That's the picture I've put together based on what you've shared here and trying to inform myself on this. And I can buy that the US is the world's marginal producer because somewhere around 10% of the world's oil can be produced with US shale and tight resources, but that those resources are tapped mainly when the price makes it profitable to do so.

What I still cannot accept is that the US on the whole is a marginal producer of oil. Our base production is just too high; even without shale we are a major producer of oil.

So yes - we have probably the most control over marginal production because our shale and tight reserves are pretty high and we've tapped them before. I just don't think that makes us, at least within the definition TEW posted, a "marginal producer" of oil generally speaking. But I think that's a different argument.

It's a stupid semantic argument, but I was high and feeling feisty.

Dude, everybody saw it.

The US isn't the marginal producer. If you were arguing that the shale industry was the marginal producer as Vikas stated then the discussion would have gone differently - but you didn't.

You said the US is a marginal producer of oil. Which is false.

Only one of those apply, thank you.

You're not stupid, but you aren't nearly as smart as you think 90 percentile.

It's not my fault you lack reading comprehension.

Does the US produce a small amount of oil?

You never said "US shale is a marginal industry within its domestic production". You didn't even mention shale until I started questioning the US as a "marginal producer".

What Vikas said in clear terms was that the US shale industry is a marginal producer.

You said "the US is a marginal producer".

It's not my fault you didn't communicate well.

Communicating badly then acting smug when you're misunderstood is not cleverness.

And deregulation.

(I am not against deregulation. Truckers in 1980 were getting inflated rates of pay relative to the marketable skills they brought to the table. Suggesting a trucker is worth $120k in 2021 is absurd. I respect the job, but it's not one that should command a salary that high.)

Historically I’d agree that war is the usual outcome. Not sure if we can do the usual WW with nuclear weapons. Might be civil.

Says who ? You ? Try it...... get really good at it and then form an opinion.  Having done it for a few years. I have sympathy for those guys and gals.....considering that they bring prolly 70 percent of everything you consume to you in some fashion...... stop and think how much they are needed.

What doesn't command such a high salary is what brings us all here.  Athletes.... along with actors and the like.

I don't doubt they work hard, and their job is important.

But it's also a job that most any able bodied person can do. Which makes the candidate pool quite large and individual drivers fairly replaceable.

You're wrong there. Long haul trucking isn't a job its a lifestyle. A lifestyle most can't handle.

Its still driving a truck

that whole analysis is silly anyway

From my experience, most can’t drive a F’ing Hyundai Sonata, but don’t let me stop you from jerking yourself off.

Literally everywhere?

WCW  -- "World Civil War."

Or maybe most developed countries don't have the stomach for it and break up pseudo peacefully on cultural and ethnic lines? That would be in line with history.
