It's already later.

Been so for a while. But we all realize we can’t go back in time.  That means a real evaluation of who has been drafted or signed and what, if anything, they offer because there aren’t 22 picks a year and certainly not 53.  As much as some hat Ward and Scott, there are bigger needs than backup skill positions. Honestly, the defense is really suffering.  And for the football gods sake draft a goldarn S.

That goes without saying. It goes hand in hand with a new GM. They weed out the dead weight and bring in their own guys.

Think we have all said that but I would add that when the new GM comes if that person doesn’t do some house cleaning, then I fear we see more of the same.

Haven't watched a ton of Chiefs this year. Why is their D so bad? It's mostly the same guys last year and they drafted Bolton in the 2nd. They weren't world beaters last year but I thought they were average. Are they just underperforming this year?

Yes, there are.  They stand as a testament to the poor use of resources over the recent years though.  Drafting JJAW, Reagor, Hightower, Watkins, Smith.  Trading for and then extending Desean.  Extending Jeffery.  They have more money in WRs that are not on the roster than they do in those on the roster.  And we'll have Jeffery against the books again next year.  With that level of investment at the WR position, there's no reason that they'd have a place for Ward to be on the roster.   That's my biggest issue with Ward.  Not him, but the fact that they've been forced to use him due to such utter and complete failure by the roster building.

In their defense (ha) they’ve also played the browns, ravens and chargers. All three of those teams have good offenses. Also doesn’t help when last week the offense the Chargers  extra possessions.

Looks like $35M in dead cap space for 2022 right now.   It will likely go up, I don't think there's anything they can do to lower that number.   And in addition to the $49.9M in dead money this year, they currently have another $21M in salary on IR.

It'd be cool if one these days we get some pro athlete in NFL or NBA or whatever who anytime they get interviewed they answer like they are shooting some WWF wrestling promo.  And that was just their persona.  Not like these answers they give are ever important so if one decided to just go off the reservation and do every interview over the top as if they were a wrestler it'd be so entertaining.  Getting interviewed after a game walking off the field, they take the question and then take the reporter's mic and starts speaking right into the camera pointing at it saying some ridiculous over the top wrestling type talk about the opponent they just played, who they were playing next or talking about his teammates.

It'd basically be Kelce during his Super Bowl parade speech but with every interview they ever do.

Weren't you "back in" on Hurts for his routine, cookie cutter responses?

How many paint chips did you/do you continue to eat?

Yep.  It was so funny back in early March when I started tracking this, everyone said it would be fine, we have 73 million in cap room in 2022.  Now, we don't even have 73 million in cap room in 2023 ( on March 4th we had 136.8 million )

Yeah, but we have Howie the cap genius. Look how easily he moved cap around to net us a bunch of nobodies on our way to a three win season.

A defense can be built pretty quickly.  Josh Sweat and Hargrave may be the only potential defensive starters 2-3 years from now (throw in Milton Williams from the optimist in me).  There's not much there, but it doesn't take long on D.

On offense, we probably maybe have the weapons covered after years of repeated failed investments.  Smith/Reagor/Watkins really aren't looking like anything special right now, but we can't double down on WR/TE/RB after such recent investments...and the offense might be too dysfunctional * @Veejer* to properly evaluate the weapons.  So I see more urgency in fostering their development than I do in rebuilding a defense.  The only way to do that is to find a QB and to protect him with an OL.  The OL situation is dire both short and long term.

I think we have enough on offense, especially given Sanders and Gainwell not getting many carries. I think our offense, as of this day, would be at least middle of the pack with an adequate QB.

Reagor has flaws, but there have been many times he, Smith, Goedert, etc have been wide open.

I think they have played some tough offenses and they don't have a lot at WR besides Hill.  Mahomes seems to also want to move out of structure quickly.

It's why any move for Watson is a nonsense.  It flies against the abuse Lowie have done to the cap to save face.  The irony is, the last 2 games have shown how the window dressing effort has not really made the impact they hoped it would.  With a very tough schedule coming, the FO could be taking a lot of live fire from fans and media

Speaking of Watson, he has the second highest QB rating in NFL history as of today.

That guy sucks, though. Definitely not elite.

Reagor, Smith and Watson have actually done well.  I mean they are consistently getting open and aren't dropping passes.  Reagor had one big mental error but in the scheme of things he has improved.  It's the QB that is the issue.  I am not concerned about any skill position besides QB.  OL isn't dire.  I mean they can keep Dillard and Mailata next season. Seumalo is under contract the next 2 seasons.  Lane is a question but likely to be in the mix as a starter for the next 2 seasons.  I think Brooks and Kelce are soon to be done.  They have Dickerson to fill in one of those roles. It's not ideal but not many teams are ideal.

I think d-line is thin.  DE is a need along with LB and the secondary.  There's a fair number of CB prospects next season.  Our LBs are trash and I hope they consider sitting Singleton and Wilson soon to at least see if the younger players can play.

Among current NFL QB's or just the rapey QBs?

Does he work hard tho? There is rumors going around that Jalen is the only player to ever work hard to get into the NFL.

No one has Jalen's swag. Takes a special kind of QB to roll to his right out of a clean pocket and throw an interception.

For the immediate future this team needs a QB, day-1 quality DE & CB, and day-2-quality IOL, LB, & S.  Possibly multiples at LB & S.  And do some good work on day-3 for depth.  In future years address Cox' and Lane's successors.

You're correct, the offense is really just a QB away.  It's the defense that has a dearth of talent.

Did he get that from Saban or Riley?

Nope.  Not everyone.

@LeanMeanGM The Eagles have no shot at winning this game if Mahomes stays healthy and Hurts is the starter the full game. Eagles 23 Chefs 22 - Hurts gets benched after getting sacked for a safety.  Flacco pulls a groin getting on his pants.  It's Minshew Mania at the Linc.  Mahomes on Covid protocol but it turns out that's just the way he normally sounds.
