Re-watched the condensed version of the game, and something sticks out that I couldn't put my finger on earlier.....I really, really hate how dumb our players are.

From Barnett and his seemingly endless penalties and mistakes (though he played well Sunday), to Hurts throwing it out of bounds on an offside play that was a free toss, even if intercepted, to Sanders running out bounds not once, but TWICE after the 2 minute warning when we had a lead. That doesn't even cover Reagor and his stupidity. Then Ward, who can't run a simple pick play (and you have Ertz doing it in week 1 properly, just do what he did goddammit, look back for the ball and they wont call you on it); and finally Singleton taking a stupid penalty on DJ Moore after Moore gave himself up well behind the LOS. Just stupid, stupid plays. I'm not sure if coaching can fix this stuff, as a lot of it is just basic football 101.

I think the most frustrating one is the Hurts throw away. He knew enough that he had the defender nailed for offside, as he motions for the WRs to head upfield.....why, why, why would you throw that ball out of bounds? It's beyond comprehension to me. As a QB, he's gotta know the rules? And, I've seen the thought that he didn't want to throw it out of bounds, but he was just inaccurate and missed....I mean, that's even worse. I was OK to see how he developed this year, but that singular play swung the pendulum so far for me, I'm past the point of no return for him I think.

Barnett, Sanders, Reagor, Hurts, all appear to be very low level football intelligent, which further cracks Howie's drafting process. Stop drafting idiot players.

While I understand this, the issue I have is there are people in the blog that I don't mind discussing this with and I am not looking for an echo chamber of ideas.  I think we should be able to talk about some of these things without getting upset.  I really do not mind differing opinions on issues. I mean it is so frustrating that we as Americans, especially now, are doing nothing but casting stones at each other.  I am as guilty of it at times as others so I am not sitting here blaming anyone.

Thats fair, I have no problem discussing issues in a mature fashion. The problem is so few can do that, most fall into just labeling everyone who disagrees with them. I have zero time for that.

Doesn't excuse justify or minimize white Anericans using slaves.

No one wants to tear apart everything in the name of it.

Toppling over a few statutes of racist traitors isn't tearing everything apart.

Acknowledging our faults as a country helps prevent us from commiting future atrocities.

Last I will say on it.  Slavery in the past does not in any way shape of form excuse modern day racism.  We are also talking about Gruden being sexist and homophobic.  Now that there is info that he sent nude pictures of NFL employees to his buddies ( actual real victims ), this discussion is over.  He deserved what he got, and that is the end of it.

One could argue that this is true for southern plantation society - for the North, it's not so clear.

The article you posted from what I read never denied that those founding fathers who were against slavery didn't own slaves nor weren't benefactors of slavery.

Seems to me the article was arguing more that British law was more to blame for slave trade in America, which would still be a contributing factor in building America, though correct me if I'm wrong as I didn't read the whole article.

QB just can't throw a ball where it's impossible to be caught.  If your assertion is correct then the QB didn't make the proper read, or throw.

You are aware that he had an unblocked DT charging right at him, right?

You are saying he should have done what? The first answer was "throw the ball right into the defensive player." That was clearly the wrong answer.

Now the answer is "go through his progressions and find the open receiver."

That's even dumber.

How about this answer. The play resulted in an incomplete pass. He didn't throw an INT. He didn't take a sack. He didn't expose himself to a massive hit that could have caused a fumble. He got us the outcome that kept us in the game. Punt and let the defense have a fighting chance.

But no, This forum has to turn every incompletion into a referendum on Hurts' entire future. Well, have at it. Keep making dumber and dumber arguments. Just stop quoting me to do so.

How convenient of you to state I'm wrong and ask me to take nonsense elsewhere?

Did you also ask the poster to take his nonsense elsewhere when calling people hyper woke, or did that fit your narrative so you chose to ignore it like you should have my post?

Ok... I'll quote every post that's veering off topic into politically motivated historical revisionism and ask every one to stop posting.   That will be fun for everyone to read, too.

PM me if you want to actually have a conversation.   But, this is not the place for it.

I think you're getting a bit too worked up and defensive about one play; the point JR originally made was there were many plays that were troubling.  The one that troubled me was the INT where there were two easy throws to be made for 15+ yards, and the play where he decided to make a one-handed swipe at a fumble in his own end zone rather than cover it.  These are not a referendum on his future; these are BAD plays.

If you want me to critique that single play to answer your question -- side-step the rush.  Slide within the pocket.  Most QBs are able to do that, reset and go through their reads again.

I think it's fair to say that Hurts stepped up in the 4th quarter, but he was objectively bad if you take the whole game into account.

My quick and only points about Gruden:

1) Gruden - my god you are a stupid idiot - which doesn't surprise me. He deserves what he got.

2) Gruden cant be the only person in all the emails investigated that had typed out improper, or controversial opinions, or shared sexist pictures etc in a private discourse of email.... Cant be the only person. The NFL is /has been a home for prople who committed far worse,  from Murderers to rapists and all kinds of felonies. Lots of the coaches and some of the front office people were one time players in the NFL. Gruden cant be the only one, and unless more are revealed in the future and dealt with, I will firmly believe Gruden was targeted solely for one reason or another. Gruden is guilty of being an idiot, for sure, but he cannot be the only idiot found in the investigation. If he remains the only casualty in this, then he was railroaded.

I don't think he had one this week? Which is actually amazing

Agree, I find it odd that of all the pages and pages of communications in the investigation of WFT the only name to come out was Gruden of all people???

I'm sure the NFL wants to keep the findings of  the investigation on the DL much like they did with destroying the spy gate tapes to protect their image.

Will be Interesting going forward to see what else and how much else is released if at all

The amazing part of this stupidity was he knew it was a free play, correctly roilled out to take his deep shot, and then at the last minute, (knowing it was a free play) throws it out of bounds anyway.

I mean thats an incredible display of incompetence. Still shocked by that.  Only 4 possible outcomes from a free play, all of which are positive:

Throw the ball up and it's caught

Throw the ball up and it's  intercepted in which case the penalty negate the throw

Throw the ball up and you get a PI

Or it goes incomplete and you take the penalty.

C'mon ... he used two 'reallys'; that didn't sway you?

I like that Hurts got the team into the end zone twice in the 4th quarter to win the game -- that's good stuff for sure.  The 15 completions in the first half for 74 yards?  Not so good from him and Sirianni.  I expected 150-200 passing yards in the second half when it's that obvious the defense is keying on the lateral throws and screens.

I agree we are stupid as a team. But is everyone stupid or is it just our players.

Speaking of Barnett...

What is it? 11 straight weeks (going back to last year) without a sack?

Another Howie gem.

This.  You put the ball in play and see if the defense will compound the 5 yard penalty mistake with a 15 yard or spot foul penalty.

And yet still he had to run to move the ball finally
