see Lawrence throw over the middle, and not underthrow deep passes.

Mahomes is the best QB in the league right now and every team would select him first if they had a shot at him in a league wide reshuffle.  He's not HoF worthy yet, but that wasn't the debate.  He's the best QB and there's no one even debating it... well, except maybe you.  'unproven'?  No.  He's very proven.  What is unproven right now is whether or not he has the durability and longevity to be enshrined some day, but that's not the same thing at all.

He is the best QB in the NFL, he is a franchise QB, he is a generational talent.

Yeah, I thought that too with the throws against the 49ers.  That throw against Dallas on the first drive wasn't a timing issue.  It was a he didn't have the guts to just unleash it.  He floated it, and he's floated most of his deep balls.  He floats a lot of his throws.  Very few are thrown with purpose versus throwing with zip.  His arm strength is not good.  I would definitely not say it is 'more than good enough', it is more likely 'barely good enough', if it is in fact, 'good enough'.

The "arm-strength" debate gets kinda sticky...  his arm seems strong enough for most NFL throws, but that's a heckuva lot different than understanding which type of throw will best accomplish what he needs to accomplish...  his "touch" on throws has been woefully short of good-enough the last two games...  his under-throws appear to me to be about hesitancy...

He's not seeing things well pre-snap, he's not seeing things well post-snap, which make him hesitant when it comes time to actually release his throw...

Seems to me he can, in pure terms, put enough "zip" on the ball to be effective...  but there's one whole helluva lot more to completing passes than that...

That photo of Lurie is prime private school educated man whose physical education was watching other people run around.  I mean this nicely, but only rich Americans who don't know any better wear white tube socks pulled up.  He looks like a rich dork who has to be told how to wear that get up.

Absolutely.  Like when getting the ball out late, zip can help make up for that, placement to compensate, etc.  Seems he has a lot of things to compensate for.

That's a great model if you can get a QB to drop in.  It's a tough spot.

Watson, Wilson, and Rodgers all seem to be in play this season.  Brady and Stafford recently.

It's not like going to Wawa to get a Gobbler, but to me, it's more favorable than bringing a rookie QB into a less-than-talented situation.
