I don't follow college ball much but what I've heard/read it seems this could be another 2016 for college QBs. The consensus best (Goff & Wentz) have turned out to be not all that good. And no, Watson can go elsewhere.

Honestly, I was never all that hyped with Wentz.  Something about a guy playing QB for only a couple of seasons in college just felt off. I immediately thought he'd be too inexperienced/raw.

Soft training camp and preseason equals a soft team. They had the softest training camp EVER for an Eagles team. Just look at all the undisciplined plays and penalties and you see the results. They did it to avoid injuries. They got injuries anyway, because that's just how it is in this sport. They should have had a tough, Philadelphia style camp, like Reggie and co had. Coddle athletes, and you get a bunch of soft, entitled Ben Simmons' rolling off the production line. Go old school, beeeeyyyaaaaches!!

And coming from a small school. Biggest fish in a small pond.  Some work out - Kurt Warner and Tony Romo come to mind - but I don't see it as a positive.

Sadly…I think he would come back if we asked.

I'll bet he'd attach some conditions.

  1. Jeffrey and Howard, butt the eff out of day to day matters.
  2. No, I"m not going to call 80+% passing plays

I didn't see much of the game. A couple of series in the 1st, but that's all. But looking at the stats, we only ran the ball 12 times? 9 of those by Hurts?  We only ran with our running backs 3 times?

Was it ever that bad under Doug? I'll have to go look at the stats for the KC game in 2017, that's one that comes to mind where we hardly ran the ball.

Head coaching 101 for Dummies:

To slow down an opponents explosive offense, do you you....

1. Throw the ball every time you have the chance, even if you know your offense can keep up
2. Run the ball a lot to slow down the game and keep the opponents offense off the field
3. Just punt on 3rd downs, it's over anyway

"Siri, can you give us the correct answer to that basic question, please?"

I'm not saying I want Watson. What I'm saying is I wanted the Eagles to tank for him in 2016 so they could get him in 2016.

They keep preaching every off season that they are going to get younger, then do the opposite. They just can't help themselves and make the same mistakes over and over and never learn from them. Nothing changes if nothing changes.

And this is why the team ultimately during Howie and Luries tenure have been a decent side but too often fallen short. They do enough to be in the play offs but not enough to be a legit contender.

Awful performance by the Eagles. The Cowboys got off to a hot start and didn't look back. Hurts was not playing well; his accuracy was off, and he's still throwing long-balls too short. And yet Sirianni kept calling pass plays. The Eagles needed to control the ball more, to keep the defense off the field. They were all gassed by the 2nd quarter. Beat in every phase.

What a smelly turd that was too... Got to flush it and move on.

The stench of that turd is going to linger for a long time. I can still smell it on Sirianni.

Flush YOU and the coach at the end of the season if you keep dropping these "deuces."

Hurts had a bad game last night.  He is saying all the right things and taking the responsibility.  That does not change the picture that his game needs to be improved significantly, and in a hurry, for the team to be competitive.  The misplaced throws and disconnected with the receivers are obvious issues, as if they have not practised together.  Worse is that he lost trust in the plays called and the receivers to make the catch.  He would rather run the ball himself and often.  If he does not make the yardage, at least that is no INT against him.  It seems that he has no faith in the system and rather rely on himself.  Unfortunately, he is not good enough to carry the whole team on himself.

Siri and the coaches have to work with Hurts and get him to play within the system.  If no improvement, his starter roll would change pretty quickly.

There were many penalties on the team, both offense and defense.  Fault starts mostly.  Some of the illegal downfield were the result of Hurts taking the RPO too long before making the throw.  These are self-inflected damages that need to be corrected.

And somehow Howie will F it up even more in the offseason.

Watching Howie screw up a top 3 pick will be epic.

How about they will beat the jets?

We will win 3 more games. That will be one of them. Maybe.

So we got a coach with even less experience than Doug. Well that worked out well. If we're going to keep on losing, we should at least get a coach who gives interesting witty press conferences.

I watched the first half up to the 2 minute warning.

Everything you wrote is pretty much true, but the troubling part here is the guy responsible for the rebuild. Howie’s the one who selected these young players. He had a hand in selecting this coach. His hands are all over this rebuild with the suspect young talent and the  aging brittle veterans. As long as he’s running things it could get far worse before it gets better.

That’s absolutely true. I failed to mention it, but it’s not lost on me. If he has hand in next years picks, we’re screwed. Regardless of how this season ends up, he can’t be part of this franchise, but that’s on Lurie in the end.

The hilarious thing is 2 teams broke the record for the least amount of rushing attempts and it wasn't us.

And against the chiefs sproles ran 10 times Smallwood 3 times and Wentz 4 times.

And that nearly caused a revolt, as I recall. 3 rushes by the running backs is just mind blowing. They can't use the excuse that the Cowboys shut the run down, so 'what's the point of continuing to try?', they didn't even begin to try.

is it possible...no matter how unlikely...that This game will FINALLY convince the FO how important good linebackers are?

Nelson and Slay pretty much locked down the outside.....and with two safeties high...that left the underneath...which Dak was happy to exploit..because our LBs can't cover and are late to the play everytime....put in a stud MLB and an above average OLB and a lot of those short dump offs to the TE are sniffed out or stopped for minimal gain...

but yeah...it will probably never happen

You would hope so. Linebackers are very important in a cover 2 scheme.

The organization has not drafted a LB in the 1st round since 1979.

and I sound like a broken record...but there was a time not too long ago when our LBs were the envy of the league:
Carlos Emmons, Trotter, Shawn Barber

granted we only drafted Trotter...but were willing to spend money to shore up the LB core...yet now it seems like Howie ONLY cares about DTs

Carlos emmons hasn't been here since 2003. 20 yrs is a long ass time from having good linebackers. Shortly after that they slowly went away from drafting or signing quality linebackers. Hell they ditched Trotter because they didn't want to pay him big money. This organization clearly doesn't care about the linebacker position. Also shows in the defensive coordinators that they sign because they don't put a premium on them either.

Hopefully Gannon is different because you absolutely need quality linebackers in a cover 2 like you said.

Actually looking that up I didn't realize Emmons was a 7th round pick... That probably didn't help in their thinking they don't need to draft them early ( yes I know Emmons was signed as a FA but still)

You know how the NFL is. This is the game they probably win they aren’t supposed to. People will be calling them contenders. 😂🤣😂

Siri said that was the game plan to defend the deep passes at the expense of the middle.  He commented that Dak was taking what the Eagles was giving them.  So, they were not asking much from the LBs.  Don't think that is enough to change the deep-rooted idea of not investing in the LB positions.  If anything, the CB/DB is the area that needs a lot of skilled players.

Sticks defense, 25 yards back. 🤣 Why can't these D coords not just have a balanced D?? They go extreme, one way or another.
