I think on defense, this season is more about player evaluation than anything else, by the second half, it won't surprise me if there's a revolving door between the PS and main roster and a lot of kids get cameos. One benefit of the tough early schedule if their playoff hopes are quickly dashed, Howie can sell at the trade deadline and raid practice squads the rest of the year. Then eat some veteran contracts in the offseason and go with youth in 2022.

Hurts gets most of this year to show improvement, if he still looks like this in December, I expect Minshew to take over.

The one temptation they need to resist is trading for a QB, better to struggle for two years with a true rebuild and obtain a bunch of young athletes on both sides of the ball. Then go get a QB. The mistake so many rebuilding franchises make is focusing on the QB instead of building a team. Once you have a team, you can add a veteran QB for a short-term fix or package picks and gamble on a kid in a situation where he's not running for his life.

We’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t. We haven’t shown the ability to hit on enough picks to build a good team. Our cap isn’t in good enough shape to fill long-term holes in FA.

We might be waiting a while for that QB if we follow your plan.

Darnold was traded for a 2/4/6. What exactly did he show that would excite teams?

Darnold played under awful coaching and on a bad team , Miami is a much better team , with far better coaching

A fart after taco bell, Howie picking in the draft and then Glazer

Why would you not trust Glazer? He’s as respected as it gets as an insider.

Let me ask again: What did Darnold show in his four years? I didn’t ask you for excuses.

Glazer usually waits for others to report then he chimes in claiming his own and the "big announcement  thing" was a farce.

I don’t think that’s correct.

Trust your instincts.  The whole Philly sports media is filled with guys who "call it how they see it”, it’s just none of them are as dumb as ESP.  Instead of reporting on the team, he injects his obviously biased opinions on players and the direction of the team.  He’s angling for Eskin’s job as sideline reporter/team boot licker.  If you want to hear or read someone who is unbiased, actually knows football and doesn’t interject his personal feelings, follow Sheil Kapadia.  He’s real good.

Yeah I like Sheil Kapadia and the BWF pod.

Evaluating who on defense?  Nelson on a one year rental is playing instead of McPhearson.  Epps is playing because Wallace is hurt but Wallace hasn’t shown much when he has played.  Scott is hurt but Maddox in his last year of rookie contract isn’t being evaluated.

Wilson on a one year rental isn’t being evaluated. Edwards in his third year isn’t being evaluated. Avery in his final year on his rookie contract has been a bust trade and isn’t being evaluated. Johnson, maybe being evaluated a bit.  Taylor is a no show so far and Bradley isn’t getting much in playing time.  So of the LBs, maybe Johnson getting evaluated a bit.

On the DL we have seen Williams but we expected to see him. But evaluating would mean even more playing time.  Jackson only because of the loss of Graham. Marlon T, just barely.

That’s not player evaluating that is pretty much Gannon has so little to work with that he is playing most of them.  The age is pretty much limited.  Of course, they will add youth in 2022 because they have no money for free agents and the cupboard is bare. What concerns me is it is the same group of evaluators and decision makers that let the cupboard be so bare.  This is going to be an extended rebuild.  Time to rebuild the evaluation group was last spring after the draft.

I think Howie has inquired on Watson and an asking price as any GM should, and the Eagles have done their due diligence with the league as far as fact-finding on their investigation and possible suspension.  I don't believe the Eagles have as much trade interest in Watson as has been widely speculated.

This feels odd, like Howies using him to drop the price

All things aren’t equal ,when comparing players , you need to  consider their situations , Tua has had a much better situation , darnold horrible situation , hence him performing much better , under better circumstances . Tua is in a good one and stinks

It’s apples and oranges

we can go back and forth all day long , but if you think their situations were the same , I can’t help you

It really is hard to tell at this point, as with most things anymore info comes from all sides and mostly disagrees with each other.

Tua hasn’t even played 16 games after missing a large chunk of time due to his hip injury. The Dolphins changed OCs. His OL is really bad. His weapons last year weren’t great either.

Darnold got four full seasons with an obviously bad supporting cast and coaching staff. But you haven’t even offered any reason for a team to pay up for Darnold.

Teams will often rely on their initial scouting report about a player. Josh Rosen was awful as a rookie. The Dolphins traded a second round pick for him.

Glazer is the most accurate insider in the NFL.
Glazer is also the most selective when it comes to giving out news.

Both things can be true!

well, who knows what they are planning, but after watching the first few games of Hurts and his lack of development, they have to be putting a plan together for obtaining a starting QB for 2022.  There is no way they are thinking we are good at QB for next year!

I am not going to defend Gase, but what does Miami have in coaches that make you conclude Tua is in a better position?  Flores is a defensive coach and brings a while lot of New England with him.  How has the Belichek coaching tree fared elsewhere? Tua has co-offensive coordinators who are also RB and TE position coaches.  How did that sort of arrangement work out for Doug?  Studeville is Duce 2.0.  Godsey?  Not much more to show than Press Taylor.  Charlie Frye as QB coach?  Yeah, his resume is impressive.  Now, is that the reason that Tua hasn’t impressed so far?  Partly. But part of it is the clay that there is to work with.

Nah.  I think they have been out for a little while now.  Only their name has re-surfaced probably by the Texans, to help drive the price up.  The dopey piece the other day about Chris Simms wasn't new news.  It was more of him saying "we know Lurie gave Howie the greenlight....".  As in past tense.  It's not like Lurie just this week told Howie...."yeah ok .....and......NOW...go go go Get Watson".

Please.

I dismissed the Simms stuff because like you said it’s not like it was some new news. But with how over the top he’s being about the Eagles being out, it’s either the Eagles want it out there or presumably the Dolphins do.

Thought this was interesting.

Can we force the texans to take Hurts in a Watson deal?

Do we have to take Watson back as part of the deal, or are we just throwing Hurts in as part of a 3 way deal?

Nice to be up top.

Interesting nugget, McCoy just dropped that Howie tried to trade for him back when he was in Buffalo

Is this a daily thing with the media to report what shirt the HC is wearing?  What's next, will they report if he's wearing boxers or briefs?

He's only started 5 games in his career

and there's a reason for that, the dude is a bust...doesn't have the mental or physical aptitude to start in the NFL

don't get me wrong, it sucks for him where he was drafted, but he couldn't even beat out a 7th round project-player
