Russia arms separatists making war in Donbas since 2014. That's bad enough. Then this guy supports further war in Ukraine, putting more cities in danger, killing even more people. Yeah. GTFOH.

I'm wondering if there's a point where a nation like Poland has seen enough and enters the war independently outside of NATO.

I have no idea if there is enough public support for that kind of move in Poland, or what their military capabilities are. But they've been among the strongest supporters.

I don’t think they will. The public support to help Ukrainians is huge. My wife and I donated blankets and some other supplies via my mother in law. She also donated, as well as my brother in law. People are leaving their own homes to give them to Ukrainians to stay in, as the Poles stay with family or something. Even with doing all that I do not think they want to go to war with Russia without nato or the US. If the US goes without NATO I think Poland says F it I’m in too.

My guess is that civilians aren't engaging much at this stage. Weapons that take down tanks and especially aircraft would require a level of training that probably means professional soldiers are the primary combatants. That will change when things progress to urban warfare, which is probably part of why Russia is targeting so many civilian areas now - they want to scare people out of the fight.

Also less houses to clear if you blow them up. Imagine trying to go door to door in those big ass apartments buildings. Soldiers would be sitting ducks, not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Absurd if true. They were clearly well prepared but this is still stunning.

Oh sure, Poland will bend over, lube, and take on a superpower without NATO support.  I mean it's not like Poland was ever carved up by a superpower before.

I haven't had the time to really follow everything going on, I'm certainly aware of what's happening and see bits and pieces of reports each day, but I'm not 100% up on all aspects.

So, I see that the EU wants them to join 'asap'. What's the advantage there? Why is that the 'move' to make at this moment? What's to be gained for Ukraine?

To be fair, it’s not like Ukraine NEEDS an overwhelming amount of force to defend itself - doesn’t it seem like they could do fine with just some additional manpower?

It's probably more symbolic than anything right now, but it would provide a degree of economic security and make population movement easier between regions, as well as inextricably tie Western markets to Ukrainian ones, thereby necessitating greater support from the West in times of crisis.

Dumb and ridiculous that an american teachers union are backing anythung Russian before or after.

Essentially whats wrong with this country

Agreed.

BUT… interest rates are artificially low and teachers have raped and pilfered public coffers with their defined benefits to such an extent that pension managers basically have to go to the extremes of the risk curve to make good on it.

"let's find a way to blame teachers and not fund managers for this"

Man, I've never felt so jingoistic, it's kind of alarming. I really love this country, though and hope we can truly get back to leading the free world again. I don't think there's been a more righteous cause to support in my lifetime than this one. We've generally been the invader and the imperial power in our international relations while I've been alive. F dem facists, at home and abroad.

That’s the reality. Same reason these pension funds are in all sorts of high risk assets. Sorry to break it to you.

I gotta admit I find the jingo talk a little weird, both for and against.  I mean this is really about solidarity with Europe, not so much a 'Murican moment.  But I guess it has felt like a long time since 3/4 of us agree on something this important and this deeply.
