WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. citizens should consider leaving Russia immediately on commercial flights, the State Department said on Sunday, citing an increasing number of airlines canceling flights and countries closing their airspace to Russia after its invasion of Ukraine.

"U.S. citizens should consider departing Russia immediately via commercial options still available," said a security alert dated Feb. 27 on the web site of U.S. embassy in Moscow.

It has asked U.S. citizens to have "a contingency plan that does not rely on U.S. government assistance."

My girlfriend is Ukrainian. So I've heard a lot about their culture, politics and daily life, even pre-invasion. And I don't think this is about nations that haven't been supportive. It's more about...how can I put this nicely...a "developing" country that kinda doesn't care for people who don't look like them.

I don't doubt that. But one thing I'd say is that racism among the American Russian-Ukrainian communities is much more strident than it is in their home countries, mainly because there just aren't very many non-whites.

But there's definitely some. 

I based my above opinion on how Ukrainians have tilted at reporters and media coverage depending on where it's from.

I’ve always been of the mindset that to be president you should have had to serve in the military.  Even if it’s just peeling potatoes.
