Imperialism is old. So is the Cold War. Putin is foolish to revive them.

Both the US and China are imperialistic or have imperialistic ambitions. All great powers are. Saying Putin revived these concepts is naive.

This needs to happen on a much bigger scale. I hope Ukraine gets even more drones.

Encouraging Ukrainian civilians to use molotovs was really evil and stupid.

This is interesting.  Yesterday these AWACS were focusing on the area circled in red and did constant figure 8s in that area.  Looks like this one started there and then was repositioned closer to the Baltics where it is currently beginning its figure 8 surveillance(blue circle)...

You are aware the USSR split up, right?

Once Ukraine's in NATO, no one's scared of the Russian army going toe-to-toe with ours.  If they were before this debacle, they certainly aren't now.

Don't think we're being given an accurate assessment by the press about Russia's game plan here, or about everything that is happening on the ground and in the air.  If the Russians wanted to take out the entire country, it could have been pretty much leveled by now.  Ukraine needs to be a buffer state between NATO forces and Russia.

The planes move not only where stuff is moving, but where things might move, or where somebody thinks we should be looking.

I agree with Trump on this one:

We all know deep down you'd prefer Ukrainians to just roll over and let Russia take over. There's no need for window dressing.

One thing is clear. The vaunted Ruski air force has not gained air superiority over Ukraine, yet.

Ukraine armed forces have been striking that long line of Russian troops heading to Kyiv while the Russians have used thermobaric weapons against Ukrainian cities, the head of Ukraine’s defense intelligence agency tells Military Times.

"We are striking the enemy’s columns,” Brig. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov told Military Times in an exclusive interview Wednesday morning. "We burn many columns of the enemy.”

The strikes, he said, are being conducted by Ukraine Su-24 and Su-25 fighter jets, artillery and missile barrages.

We all know American citizens don't have a history of standing up to invaders

This dude is a joke.

Yeah, and if the Russians invaded the USA for instance, I guess it would be stupid for American Citizens to do the same. Some people you just have to look at in awe and wonder.

This was predictable. Encouraging people to engage in suicidal behavior so that you can gain political advantage is cruel and gutless.

That's the kind of "leaders" the West has these days- cowards and fools.

Ukraine forces stop Russia taking key airfield near Kyiv 'they'd wanted since day one'

https://www.yahoo.com/news/ukraine-forces-stop-russia-taking-key-airfield-near-kyiv-theyd-wanted-since-day-one-081124644.html

Russia has yet to take a key airfield in Ukraine they thought they'd capture within a day, the UK's Ministry of Defence has said.

Vladimir Putin launched an all-out attempt to invade Ukraine on Thursday, but according to intelligence reports his troops has yet to make any significant gains as Ukrainians desperately fight them off.

Russia had claimed to have taken Hostomel Airport – also known as Antonov Airport – on Thursday.

The strategically vital airport, just 10km outside of Kyiv, has a long runway which can land heavy-lift transport planes, potentially meaning Russia could airlift soldiers to the outskirts of the capital.

But Ukraine snatched it back within hours as Russian forces attempted to take a number of locations across the country.

Only you, and your ilk, would describe citizens who are defending their nation, and their leaders, who unlike many, are talking the talk, are cowards and fools.

You are shameful cretins with all the bravery of all trolls.

None. Pathetic curs.

Definitely a Kremlin talking point, but there might be some basis for it. I admittedly don't really know much at all about what happened in 2014, but here's what Wikipedia says:

Parliamentary vote

On 21 February, an agreement between president Yanukovych and the leaders of the parliamentary opposition was signed that called for early elections and the formation of an interim unity government. The following day, Yanukovych fled from the capital ahead of an impeachment vote.

The vote took place on 22 February 2014, 328 of 447 members of the Ukrainian parliament (MPs)—or about 73% of the MPs—voted to "remove Viktor Yanukovych from the post of president of Ukraine" on the grounds that he was unable to fulfill his duties[190][18] and to hold early presidential elections on 25 May.[18][191][19][20][21] The vote came an hour after Yanukovych said in a televised address that he would not resign. He subsequently declared himself to still be "the legitimate head of the Ukrainian state elected in a free vote by Ukrainian citizens".[23]

The constitutionality of Yanukovych's removal from office has been questioned by constitutional experts.[192] According to Daisy Sindelar from Radio Free Europe, the impeachment may have not followed the procedure provided by the constitution: "t is not clear that the hasty February 22 vote upholds constitutional guidelines, which call for a review of the case by Ukraine's Constitutional Court and a three-fourths majority vote by the Verkhovna Rada -- i.e., 338 lawmakers." The vote, as analyzed by Sindelar, had ten votes less than those required by the constitutional guidelines. However, Sindelar noted in the same article that, "That discrepancy may soon become irrelevant, with parliament expected to elect a new prime minister no later than February 24." The decision to remove Yanukovich was supported by 328 deputies.[191][194][19][195]

Although the legislative removal by an impeachment procedure would have lacked the number of votes required by Ukraine's constitution,[193] the resolution did not follow the impeachment procedure but instead established that Yanukovych "withdrew from his duties in an unconstitutional manner" and cited "circumstances of extreme urgency",[191][194] a situation for which there was no stipulation in the then-current Ukrainian constitution.[196]

Two days later Ukraine's parliament dismissed five judges of the Constitutional Court for allegedly violating their oaths, who were then investigated for alleged malpractice.[197]

Yanukovych maintained that his replacement was a coup and continued to make statements from an official perspective.[198][199]

Disavowal by party[edit]

Yanukovych was eventually disowned by the Party of Regions. In a statement issued by Oleksandr Yefremov, parliamentary faction leader, the party and its members "strongly condemn[ed] the criminal orders that led to human victims, an empty state treasury, huge debts, shame before the eyes of the Ukrainian people and the entire world."[200][201][202]

On the same day that parliament removed Yanukovych from office, it voted to authorize the release of his rival Yulia Tymoshenko from a prison hospital.[203] S

These kinds of claims often take life through half-truths. Can anyone parse this? It's a little confusing.
