Question. If the Ukraine civilians are fighting back, using rockets, etc... are they still considered civilians as opposed to militant? As in, is it still considered a war crime to bomb civilians if its those civilians that are blowing up tanks and shooting planes down with rockets?

If they did it in the 40s, why not?

Risk of getting downed and drawn into the conflict.

Definitely seems a man who had this situation well calculated.

Edit: there are really only two words I can think of in response to this.

Here they are in Russian: пошёл на хуй

The west gave him no choice, really.  Plus who the F put that huge nuclear power plant in the way?  Ds

My guess is that civilians aren't engaging much at this stage. Weapons that take down tanks and especially aircraft would require a level of training that probably means professional soldiers are the primary combatants. That will change when things progress to urban warfare, which is probably part of why Russia is targeting so many civilian areas now - they want to scare people out of the fight.

True. Are you thinking they could get caught in the crossfire, or do you believe that a Russian pilot would intentionally down an American plane carrying humanitarian aid?

Intent is tough to judge. Iran accidentally shot down their own civilian airliner a couple years ago. Fog of war and all that.

Interesting perspective.

Starting to think maybe Putin didn't game this out all the way.

This is an interesting read from back in November (when nobody except our top-10 maybe top-5 of all time president Biden was on it like Hunter with a cocaine holding hooker).

If basically states that the Russian army is powerful but cannot sustain its strength logistically. When it ventures too far from railroads it weakens considerably, and is unable to sustain land grabs without stepping back and reorganizing.

Ukraine seems to be using a playbook (probably from NATO) that exploits this.

I figured the ones actually fighting are ones with some type of military experience

The civilians that are fighting are only defending themselves IMO

Didn't see the tweet about it being critically damaged. Just that it was hit and was on fire. There was a tweet last night that was posted that said there were no rise in radiation levels

Kind of sucks for the Russians just living there that wanted no part of the war

it was a baiting post.

Ukraine had at least some of the reactors safely shut down as the fighting approached. There was a fire from shelling but it was contained and never really a danger.

But it's understandable to both exploit it to your advantage when you're being invade by a ishbag and simply for the media to fear people into gluing their eyeballs to their station.

If you were cheering the citizens taking up arms, then you have a tough time selling rockets into civilian areas as foul play.
