Bombing the sheet out of Belarus would be a good start.

That's tricky, because it really hurts your moral authority at this stage if now the U.S. is seen slaughtering Belorussian civilians. It also seems like a backdoor to a world war, a la Serbia 1914. I don't think we're very far from the point where military intervention should be considered, but we're not there yet, given the potential to massively expand hostilities beyond our control.

Has that been confirmed?  doesn’t surprise me. Just curious if speculation or not. would think there would be safe guards

There's still a chain of command. There are humans on the other end of your hypothetical dead man's switch. It's ultimately a question of loyalty to Putin which I wager is far more likely to wither after he's dead.

It's a risk for sure, but it's the right risk to take.  Belarus made a gross miscalculation throwing their lot in with Russia.  They're certainly not a world power and Putin's not going to launch a nuke to protect them, which is really the only card he has against a global resistance against him.  I'm not saying rolling troops in there and I'm also not talking about hitting Russia.  But bombing military targets in Belarus?  Absolutely.

Perhaps lob a crap ton of tomahawks from the med?

The issue is that rebalances happen quarterly and it’s so out of norm for index providers. Totally doable, they’re just dragging feet. It’s a real kick in balls for major investors of Emerging Markets, but is what it is.

Emerging markets are inherently high-risk.

If we can be surgical in striking the targets, I could be in on that. I don't think Putin would go nuclear over Belarus, but it could potentially lead to direct engagements between American and Russian soldiers, and then it snowballs from there.

Agree, but Putin has basically killed or imprisoned  anyone he doesnt trust.

Even among those closest to him that he trusts most, I bet a decent amount of them are questioning what the F he's thinking right now.

Buddy was asking why the hell we haven't stopped buying Russian oil to stop "funding Putin's conquest." I didn't really have a good answer for him, other than that I think the sanctions will have effectively frozen oil monies, so even if we're still buying the oil, they can't get the dollars. I'm not totally sure if that's accurate, but it was a good question. We need to totally stick them in a corner financially.

Because then everyone would be complaining about higher gas prices. When Biden said sanctioning Russia would affect everyday Americans, people freaked out. Because we've become a nation of entitled pansies.

Fo sho'. I said to him "Republicans everywhere would be like: 'But muh gas prices!'" and "Could you imagine WWII-style rationing with these people? They'd be all over YouTube every day, crying in their F350s, backwards hat, Oakleys and all."

Just saw a poll from Fox News that 73% stated they would be ok with higher gas prices over Russia.......that says A LOT!

I think attitudes have been changing once video and images have come in showing how the people of Ukraine are being affected.

I paid $3.78 in Philly yesterday.

Yeah, that 40 mile long convoy should become the Highway of Death.

He really seems to be just an amazing guy overall, and leader.

 Yes, cause only Republicans complain about higher consumer prices. I'd hoped this would be one thread topic on which we could all be unified, regardless of political spectrum.

Pretty much the only people I hear griping about gas prices are Republicans, like it's not even close ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have simply accepted the fact that a capital-intensive, non-renewable energy source and inelastic commodity will only continue to increase dramatically in price over the years, and particularly during times of global crisis. It is what it is. I hardly even pay attention to gas prices when I fill up.
