Gruden is a giant idiot. I for one will be happy to never see his stupid face around football again

Let me preface this by saying I'm not defending Jon Gruden.  I'm just saying let's look at the message he was relaying.

-The language he used to describe Michael Sam was honestly fairly commonplace, even in movies.  From what I'm reading, he didn't say anything bad about Michael Sam.  He didn't like the fact that Goodell was forcing Jeff Fisher to draft him to have an openly gay player in the NFL.  Michael Sam was NOT a good player.  Imagine if Goodell asked Howie to do that and he did...we would lose our collective minds.

-Gruden questioned players protesting.  Who cares?  Do we all have to agree with the protests?  Nope.  If a coach doesn't want his players protesting, that's up to him.

-Gruden called an anti gay slur and a clueless anti-football *wussy*.  That slur, much like the Q word he used was pretty common just 10 years ago.  Watch some of your favorite movies and I'm sure you'll hear it more than once.  As far as the anti-football part...yup

-Not wanting women officials, I don't know the context of what he said.  Did he say he hates women and they aren't capable?  I'd like to know exactly what he said.

-Regarding the lips of Smith.  I think making fun of physical characteristics is pretty common (I mentioned people making fun of him for looking like Chuckie).  You just can't make fun of a black guys characteristics.  It's the rule now.

I've used this language in the past.  I never said it because I was anti gay.   I've said it because that's how the language was in the locker room back then.  I wouldn't be caught dead saying it now as society has grown and changed.

Some of the stuff is worse than others.

I don't get why stuff like this is even highlighted. Who gives a crap and who hasn't called someone a p***y in an email before?

Gruden also criticized President Obama during his re-election campaign in 2012, as well as then-vice president Joe Biden, whom Gruden called a "nervous clueless ****.”

Not a very promising staff though.

Rich Bisaccia is the AHC, whoever that is. Other that there’s Gus Bradley, Tom Cable, and Rod Marinelli.

Didn’t Cable beat up an assistant coach, with the Raiders years ago?

Wasn't Gruden's either when he said these things.  This was back when he was working for ESPN doing MNF.  Also Mark Davis was Gruden's boss and Goodell works for Davis and the other owners as well.

This needs to be said while he’s helping win a National Championship, competing for Heisman’s and being talked about as a top pick. Not 2 years after a up and down start to his career … otherwise no one really believes it.

It does and I said it even after they won the national title. I said I don’t think he’s going to be a good NFL quarterback. I didn’t think he had the ideal arm strength and I thought both Jalen hurts and tua thrives more because of the talent around them then those two elevating the talent. said that leading up to the draft. I said after he had that hip injury I wouldn’t touch tua. If we still have the old boards up it’s there cause I said that multiple times.

I wasn’t the only one on this board who said that leading up into his last year at Alabama. There was about a good 10 to 12 of us who all thought that.

and just because you’re winning a Heisman or helping win a national championship does not mean you’re going to be a good or great NFL player. I also did not love Mac Jones. I think he’s a slightly above average starting quarterback. I would be surprised if he becomes a elite NFL quarterback. And I stated that leading up to the draft. I also said baker Mayfield was overrated when he went 1 and josh Allen (while everyone on here hated him id rather take my chances on him) had a higher ceiling but lower floor. Baker is a good but not great quarterback that you’re gonna wind up paying big-time money to but yet when it comes to a big game that he has to make the play that brady, mahomes, herbert and guys like that make.

I actually believe it was Don and I had a conversation where we discussed Tua Tagovailoa, why we didn’t like him and the things that bothered us before the start of the 2019 season.

What a dope…

So Jon Gruden loses his job for talking like me and my friends do daily.

Hmmm that's true.

Oh well Karma is a B.

that was a big completion.

How dare anyone criticize Obama or Biden.   Say ANYTHING YOU WANT about any conservative public figure and you're cheered.  Is that how it works?

So being a rapist gets you a 4 game suspension. Writing a mean email and it's all over?

What the crap were the Colts doing with a different holder and kicker?   And the Ravens gave them another shot at it... and the PK comes in and the holder goes back to their regular set-up?

And not to get overly political, if Gruden called Trump a fat obese orange slob in an email, I guarantee it wouldn't have even been mentioned in the piece.

And I say that as someone who is neither republican nor democrat. Frankly, I hate all politicians I think they're all phony. But the NYT is a left leaning paper, and forbid Gruden calls a Democratic candidate a p***y, oh no! Let's put that in an article with him making actual hateful comments toward gays, like they're even remotely similar.

The leagues  started cracking down on that for longer then 10 years. They were still saying it even in sitcoms up until I'll say early 2000's. Probably 2008ish is when it really became hate speech

I’d like to say "Happy National Coming Out Day, Today” to everyone here just in case….

btw, Happy Columbus Indigenous Peoples Day, as well.

Of course this becomes about the presidents.... 🙄

He wasn't Gruden's boss at the time he wrote it either.

BUT... anyone want to talk about football?   Wentz played all the snaps so far.  10-3 score.  Colts need a couple wins.  This would be a nice ending for the Eagles' draft pick.

Yes Wentz is playing decent

Only because one of the things Gruden is being criticized for is saying something bad about presidents.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say whatever political statements he made had nothing to do with his firing.
