If he's not deficient pass blocking, why would it matter that they ask him to do it 70% of the time?

I am going to wait out this thing with Dickerson, but it wasn't a smart pick at the time.   He's here now and getting reps, but I don't think the knee was ready yet.  A RS year would have likely benefitted his health.  But with injuries on the OL (again) no such luxury exists.  Then again, so many injuries on the OL is exactly why I was against the pick of an injured OL at the top of Round 2.

Run blocking is easier than pass blocking. With Dickerson’s lack of practice time and offseason training, I think it matters more to him than most.

People get fired from jobs every day. It’s not a new phenomenon.  This wasn’t some public outcry for Gruden to quit.  This was Gruden quitting because he knew his owner was going to fire him for what he had said.  If you are a white male in the US you have likely had another white male approach you and say some racist and sexist things to you that they meant.  So let’s not pretend that it would at all be surprising that a white male that is middle aged would make a racist comment.    So while we still know very little about what is in the emails, Gruden knows it’s enough that he will be unable to do his job because the people around him will not trust him.  Gruden is not going to go broke.  He’s likely not even going to be out of football forever.  I don’t think Gruden is a terrible person.  He, like everyone else, is flawed.  If your flaws keep you from doing your job, then your employer doesn’t have to keep you on the job.

Let’s just hope there’s some emails from Howie in there too that will get released soon.

Let me just say that it surprises me that a man that works among minorities and relies on them for his job performance could at all be racist. I know I have blinders on but for Pete's sake. I live in podunk PA and not around many minorities and I'm a white male past middle age and I know better (nor am I tempted to be any other way). Then to double down on his stupidity he sends emails which never ever go away?

Yeah, that surprises the heck out of me.

Sure.  But, if this is a throw away year, why not have him work on his weakness?   Clearly, he has weakness... and addressing that with reps is the goal for the future.   So, what's the problem with passing a bunch?

Rookies get better over the course of a season, then most rookies look much better in year 2.

Just look at Davion Taylor. He was near unplayable last year on defense, but his athleticism translated to special teams right away. Now, even off a calf injury, Taylor looked like a regular linebacker against Carolina.

Even during the season, guys like Shaun Bradley improved last year. He made the biggest play of the game against the Saints on 4th down to win the game. We've seen other guys take leaps during the season (Miles in 2019, Goedert and Maddox in 2018, Clement in 2017, etc.)

The Eagles don’t see this as a throwaway year, so I don’t think having the highest neutral game passing offense is all that ideal considering our QB.

All of that is beside the point though. Considering Dickerson’s offseason, he would benefit from more run plays — his biggest strength. That’s clear.

I’m happy Dickerson is playing and working through these issues. He deserves far more patience than most are giving him.

This is a really good point and I'd like to expand upon it. Just as Dickerson is new and needs development, so does this combination of QB and receivers. Further, they are installing a new system with new coaches. That's a lot to install and iron out. Lest we forget, Jimmy Johnson went 1-15 his first season with Aikman. It take time.

@LeanMeanGM

Bucs should throttle us, but Thursday's provide weird games I find.

Still,

Eagles 28

Bonus - Reagor gets 2 TDs

Well, I'm happy to give him time.  As I said earlier, Howie is to blame for the pick, but now that he's here, the hope has to be that he can stay healthy and became that 'top 15' player he has been touted to be.

But, why not work on passing plays and strengthen his weakness.

Even afan said that Howie punted on this offseason... this is a growth year, a developmental year, a find out about the QB year.  Might as well use it that way and develop all the young players we can.  So, I'm not going to be upset when they try to make Hurts throw in the RZ.  He needs to prove he can throw in tighter windows, make quicker reads, and anticipate more.  That's where those deficiencies get highlighted.  I also want to see Dickerson became a better pass protector.  Let him work on it.  We might win fewer games, but we might come through the season better off for it.

Who's not being patient?  I don't believe many people doubt his ability.  All I see is people calling it a risky pick at #37 overall.  4 of his last 5 seasons were cut short due to injury.  I'd rather they take their time with the guy.  That's a pretty high draft pick that we used and to send him out this early with little practice is a also risky.

He had ACL surgery on his right knee in 2016 after tearing it in practice; right ankle surgery in 2017 after an early-season in-game injury; left ankle surgery in 2018 after an early-season in-game injury; then stayed healthy for 2019 and most of 2020 before he tore his left ACL in the SEC title game Dec. 19

It was an unnecessarily risky pick, I agree. But I've read folks calling him too plodding or a poor pass blocker. He's not been great so far; very easy to assume it's because he hasn't practiced much. Way too early to declare anything either way.

Folks were writing Hargrave's obituary at this time last year.

It may just be me, but I've heard people from different races/genders/etc say racist things about other people.  I won't go into the details, but if you work with people from certain countries, they are less inhibited with their thoughts of other countries/races/religions.

Still....

Agreed. I mentioned that later.

Is there really anything more senseless then some  posters preaching to other posters to give a player "time" or be "patient"?  It's a f-ing message board for f sake.  It's not like our words or thoughts hold meaning.

Give the posters time

wanna here a weird prediction. On Thursday if every talking head on the show picks the Bucs to win we will win. If even one goes Eagles count it as a loss

I’m not sure why you keep asking this as if I’m requesting Sirianni run a 50-50 split. I’m simply saying Dickerson isn’t in the best position to play well considering all the factors we’ve discussed. (With a side note that a pass heavy attack isn’t the best for Hurts either, but we can put that aside).

I don’t care about Dickerson’s struggles as of today. I understand the context of them.

Yes except in this case it's not like all 20+ women met him at the same time or met each other at any point. They all have separate accounts, each meeting with lawyer at separate times.

Yes, I had to cancel my blackface slave auction party.

Seriously, while there's some weird crap on a few college campuses (but greatly exaggerated since big universities are dominated by their business and engineering schools), most of avoiding cancel culture is common sense, decency and good manners:

Don't ogle women (yes, we're men, but one can discretely survey without staring down her cleavage), no grab ass, no flirting with women subordinates, no getting drunk at the office party and hanging over  a girl twenty years your junior.

Avoid racist and homophobic language, not just the N word but stupid references involving watermelons, bending over, etc.

Np means no, not maybe, avoid wrestling matches, **** shaming, etc.

Treat people decently and with respect, and if you're with a bunch of a-holes, find new friends. People who enjoy nasty humor at the expense of "others," especially those without power or money, aren't really good company for the long haul.

Don't e-mail naked pictures of women without their written consent.

Don't F over people just b/c you can, one of the stories I approve of was a firm that would keep job candidates waiting in a room with a receptionist, then afterward quiz her about their behavior toward her - if they were disrespectful and treated her like the hired help, forget about a return call. Some of the biggest s**ts I've come across were sycophants with those above them but a-holes toward staff.

Follow these rules and I doubt you'll get canceled, and if so, cancel the canceller.

You have no idea what's going on at colleges campuses throughout the country.  It is not just at a few institutions; it is widespread and pervasive.

Just using 'N-word", not the actual word, has resulted in the firing of a least two academics that I can recall off the top of my head.

He's in the best position to improve with the play calling asking him to pass block.  I care much more about his ability to stay on the field than anything else right now... but in so staying on the field, he needs to get better.

What does white male have to do with it? White males are the only ones in society and the world that ever say something offensive in private?

Also I have no idea how private emails that he sent 10 years ago when he wasn't even working for the Raiders have "kept him from doing his job".

Little too soon for a victory lap on Taylor.  He's still a giant question mark.  But people are so fed up with Wilson (a Howie band aid), folks are desperate for something different.  He's not necessarily better or worthy of starting.  Singleton was puffed up by many here because he was better than the other dreck, but remains a JAG.

I think they mainly used Taylor against 12 personnel and goal line.  It was still Wilson and Singleton in against other packages.  He had 24 snaps and I think 4 tackles.  Certainly not a breakout game at all or a game that put him on a path towards starting.  It was progress and he did make a couple of nice tackles.  LB is still very much a need on this team.

So the defensive tackle was half the distance away from Hurts as the target?

Did you not see the pictures? On the first photo, Hurts is on the 27 (not sure of the exact yard line, but use that as your starting point.) Reagor is 10 yards away from him on the 37. The DT is on the 31.

In the second frame, the football has been released and goes past Dickerson's left shoulder. Now, you may be wondering, why is the ball going past his left shoulder? does that mean he has spun all the way around and is looking back at the qb? And the answer is yes, that's exactly what happened.

For the ball to be where the OP wanted it to be, Hurts would have had to throw the ball so that, instead of going past Dickerson's left shoulder, it would have had to go past Dickerson's right shoulder. Now go back to photo number one. What was right next to Dickerson's right shoulder in the first frame as Hurts was getting ready to release the ball? If your answer is a defensive tackle, then congrats, you just got a little bit smarter today.
