Biden is draining the SPR yet again — up to 15M barrels — for purely political purposes right before the midterms.

Meanwhile we need more refining and production capacity along with financing of those projects which, of course, his party fights to the death at every turn.

We better not have a real emergency, like a ME crisis or the escalation of a war. Because we are digging ourselves into a very vulnerable position.

Inflation has given businesses an opportunity to test for market resistance to price hikes. It's not surprising.

Yeah. Companies exist to make as much money as possible. It is the entire goal of their existence.

Absolutely true. Yet today's consumers are being raked by current economic conditions. What's going on with large corporations? Let them eat cake, they say.

Same as it ever was; they won't care until the bottom falls out. They can't help themselves.

Don’t like it then don’t pay for it. If demand drops enough, then so do prices.

Economics. It’s MAGIC.

"We have a fiduciary responsibility to our shareholders”

The biggest driver of inflation ever. It’s also a true statement, beneficial to most peoples retirement plans and completely ignored by morons who want to politicize every single thing they can.

I agree with Vikas… mostly… stop buying over priced products and search out other options when available. Consumable products with a local made option are typically cheaper or slower to gouge prices than large corporate name brand products. Snack chips are the best example I have, name brand chips at my grocery store went from around $3 a bag to around $5 a bag a few months ago. A local chip company kept their prices the same because they don’t have teams of people researching maximum pricing/profit ratios. SHOP LOCAL EVERY CHANCE YOU GET.

There is not enough price competition in most markets to curb the price gouging we’re seeing because the "Mom and Pop” local shops have been overrun by corporate America.

Healthcare and energy needs are a whole other mess pot where free market competition is gone and without some sort of intervention raise their prices so high they affect other markets.

Would anyone have expected 30 years ago that healthcare/insurance would rival mortgage payments as a families largest expense?

One of the algorithm’s developers told ProPublica that leasing agents had "too much empathy” compared to computer generated pricing.

Pretty much the free market pricing eating itself because you have to have shelter… who cares how you eat or clothe yourself… we’re taking ALL your money for housing…. or healthcare…. or energy…. Because you HAVE to have it… we can charge whatever we want!!!

Right. The idea of "just don't buy something if you don't like the price" can't be equally applied to every sector, particularly the most essential ones.

Spare ribs went up 2 dollars per pound over night

Gas went from 3.39 to 3.71 in about 2 weeks

WERE BACK BABY!

I don't know about spare ribs. But a month ago gas was at $3.674, and now it's at $3.836.

Diagnosis? BDS.

Edit: and FWIW a week ago gas was $3.913. It spiked a bit over the last couple weeks but is trending back down now.

The nice little reserve in my regular operating checking account has vanished over the last couple of months. Including the tax refund.  This caused by raised prices of EVERYTHING, and my own spending for things for the cottage.  Now it's time to buckle down as it seems this will not get any better anytime soon.  I have close to 3/4 tank of fuel; have some electric heat, and even propane for an emergency.  Getting ready to empty the freezer since there are things in there that Mr. Di bought.  They're too old to taste good so they're going.  It really f's with me trying to cook and feed just myself when my entire life consisted of cooking for a family and parties up to 20.  A lot of waste.  I just threw 2 tomatoes out yesterday.  Bananas too. Even if I buy just 3 that 3rd one may get chucked. I no longer eat salad, there's just no way it will keep long enough for me to consume it.  Going back to cooking and freezing in smaller portions to see if this helps the check book.  I HATE having to transfer money for everyday needs.  I'm only 1 income, so yeah, recessions sucks!

OK. Let's educate with a real world example of liberal economic illiteracy.

For decades in Oakland, buildings built pre-1983 have been subject to rent control. This only allowed rents to be raised at a maximum of CPI. Landlords entered into this deal willingly and abided by it for decades as CPI generally was below 2%. This lead to massively below market rents, especially as Oakland gentrified and an influx of people crossed the bay from San Francisco.

Now that CPI is over 8%, the City Council passed a bill limiting rent increases to the lower of 3% of 60% of CPI, because dammit -- people have a need to live. So now landlords in older buildings (who tend to be individuals, not corporations), have costs skyrocketing (labor, maintenance, borrowing costs) and can't recoup that from rents even though they agreed not to raise rents for decades.

The end conclusion? Landlords are now looking to file for bankruptcy. And what can they do in bankruptcy you ask? Why...REJECT THEIR TENANT LEASES, THROW THEM OUT AND RE-PRICE THE UNITS TO MARKET RATES. Which is exactly what is beginning to happen.

Liberals -- the most economically illiterate clowns on the planet.

I thought I was doing well by buying any sort of pasta and a good jar of sauce.  Just boil enough for me and wham-dinner.  It's true you are what you eat, as it shot my triglycerides reading up over 500.  Had to cut back on eating that too!  It's come down, still not normal but better.  Now, you can't find a decent sauce in a jar that hasn't gone up like $2.  F-That, I bought the canned tomatoes and made my own.

My hands are already shaking heading out to the card store.  Have you seen the price of those lately?  It's paper with writing on it!!!!!  I would dig around for something, but they are special.  My good friend just lost her brother (59-cancer) and cousin having 1st baby.  Both events same day.

My kids and I just booked a trip to FL for Thanksgiving.  Don't care, it's only money still have to live the best life I can.  Can't let being poor affect my mental health too much. I have back up money, I just try not to use it.

Yeah. 2 bags of groceries the other days was like 120 bucks. Food for two dinners (for four) and a couple snacks for the kids. It's crazy.

I always make my own sauce. Usually get 8  jars (quarts i believe) from each batch and use one a week.
