I don't see that as likely. He's had too much power for too long to go back to another position without it being a weird environment. He'd probably try to keep influencing things like free agency, drafts etc. Best to just be a clean break like they did with Banner.

Realistically, my bias aside thinking he should of been gone in January, I give him 2-3 more years. If Eagles aren’t boasting a winning record or at least trending up as a roster then he’s most likely fired.

So he can go into hibernation for 2 years and take over again?  Doesn't that still count as GM for life?  Howie would be the cicada of GMs.

That won't happen.  It would be embarrassing for Lurie to demote and promote him 2 times.

I think it depends on a lot. I don't want to give him another young QB to tie his wagon to and buy him another chunk of time to try to develop him and a team. But, it's likely he will get that. What he can't get is surviving another new coaching staff. He's been here while 3 coaches and staff have been fired. Surviving a 4th and going onto a 5th is unheard of and means he's pretty much never getting fired.

I think so too. I’ve firmly believed that the reason he’s still around now, is the thought that Lurie/Howie saw the team back in 2016 as a team trending up and had pieces to eventually contend, in 2017 they caught lightning in a bottle and ascended much quicker than expected. They made those veteran trades like Tate to stay competitive. Injuries didn’t help, and they probably didn’t expect Wentz’s situation to deteriorate as quickly and bad as it did. Leading to where we are now in a full rebuild. I’m assuming Lurie kept Howie just because he built the championship roster, and Lurie is likely giving Howie his final chance given all the draft capital to rebuild this team again. But agreed If Howie blunders with all these draft picks, and still sticks around, then there’s a major major major issue in ownership.

Nothing, don’t have an opinions on him yet. I’m going to start tuning into his games. When I said forgot about him, it’s more that I meant I forgot about him when mentioning other quarterbacks. Quarterbacks are a little harder to keep track of this year because there’s so many

Yeah.  That’s what I said a few days ago.  The day he is activated we’ll know Hurts is on a short leash.

I dont think theyd do it that way, I think theyd just name Minshew the starter.

I doubt theyd dress 3 QBs, and deactivating Flacco for Minshew to be the backup would be weird

Yes

You just need a few anchor guys for a defense, a top safety, another DL, a LB or CB, and fill in the rest with players you get in the middle rounds, 2nd tier FAs on short-term deals, etc. When you draft guys like Taylor, Bradley, Wallace, McPhearson, Maddox, Jackson, Johnson, you're hoping for depth and one or two emerging, but you rarely find pro bowl types on the third day. Sweat, Hargrave, Williams on the DL, hopefully some will step up on the back seven, but they need to spend some draft capital on a couple difference makers.

The OL is close to set, Mailata/Dillard - Seumalo/Driscoll - Herbig/Dickerson - DIckerson - ???. They need maybe one starter added and some depth the next couple years. They have 3 athletic WRs, they need a possession big body type but you don't need to use a 1st rd pick to find one. Goedert/Stoll/Jackson at TE. Sanders/Gainwell at RB. When you have a Dawkins, you can pair him with a Mikell.

Depends on how they want to build the D.

Traditionally teams would have their core or " anchor" guys in the middle and build on out

DT MLB SS.

Jimmy Johnson built around the edges, DE and corner and forced everything to the middle which worked really well when he had Trotter and Dawkins in the middle

Seems since Howie has been in charge it's been all about the DL and everything else is secondary, except in Howie's case it seems everything else has been ignored especially LB and safety

In 2017 the LBs of hicks bradham then Kendricks played really well

McLeod and Jenkins were a really good safety tandem and graham as the 3rd safety played really well

Eagles allocated least amount of money to corner but they all played above their pay grades especially Robinson.

Point being since that 2017 season Howie has continued to try and fortify the DL but the the back 7 save slay have largely been an after thought, which hasn't worked.

I'd rather see the team take traditional approach and b build from the middle out or the edges like JJ rather than just put a wide majority of resources in DL and if they are going to continue down that path they need to get somebody who can actually identify and develop talent at LB and secondary.

A defense can be built pretty quickly.  Josh Sweat and Hargrave may be the only potential defensive starters 2-3 years from now (throw in Milton Williams from the optimist in me).  There's not much there, but it doesn't take long on D.

On offense, we probably maybe have the weapons covered after years of repeated failed investments.  Smith/Reagor/Watkins really aren't looking like anything special right now, but we can't double down on WR/TE/RB after such recent investments...and the offense might be too dysfunctional * @Veejer* to properly evaluate the weapons.  So I see more urgency in fostering their development than I do in rebuilding a defense.  The only way to do that is to find a QB and to protect him with an OL.  The OL situation is dire both short and long term.

I am afraid I don’t see the defense as a quick build.   Scott is at best a nickel back and maybe not even that.  Sweat and Williams are rotation pieces at DE.  Hargraves has a year left.  Taylor has shown nothing. Bradley is at best a JAG ST LB. for depth. Stevens didn’t even make the 53.  Wallace seems kind of meh.  Epps, one year left and nothing special. Singleton is a FA next year and so what.  Barnett is too and that experiment is dead.  Didn’t like the pick for lack of athleticism and still don’t. I tried not to give up on him but he just is a mediocre DE.  Slay is really not a big play at all. I like McPhearson but at best he is a number 2 CB. So the Eagles need 2 starting Ss, at least one starting CB, three starting LBs, two good rotational DTs, 2 starting level DEs just to field a defense. Let’s assume they get another year from Cox, Hargrave and Slay, that’s still seven starters needed on D next year and then another three the following year.  Forget depth.  Now what chance do you think that Howie and his underlings could draft that?  Let’s say that Lurie gets smart and fires Howie.  Seven is still a big ask from any GM and they cannot forget about offense.

I see the need for at least on starting G and probably a QB in the near future on offense. Probably a RT and two Gs at the least and quite possibly some TEs.

Chiefs 38, Eagles 17

I don't think this team can score at a rate high enough to win right now. If the defense is played and coached like last week, the Chiefs might put up 50.

Bold prediction: Sirianni overcorrects and gives Miles Sanders 20+ carries.

KC, whose defense isn’t that good, is banged up a bit at DE and especially at CB.

And Dallass was banged up at DE and the 49ers were banged up at CB and neither made a difference, plus neither team had Mahomes at QB.

@LeanMeanGM

It gets ugly this week.

Chiefs 45

Eagles 24

@LeanMeanGM 32-17 Chiefs

I think Chiefs end up running the ball in the 2nd half and eating clock while we're grabbing garbage time points

Tua’s brother was intercepted four times in the first half tonight. Yikes.

I didn’t say it would do the Eagles much good, just commenting on the KC injuries.

People keep saying that Lurie will never fire Howie no matter what.  Well he doesn't have to fire him.  He could give him a different position, like when Chip was GM, and hire a real GM.  Maybe let him run the cheerleading department or something.

Damn it, I wanted that job!

Well I’ll tell you this when watching Ridder look out for one thing. Progress.

You will notice at the beginning he wasn’t that accurate and didn’t read defenses well but he improved every year skill set wise even though he had a down Sophomore year.

He’s still a work in progress but his Physical tools show out. He’s fast, nice arm, improving accuracy and now goes through reads.

Big game tomorrow against Norte Dame. Biggest test in his career

I’m all in on Ridder. I wanna see how he does against Norte dame this weekend. If he stars in that game i think he’ll wind up seeing his stock soar up

I made cheesesteaks on Wednesday night. If anyone has some tips on seasoning for the meat please do give some advice.

SPG is all they really need.

I'm starting to feel that victory as we roll into Friday night.  Rent is due.

As much as I love Big Red I can't imagine him to actually win a game he is expected to win that is so perfectly setup that he will become the only HC in NFL history to win at least 100 games with two different franchises and to get that 100th with win the new franchise against the old franchise in that city where it all started.  Andy will figure out a way to screw that up.

But then again, watching Sirianni, he probably will too.

I just use Lawries season all... If it's good quality steak then I'll just do salt pepper and garlic. I don't like the seasoning to over power the taste of the steak.  That's just my preference though.

Shaved ribeye.

The price difference isn't even worth noting.  Inconsequential compared to the quality.

@LeanMeanGM

I don’t think that would be over correcting, it would be smart.  Control the ball and keep Mahomes to as few possessions as possible.

I wanted 25-30 rushes last week and saw 3.  20+ would be fantastic

Steakumm is awful. Like Heritage’s shaved ribeye more than Old Neighborhood because it is definitely shaved ribeye and Old Neighborhood is "shaved steak”.  I bought a griddle for my gas grill this year and get it hot with the smoke box going with some hickory chips. That and a little salt and some cracked pepper and grilled onions are all the seasoning needed for steak sandwiches although with my bumper crop of peppers, I have grilled some of those with the onions.

Speaking of peppers.  Paprikas and a batch of jalapeños (chipotle), poblanos (anchos), serranos (chile seco) and chiles going in the smoker this weekend for three hours with pecan hunks) and then my seven in one air fryer in dehydrator mode for as long as it takes.  Already dehydrated some chiles and serranos this week as those don’t need smoke.  Making salsa verde and some rojo and verde chili sauces and pickling some jalapeños and serranos too. Poblano sauces next week.  Hatch and Anaheims produced as did the Serrano, jalapeño and poblanos.  Cayennes not so much but I will get enough for a few ounces.  I did habaneros for fun and now need to figure out what to do with them. Only my Serrano and poblanos produced more peppers.

Tomatillos were disappointing for my first attempt .  Small. Need to improve my gardening on those.  Last of my romas will go into salsa.

Anyone still have that fan made Eagles highlight video from 2005ish where it showed the back to back to back losses in the NFC Title Games with sad defeating music and quotes from Dawk after the Panthers loss saying he thinks that was it and their window is closed to then getting TO and going all the way up to winning the falcons game with dramatic music especially when McNabb throws the game winner/sealer to Chad Lewis when he breaks his ankle and the video ends with Terry Bradshaw asking Andy if he thinks TO will play in the Super Bowl and Andy says he thinks he will as TO nods on in agreement?
