Look, Germany as well as Japan have a lot of pacifists in their population and government. It’s made them "soft” and hesitant on anything war related. Part of it is pressure from the outside, but also internally. They’ve also hidden behind the narrative of "we would do more, but we can’t because of WWII”. It’s time to move on from that narrative at this stage IMO.

For all the "eh we’re not violent anymore” talk, Germany sure does love to actually sell arms, though.

Being one of the biggest arms sellers really has nothing to do with equipping and sending their own military into conflict. The German military is quite the joke compared to the time of the Cold War.

Arms sales are up and the biggest buyer in 2024 was Ukraine. Also a bunch of arms are going to allies, including the US and Israel.

Didn’t say they are all pacifists now, but there is a definitely a significant number. There is the "Left Party” in the legislative branch and they are completely against anything having to do with conflict/war. Agree, that there is still too much Russian money flowing in & that has been one of the biggest miscalculations after the fall of the Soviet empire. There’s also a big problem of all the "German-Russians” inside the country at a time like this. Who are they aligned with?! It seemed that every Russian who owned a German shepherd was allowed citizenship and I’m certain that some still have their allegiance to Russia.
