This is awesome news!

Now, I'm guessing the workaround for the Germans will be to pay existing accounts held by Gazprom at non-Russian banks. I'm assuming they must have some. So while the Germans could pay Gazprom by crediting to their account at say Citibank, that money would be frozen and couldn't make its way to Russia.

I believe oil sales are excluded from the sanctions. Which takes some bite out.

Rather large bite, honestly.

Germany has lost a lot of face through this whole thing. Or at least they should.

Too late. They’re culpable now.

On the issue of SWIFT, assume Russia and China have previously come up with a unique method of payment for transactions? Otherwise, how is China supposedly going to trade with Russia now? By sending suitcases full of cash?

I think Russia and China have their own separate system in place.

These cities were taken by Russia?

Russians were there and bombing the sheet out of them. They’ve been removed supposedly.

Welp, This could be the begging of WWIII, but the Russian Military is really no match.

Finland's US ambassador responds to Russian threats over potential NATO membership

Finland’s ambassador to the U.S. boasted about his country’s strong military and said he didn’t see an "immediate threat" after a Russian official suggested military action if the Nordic nation were to join NATO.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said Finland and Sweden would "face some military and political consequences" if they joined.

"We are not in a position that we will get scared because of one statement," Ambassador Mikko Hautala told Fox News. "We have one of the best armies in Europe."

"We have strong defense," he added. "We have really good international partners."

"We don't see any direct immediate threat," Hautala added, though he noted that Finland must "take it seriously" because of the conflict in Ukraine.

Hautala also predicted that the invasion wouldn’t spill over into other European nations.

Finland is one of many countries that condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Something like 60% of oil purchased by Italy is Russian. They're going to fire up coal plants in the interim. Harder to pull a nuclear plant out of mothballs.

I don’t understand Putins strategy unless he really thought Ukraine would immediately surrender at the first sign of danger, which doesn’t make sense either.

I'm reading more about it, and it may be more complicated. They may allow SWIFT for oil but the amounts are going to be scrutinized to ensure oil can flow but that profits to Russia will be negated. I have no idea how they figure on doing that, or why Gazprom/etc. would even take part.

This is one of many areas where the liberals, the Squad, and Biden are f'ing us. There is no excuse to not renew the leases, shut down the pipeline, and ever import Iranian or Russian oil here in the US, which we have done in the past year. We need to keep our coal plants open as well. When solar and wind become much more reliable we can talk.

Megalomaniac surrounds himself with weak yes-men who never want to disappoint big boss man, and big boss men then overestimates his reach and untouchability.

Humanity has seen this movie before. Just not with someone who has access to nuclear weapons.

Is anyone concerned if they fail in Ukraine that he says screw it and just launches

I'm not really sure how liberals factor in here, unless you're talking coal. And even there the EPA had much less of an effect on coal's marginalization than cheap natural gas.

We've been importing significant amounts of oil from Russia for over a decade. This isn't new.

Maybe tactical nukes. I doubt anything big.

Somewhat. But I have to think there are enough rational actors around him that he would finally issue an order that would be disobeyed by those under him.

I know China had reached out to US contacts when Trump was going nuts between Nov 3 and Jan 20, to be reassured that Trump wouldn't be allowed do something incredibly irrational in a desperate attempt to hold onto power. I'm 100% certain China has done the same here.

To install a puppet government, the Ruski's will have to hold Kyiv. That's when the Molotov cocktails and AK-4's and RPG's will be put to good use against the occupiers. No way they hold it, IMO.

I'm really impressed by the Javelin anti tank missiles and the Stinger anti aircraft missiles helping to keep Ukraine in the fight.

Anyone ever think that perhaps we might use awacs over Poland to fly in covert flights of F35s for hit and run missions?  I mean, the Russian certainly don’t have the surface to air capabilities to even see a stealth plane in Ukraine.  Any thoughts to this at all?  Plausible?

I mean, there have been a ton of destroyed Russia columns and tanks….makes you wonder
