A reporter shouldn't be having his source as the editor of his story. That kinda goes against all journalistic integrity.

There's editing and then there's confirming facts.

Ok...thought they said the other day he was in the building?  Regardless, if it was a family issue,  I'd think he'd be with his family.

He was in the building once the day after he came back but hasn't been there since. And yes, I agree with the second part.

Without Washington there is no USA. Regardless of how he personally would have felt, he is deserving of much more than a statue

BUT, he also owned slaves.   Hence why I asked, should we hold him to the same revisionist history standard of being a racist?

I dislike revisionist history and deplore political correctness and cancel culture but statues, monumentsand naming things to celebrate individuals is silly.

There would have been no USA without Washington, who was the richest man in America at the time and mostly silent during the discussion about declaring independence?

Because he led a revolutionary army? (Most statues are him on a horse.)  He wasn’t the only general in charge of colonial troops  and a little history would suggest that if the Conway Cabal had succeeded placed Gates in charge.  You have Schuyler winning in the NE with support from Arnold and Ten Breckinridge. Lincoln overall in the South.  Lafayette and Pulaski with Washington at Valley Forge. (People tend to forget Pulaski, which is a shame as before he died he fought in many major campaigns. He and Lee were keys to use of Calvary that remained in use for the next hundred years.).  Marion, Pickens and Lighthorse Harry Lee (yep, Robert E. Lee’s dad) with their lightning strikes in the south.   Really Jefferson’s and more especially Franklin’s work at getting the French involved is probably most impactful in winning the war.  Well that and frankly, England was tired of the cost. Franklin also encouraged Pulaski to come here.

Sure, but in the email he tells him he's filing it to ESPN after Allen's final revisions. It was a step beyond just confirming facts, which should just be clarifying certain facts anyway. Not "here's me whole story".

Fair.  Clearly something Sirianni failed to teach Shefter.

Side note: Mount Vernon was a really cool place to visit. They do a pretty good job of acknowledging his history with slaves.

Love the wine and distillery and the view is spectacular.  Biggest pot (hemp) grower in the Americas. Monticello is nice too.  At both you can see their interests in agriculture and at Monticello, Jefferson’s in science and invention.  They do a good job acknowledging slaves and Jefferson’s relationship with one in particular.  If you are in VA, go visit.

I went a few years ago.  Very worthwhile trip.   Nice treatment of the slave quarters and acknowledgement of it.

For full context, Schefter's email said

"Please let me know if you see anything that should be added, changed, tweaked. Thanks, Mr. Editor, for that and the trust. Plan to file this to ESPN at 6am."

The subject of the story was also the negotiations between the NFL and NFLPA, which further makes the email problematic vs a fluff piece about something to do with just Washington. Its also a sketchy way to get in good with someone to get further sources down the road.

So is Schefter next to be cancelled?

This erasing of history is right out of 1984, welcome to the dystopian future

Pretending that a statue will make someone racist is peak idiocy.

Statues have history too, and purpose. That purpose is not always benevolent and honorific.

What was the question asked of him... "Why is your haircut so stupid?"

I worked at a few places where a reporter would send a story for clarification and context, but I never would feel comfortable doing that. The closest I would come to that was to read a paragraph or two to ensure that I accurate.

Hemp was widely (and is still) used for making ropes.

I also went to Arlington House and took a tour.  It's a free tour, but you need to arrange ahead of time and have a reservation.  It connects the dots between Lee and Washington.   The land that was selected for Washington D.C. was selected by Washington himself, as he was very well aware of that region of Virginia...  the land where Arlington National Cemetery is located (right across the Potomac from the Lincoln Memorial) was owned either by Washington himself or was connected to his wife's family.   It was inherited by Washington's step-grandson George Washington Custis, who developed the land, and built the house starting in 1802.  Great double feature if in that region of VA to check that out along with Mount Vernon.

If you take the Eagles out it’s down to 2 more penalties per game.

Derek Barnett in a prime-time game against Tom Brady...he might have 4 penalties tomorrow.

Next they will acknowledge Obama’s family history of slave ownership. It’s all silly and has to be taken in context. Otherwise, just cancel everything.

Many times I have had articles written about me, where the journalist, sent me a copy pre publication for my approval, now granted thats more of interview style publication than a reporter doing a news type story.

Hurts could have a nice night , the Bucs are in very bad shape on D

2 starting CBs out

best backer out

JPP will play but is banged up and has missed time already

Winfield still in concussion protocol

now can they shut down the Bucs O ? That’s the question

Eagles pull off a stunner and handle the Bucs tomorrow. Eagles 33 Bucs 24. Smith and Watkins both have 40+ yard TD catches.

@LeanMeanGM

We can definitely score 30 against the Bucs

Crazy thought, but maybe let Goedert run more routes…
